Quick question for ya. If a person stretches their sports bike 4-6 inches and ride in the rain, do you think the rear wheel will spin up water/mud/gunk on the back of their jackets with such a stretch?
@@markettradinggenius i think it's dependent on the mud guard not the length of the bike
@@OldNotDead-Club makes sense :)

Thank you very much
Watching from Canada. As an old guy that learned to ride at 60 yrs, I have been trying to learn every possible thing to be a competent and safe rider. I stumbled upon your channel a few months ago, and really enjoy your knowledge and content. Subscribed. Cheers from NB, Canada
I actually enjoy riding in the rain for many of the reason you reveal and the opportunity to practice safe riding.
Thanks for watching

I like riding on the frozen lakes in winter. The right bike and gear makes a difference. Nothing wrong with owning more than one motorcycle.
As an right leg below knee amputee, the linked braking system works a treat and with a bit of engine braking , 17000 kms later on a 22 street glide, no problems. Although there’s a few s bends up my way, and in the wet you carnt see the pot holes, slowing you down a fair bit.
Another great video offering the motorcycle community some very good advice. We should all be able to ride in all road conditions good ole mother nature throws at us....the number 1 thing for me is being able to adapt to change, and that includes mindset and attitude whilst riding. Rain doesn't have to wreck your ride, but it just a part of the overall experience. Ride safe mate!!!! 😎
HI Mate
I'm an Auld Biker from Scotland .... 4 seasons in one Day ,,,,,
As you say Keep it Smooth !!!!
Diesel, Crap , mud , and tailgating drivers don't Help !!!!
Still Here after All these Years ,,,,
Let the Rain wash the roads !
Keep Biking
Great tips! The Shoei Ex-Zero helmet looks great I have one of those myself.
Thanks - yep awesome helmet
I took my very first motorcycle safety class IN the rain. It was fantastic to get past the preconception that the motorcycle is on ice skates at the very beginning.
We used to put newspaper under our jacket. The Sydney Morning Herald worked well
Lol yep I remember doing that too for the cold
Yep for sure, I did that back in the day! 👍
On the track there aren’t patches of oil, manhole-covers, lane-paint, petrol-stations on corners, or gravel, or potholes, or frozen leaves. Tyres are waaay better now than the East German Barums that came fitted to my MZ in the eighties, but remember that the middle of the lane is where all the oil drops off of cars and trucks (and shit from sheep trailers),and either side of the middle is probably dished and full of water thanks to heavy trucks and SUVs…riding in the wet is an unavoidable dance for many of us - may the music play on.
Did my first ride in the rain yesterday, was pretty woried about sliding going round corners, glad I found this vid.
Easier than you thought?
You should be okay if you avoid painted road markings and manhole covers (can be tricky sometimes)! 😉👍
@OldNotDead-Club I was going round corners as wide as I could trying not to tilt, but had a few rainy day rides now, cautious tilting in the wet
#1 Reason not to like riding in the rain... Getting to work all soaked.
#2 Reason would be the cleaning and drying of your precious 2 wheeler 😅, but... one does what one has to do...valid & good tips!
yep washing your bike is the worst thing about it
The black tarmac repair patches are something to avoid in the wet,
Yeah they can be slippery
Your awesome! Thanks for the tips.
Thank you very much
If you’re living in Melbourne those tram tracks can be deadly.. don’t accelerate or brake when crossing them.. smooth is the definitely the key 🔑 and try and cross them as close as a cross not parallel if you can avoid it. Be confident but not cocky and most importantly relax and as you say stay warm and enjoy the ride.. 😊 I enjoy the wet and I don’t mind the bike moving around underneath me.. makes you a better rider…
Thanks
Always good advice brother and it never hurts to hear someone else's views /experiences 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Thanks mate!
I like your info, the right advice, no BS. Well done.👍
I did an advance motorcycle rider training course years ago. We were advised to put an extra 2psi pressure in your tyres when going out in the rain. This allows the tyres to warm up to the intended operating temperature, the wet conditions have a cooling effect on the tyres. Now, the cred bit. The training was conducted by police motorcyclist, those that also train police motorcyclist.
Love the leather jacket. What’s the brand?
I find it ironic that Ozzie’s (those who do) celebrate Christmas in the summer. It’s like trying to wrap my head around driving on the left. 😮
Lol best time for Christmas. The jacket is LegendaryUSA, they make awesome jackets
@@OldNotDead-Club dang it. I’ve been trying not to buy like 6 of those. All so good looking. Thanks!
Aussie only ride or drive on the left when sober. You have been warned.
Thanks
Thanks Karyn
Best video I’ve ever watched keep it up 👍
Thank you
Did a ride to king lake this morning ,wet roads with foliage really tight bends and even a couple of ducks just to make it interesting and I loved every second can’t wait to do it again even though I was freezing by the end because I haven’t got heated gear yet but I will invest in some soon
Awesome spot to ride, would be slippery this time of year
@@OldNotDead-Club wasn’t to bad, a couple spots I needed to be careful but all in all it was ok and like u said in the vid my tyres are new still and I checked the psi before I went so wasn’t to stressed about it ,I will admit it’s turned into one of my favourites
I am bad at stopping to dress for the rain. I keep putting it off until it’s too late 🤣
Safe rides 🤜🤞
Great points Aymen, though this little black duck certainly doesn't like riding in the wet! Though, I recently had to ride in the rain all the way from Southern NSW to Melbourne, via Gippsland, using many of the points you've raised. Except for the tram tracks! A good learning experience. Cheers.
Thats a long ride in the rain, with some awesome spots to see on the way
Access hole covers!
Lol slippery
@@OldNotDead-Club not when lubricated. 🤪🤪🤪
@@robertholland7558 lol
Great advice the right gear makes all the difference and awareness of the changes in road conditions and behaviours helps a lot.
I actually enjoy it but it does take the hoon out of you on the twisties though👍🏻🇦🇺
Lol yep no hooning for me in the wet
Great vid as usual mate. Good advice 👍
Thanks again
62 yo not dead and still riding my Harley nearly every day. Good tips for the wet.
i tend to not ride in heavy rain although im not a fair weather rider :) in the uk we have far too much painted surface on our roads and every few 100 m roundabouts and traffic lights etc etc , your video has helped me not be so nervous tho so ill bare in mind your tips if i get caught in it :)
If you don't ride in the rain you don't ride. Good tires in good condition is preferable. Just had my bike almost give out underneath me taking a left at a light yesterday. I had her down to the floorboards tho. Due for new rubber. You have excellent excellent advice man. Youre suave cat.
Slow is smooth... smooth is fast! I ride in the rain basically the same as i would in the dry! I think applying smooth inputs is generally essential in any condition. Bar when you're "having a bit of fun" but you should know when you can and can't ride a bit harder than usual considering the conditions ✌️
Thanks bud enjoying these. That said, you're flirting with being a hypocrite if you preach hi-viz in the wet and then pull on the black Harley costume.
Thanks where do I say you should wear high viz?
Keeping the right distance is easier in England than when I visited Melbourne. Too may tailgaters.
Also check tyre pressures before your ride always .
In my younger days I rode through just about anything. Over these last few years I've gotten caught in rain, freezing rain, fog, hail, and thunderstroms a few times. I have become a "fair weather rider" ... However, I recently moved further south - warmer weather, year round riding... But also wetter weather. The forecast has had a 30%-40% chance of rain for the past 10 days or so, and does for the next week or so. Really just means isolated rain cells moving across the area, if you happen to be under one, you get wet. I may have to amend my "fair weather" only stance and get back into accepting riding in the rain on occasion.
I respect the people who ride in rain; but if it's raining, I'm driving my truck. These tips help though as sometimes it's unavoidable. Thank you.
I'm a new rider and unexpectedly did my first ride in the rain today. My biggest concern was hitting a high spot of water. Fortunately that didn't happen. I made sure to do everything smoothly, accelerating and braking. I drove at about 52mph on a 60mph road. I'm sure that annoyed the 2 cars behind me but oh well. Once the rain let up and the road had better traction I left those 2 cars behind. All in all it wasn't bad but I still prefer not to ride in the rain. It sucked to get all my gear soak and wet.
Sarah is so pretty, I'm glad I'm in Texas!
The key to riding in conditions of reduced traction is to minimize the rate of change of acceleration, known as the ‘jerk’ force.
I don't have a bike, and neither can I ride, but I like your content.
It makes me think , mmmmm.
I will get one,but first, pay some lessons 👍
I carry a hi viz vest for foul weather/fog.
Sooo… death grip on the Willy Gs not a good thing in the wet ? 😔
Lov’n the jacket !
Thanks, great jacket, doesn't get used as much as it should
Yup!
I don't like to ride in the rain. I have everything to do it. If I am on a long road trip I will do it but I don't like getting my bike dirty like that. rain just gets all the road dirt all over.
Sudden down shifts as well, that'll lay you down real quick
I'm 80 yo and just swapped my 2020 BMW GS 1250 to a brand new GS 1300 triple Black.
I'm not so dare to run on rain condition.
Keep riding...
Yeah we have more grip than you think until you throw a greasy road into the mix
very true
All good tips and thoughts. What do y’all use on your helmet visors in the rain to help the water bead or clear?
Rain X
@@kevindowell6003 Yep, got and tried that (the plastic safe version). Don’t find it any good unfortunately
@@twodogs2076 It doesn’t make as much difference as it does on a car windshield. While riding turn you head, the change in wind flow will blow some of the water off the visor.
Do you list the music you use?
I keep it a secret lol
longest ride in pouring rain, wife and I, 2 up, 566 miles of interstate
Time to move to Queensland
YES!!!
@@OldNotDead-Club so what is stopping you?
@@robertholland7558 too many ties and commitments here at the moment
@@OldNotDead-Club that is what everyone says. But hey have fun in cold wet 4 seasons in a day Melbourne, just cold here, but clear sky and sunny
Yep, DON'T TWITCH!
No riding in winter where I live.
Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.....
true, thanks
OND , what's your cleaning protocol immediately after a wet ride ?
lol put the bike in the garage and hope the dirt falls off overnight. Seriously it depends on time its always good to straight away rinse of the most obvious road grime
My bike is the first I’ve owned with ABS but I’m still in the habit of applying the rear break first in the wet.
I’m wondering if it makes a difference.
I rather sip Coffee and smoke a Cigar lounging with cool Jazz and ride another day, not gonna rain foreva...
Exactly
or you could do both
@@OldNotDead-Club sipping coffee and smoking a cigar while riding in the rain? Somehow I got the feeling the would not work to well
@@robertholland7558 At least not for the cigar!
Lesson one, wear a clear visor, perhaps.
Another awesome video Aymen , my biggest issue with rain riding is I can’t get my visor wipers working !!
I don’t mind it at all rugged up in heated great and we weather gear just need some rubber socks with heaters and I’m set!
Lol thanks again Karyn
I don't mind but if you ride a Harley in the rain it will go very rusty. Maybe get a Honda for bad weather.
Yes plastic does not rust.
Love riding in the rain , but with a full face helmet
Same, makes it way better with a full face
Full face is not old man’s style😜
@@Ako1130 true but it is a wise mans style 😉
@@Scrote69A 😂😂👍👍
Tyres or tires that is the question 🤣
Lol true
@@OldNotDead-Club it’s 0430 hours here in Kingman Arizona and it’s 43° C
@@ricotime9264 well that's hot but it's freezing here so i will gladly take that lol
SORRY NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF ANY FUN RIDING IN RAIN
When I only had a scooter, I rode it in the rain, i know, far less HP than a motorcycle
im afraid to ride when its wet and at night....hehehe
How to ride in the rain?
Get on your bike...start it...ride.
Nothing difficult there.
plastic bags.... - what about decent Goretex ?
lol, that's what i'm wearing in the video. I said plastic bags if you get stuck in an emergency NOT to replace goretex
Is Wibour suspension overpriced? I test rode a 2022 BMW 1800B , it was not better than the stock suspenton om my 2019 C50 Suzuki plastic wonder.
I don’t think he understands a few fundamentals, e.g. public roads are race tracks, which usually, if not 100% of the time don’t have pot holes, smooth tar sections, or painted strips that are deadly when turning in at high speeds. 🤦🏽♂️
I ride in all kind off weather. So what., thats live on the road. And I have no ABS on mine 2002 heritage classic. If you never ride with it yoy don't mis it.
I think this is gonna be the last year that I ride because who's been so many people get in killed that motorcycles this year since may there's. Been about 100 of them that are already killed so friends and some not in recently the Asia's blatant b******* that people just don't look for motorcycles so this would be less should I write I loved writing but?
I'm getting the point where we get really punch you about the whole thing.
First tip, don't ride in rain
