  • In the very early eighties the smallest Japanese factory won the AMA World Superbike title. Kawasaki and Steady Eddie Lawson was the pilot. Lawson was a multiple Championship winner 250cc, 500cc and Superbike. He is one of the all time greats.
'He is Eddie' is from the Album 'Speed Thrills' by ICHINCHILLA

I really miss those early days of Big Superbikes and those great riders 1977-1982, even the early 750s to the first VFs & GSXRs 1983-1988 these were great days !! and riders > Cooley,Spencer,Aldana,Lawson,Baldwin,Pietri,Rainey,Merkel,Schwantz,Shobert,Polen,Filice it was good stuff !!! Now its computers,electronics- launch control, traction control, elec shifting, perfect chassis, perfect tires and dragging Elbows !!!! Gezz I'm getting old !!!! Lol But you really had to know how to "Ride & Tune" a bike back then and also have some Balls !!! Lol

Man o man you aren’t kidding and I couldn’t agree more ,those were the days ,I couldn’t believe my eyes watching at Loudon (Laconia New Hampshire) the first time. These guys went past the pit straight away ,standing it straight up looking under their arm to see at no less than 100 mph!!! The bikes were friggin’ animals back then, tons of snot and handled pretty much like shit!!!! 😲😲😲👍👍👍👍

Eddie is a gentleman and still a human rocket. Badass times, those golden days of Superbikes. I'll never forget Freddie, Eddie, Roberto, Wester, Wayne, Mike (Spencer) Richard, Jon, Thad, Dale, Johnny B', David Aldana, Steve Wise, and everyone.

    What a great tribute piece!
It was my good fortune to see Eddie Lawson racing that #21 Kawasaki superbike four times, and he won every time: Laguna Seca and Seattle Int'l, 1981; Riverside and Laguna Seca, 1982. What great memories!

Quanta bellezza in queste immagini.

This was truly the Golden Era of motorcycle racing... A time when real men rode superbikes which tied themselves in knots because of the enormous power being put through bendy frames, and in Europe, men who rode in the face of death on razor-blade like two-strokes.
Only the best could triumph, men such as Eddie Lawson, Freddie Spencer, Barry Sheene, and Kenny Roberts.
Today's riders are but gay poseurs in comparison.
We are blessed to have lived during the 70's and early 80's.

Only word to describe the man, his style....the song too, is... Cool ;)
Unbelievable skills to muscle those bikes, truly exceptional talents.
I also love my Kwaks, I have a mint classic 1990 ZXR 750 H2. Not quite an old Z but I love her....

Indeed....Spencer....one of the brightest stras ever to shine.......albeit for a shorter time.....a Shooting Star.......well, after all Fast was his nickname.........his results never the less, spoke for him, regardless of opinions which are based on subjectives. He wanted to dominate the scene, and dominate he did, the cost? He got burned out and developed a wrist injury......remember that he raced full time in the World Championships in 250cc and 500cc...

Only in 1985 did Freddie race both the 250 and 500, winning both titles. An exceptional achievement.

This song is way cool....its tempo, rhythm and cadence.....its subject and the wonderfull memories of my youth and passion it brings back....just awesome!
Late 70's early 80's AMA Superbike Production series, Eddie Lawson and his Moriwaki Kawasaki, Freddie Spencer in his Honda RCS and Wes Cooley in his Yoshimura Suzuki.
This song is from a British (so I believe) band called ICHINCHILLA, titled "HE IS EDDIE" dedicated to Eddie Lawson, and from the Album "Speed Thrills and other Follies"

This song is way cool.......at least to me......and it is from a soon to be released album "Speed Thrills and Other Follies" by a British band called ICHINCHILLA, and the song itself is titled "HE IS EDDIE" as in he is Eddie Lawson.
Thank you ICHINCHILLA for this beautiful song and the beautiful memories you bring along with.
For those who like me, folloed the AMA Superbike Production series in the late 70's early 80's, with those street based racers with upright handlebars....just awesome

And like all of our firs loves, innocent and fresh, good harted and void of preconceptions.....we all remember or memories with the tainted colors of a first love. What was, it'll never be again....and that goes for mankind. Our psyche is in love with what defined us into the human beeings we are today, and our origins are sacred and forever beautiful (or so we are programmed into seeing them) Anyway....my memory always holds a special place for namessuch as: Lawson, Spencer, Cooley, Baldwin...

Different times, different men, different challenges and demands. Superbike at its infancy, full of inventiveness, all the bikes where different, even had a personality, genius over technology. Genius reflects the ideas of the engineer/designer, technology is the fruit of cold mathematical calculations. Is like comparing art to linearity......no comparison, though I understand that technology betters results, no arguments there. Back then, bikes resembled BIKES.....can we still say the same?

  • @francotripepi
    @francotripepi 12 ปีที่แล้ว

As everything at its infancy, they all started with a blank sheet of paper, that is why they where all different from each other, and resembled what we rode every day. You see, since there was no past yet, rules where drawn so that you took a production bike and made it a race redy one. Today, after many championships and many sales based on results, the street bikes are designed thinking (some say reflecting....I disagree) at the racers.

    Yeah, this old track again…
    I think I’m going ‘round the bend…
‘Cause I am built to last
Yes I’m built to be fast
And as I slip into my leathers
There is a race to be won
    My life is in danger
    I am 21
‘Cause others are green with envy
    ‘Cause I am pure Moriwaki
    Yes I’m m AMA
I ride for your pleasure today
He is Eddieeeee……he is Eddie, yeah, and to fast Freddie
So quick on the job (twice)

And how to forget, that Kawasaky was not Kawasaky as much as it was a Moriwaki, Suzuki was itself Pop Yoshimura....Honda was Erv Kanemoto and HRC....men, personalities, tuners, not faceless corporations.....do you guys remember? You where a fan of the Tuner as much as of a Rider......the bikes, where almost inconsequential......

True DunlopDaytona, Today's computer controlled, Laptop tuned bikes, albeit fast, lack any visceral appeal to those that saw the old days. Sure they're fast, but the "nanny-tronics" negate alot of the skill necc to pilot and survive the speed and performance of modern bikes.
Compare "wheelie control" and "traction control" to Eddie, Freddie, Roberto and Wes lofting front wheels and sliding Goodyear slicks around and you'll see why we long for the "Golden Era".
