    I own a '12 Abarth, and whatever people say about it, it's my car and I pay for it. I look super gay driving it, and dudes always pull up to see if it's a hot babe driving; sadly they are greeted by my beardy face. However! However yes, very important, the car is awesome to drive. It's a blast, and it's stupid. Owning an Abarth (or a Turbo, whatevs), provides with a lot of smiles per gallon. It's a driver's car, and it wants your full attention. It's scary, loud, and useless for anything else other than going out for a drive, and I love it.
    Thanks for the video Roads Untraveled, I'm happy that you dedicated some time to this model.

  • @Milnoc
    @Milnoc 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Technically, the differences between the 500 Sport Turbo and the Abarth are minimal. However, there's one feature of the Abarth that I really wished was ported over to all Fiat 500s, and that's the rear torsion bar. The stock bar does a decent job of reducing the Abarth's understeer. Replace it with a thicker aftermarket torsion bar, and you can kick this car into crazy corners where it'll now give you a bit of oversteer!
    Upgrading a 500 to fit any torsion bar will require replacing the rear axle assembly with the axle from the Abarth because it has the necessary mount points for the required torsion bar brackets.

  • @ArmandoVictorForno
    @ArmandoVictorForno 7 ปีที่แล้ว +37

    The 500 Abarth is one of the meanest-sounding 4 cylinder cars made. I would not buy one, but I always give a stare at the "595 competizione" on the streets

    • @アマ-p2l
      @アマ-p2l 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mean sounding? It's rice. A honda civic with a fartcan doesn't sound mean either. They disgust me because they sound like rally cars but they are only as fast as a stock miata or something.

    • @ArmandoVictorForno
      @ArmandoVictorForno 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      アマ The Abarths have a stock Akrapovic exhaust system. No one can teach them how to make exhausts and I think they did a remarkable job with this car. It cannot be compared to a fartcan!

    • @アマ-p2l
      @アマ-p2l 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually I gave it a thought and it's exactly like a fartcan on a Honda. It's a way-over-the-top exhaust on a 170hp car. If you put a ridiculous stupid exhaust on your 170hp Honda that's exactly the same thing. Maybe it's just me but I will never care and I will tailgate the fuck out of those farting rice 170hp Abarths on the autobahn.

    • @ArmandoVictorForno
      @ArmandoVictorForno 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      アマ Search Better. I don't want to be rude, but what you said makes me think you are not from Europe. Akrapovic over here is well known (actually, it's one of the most famous) for making motorcycle exhausts and has joined Christian Koenigsegg to make the new Regera's system. It's not just a bunch o' losers that rice out german cars.
      The work they did on the Abarth is remarkable. I know myself it sounds very loud, but the sound it makes is unique. A keen ear will recognize it's not a random car with a drilled manifold and will tell you it's an Abarth

    • @アマ-p2l
      @アマ-p2l 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They do sound unique. Maybe it's a matter of taste or I'm just a hater.

    This is the second time I have heard you talk about tire width and traction. Linear traction is a function of the weight of the car pushing down on the tire the fight will push a 205 into the ground more than 225 section tire. Width helps for lateral grip in the dry. As car enthusiasts We need to make sure what we say is correct.

    I don't know how this dude is gonna make 400 HP with that engine. I have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm not a pro, but he's pushing 24-29 psi on a stock block, stock everything. Don't get me wrong, props to this guy for doing what he's doing but I don't think there is any, if not very little, aftermarket performance parts for the engine he has in it. I mean he could custom sleeve the block but then you are running stock rods, pistons, valves, crank... If this dude does manage to push out 400 HP from that engine, something is gonna have to give at some point.
    I don't know if its been done but swapping a Honda k, b or and h22 would probably be the best bet if he wants to make 400 HP. All of those engines can easily make that much HP and they all have performance parts.
    If he's gonna keep that engine, he's probably gonna have to run a lot of custom made parts. = expensive af! Might just be better to swap the engine out.

      Why would you swap the best sound 4 cylinder engine on the market and put a Honda in , you would join thousands of other ricers , what is the fun in that ? as far as how is he going to get 400 HP out of of that engine , simple , make it bigger ! Some German tuners are getting 330- to 380 already with just a slight over boring keeping sane stroke and seeing 8000 to 8500 RPM , crazy stuff , but you’re right it’s not cheap .

    Really interesting build, but being a practical man, I'm not sure why you would buy one of these when you could get a Fiesta ST or a Polo GTI?

    Nice car! would you explain why the car rotates under braking?

    • @akrokdesign

      pretty sure it's due to the short wheel base.

    Love these little hot hatches; people may reckon any hatchbacks should be driven by homosexuals or women; I daily drive a Clio 3 RS, I've also got a relative with a Porsche Cayman. I can tell you right now that the clio is a lot more fun.... Porsche may have that beautiful styling, the prestige, and the noise, but the clio got that skrrrt, the sketchiness and all the drone u need to feel like you can teleport around corners.

      A Clio RS is one of the few hatchbacks I would never consider gay. Cayman doesn't have the Fiat500 image but it has a "didn't have enough money for a 911/ women driver" image, but they are true drivers cars. In many cases the image is completely wrong, for example a miata is a sick cheap lightweight RWD car and it takes something like a Lotus to improve on that but any Lotus is expensive as hell. However Fiat 500s just make me angry. It's not just the looks, it's the fact that the Abarth version is ricey as hell and all the priviledged kids drive one around here. Mostly girls and students, that's right fags and women. I would say that being focused on driving is straight, so in my opinion all the Rolls Royce owners are gay (especially Salomondrin). The best thing to do is doing whatever you want as long as it's morally responsible and not giving a fuck about anyones opinion.

      That depends on were you live. I am from Texas, and every guy drives a truck there. But I just moved to California, and hot hatches are very popular amongst the men, here.

    e85 runs cooler, that's why it's chosen for higher horsepower applications. Not because it gets a "better" tune.

    I tried getting this done to mine and no mechanics would touch it. They just said by an abarth. I told them I wanted to make mine with more horsepower and they told me ok by an abarth engine and we’ll swap it. Pissed me off.
