    Does anyone have experience running their bearings dry? How did they perform, and did you have any issues with them down the road?

    zippo lighter fluid also works if you are lazy- mostly a solvent, but can work very well in thinning a thicker lube if you applied too much.

    my rule of thumb is i would never use a yoyo lube i wudent use in the bedroom, ie only water based. my fav is the yoyotricks thin stuff, but i cant find it anymore. you need tho, bearings can Rust. :)

      The yoyotricks stuff is good, but the bottle is so damn bad and leaks everywhere!

    That's interesting to hear you say to only use one small drop of dark matter lube to avoid seizing, even though the bottle says to use like three drops. I've heard reports of dark matter seizing up bearings, but I'm not sure if that's because people are using too much of it. Have you heard about this issue with dark matter, and what are your thoughts on it?

      Its either too much or they let it dry out.

      @@throwsnbrews9516 I'm not sure if it's really a case of the dark matter causing this. Mine came dried out before I even opened it, so I got creative, creased a laminated business card and funneled it into the bearing, and my first try I accidentally dumped a ton of dry lube into the bearing, and decided to just pop right in and play it, as it was kind of an experiment anyway.
      So it played a little responsive and sounded almost a little gritty the first couple throws, then it freed up after 10-15 mins and played fine. I've done this on 4 separate bearings after a 100% acetone bath and haven't experienced any problems so far.
      It makes me wonder if some people either just lubed an already dirty bearing, didn't quite clean thoroughly enough or just random foreign debris was the cause. because I really put a lot by mistake that first go, like A LOT, so it makes me think you'd have to almost be intentionally trying to kill a bearing with this lube to get it to fail.

    I just got my bottle of darkmatter lube and when i took off the wrapper, it was halfway empty
    Is that normal or can i just refill it with pure alcohol?
    Edit: bottle is brand new ( i got it today)

    20 or 30 weight synthetic motor oil should be fine, it's inexpensive and relatively low toxicity (just not used motor oil).
    Sometimes I use a dry lube (like for locks or bike chains). It's just something you have to experiment with.

    How do u open dark matter lube bc i can’t 😭

  • @peterhunter1990
    @peterhunter1990 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    How long should it take to break in the mfd lube? It’s the only one that I have but no matter how small of an amount I put on it makes it responsive.

    • @throwsnbrews9516

      Gotta clean it first with acetone.
      15ish min of hard throws and gyro flops.

      I use mineral spirits to clean the bearing but have the same result😥

    Should you lube just bought yoyos?

    • @letmeshowumypkmn
      @letmeshowumypkmn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      New yoyos are lubed up with the appropriate lube type. They’re ready to go right out the box. The only time you’d need to lube up a new one is if you get incredibly unlucky and somehow get a yoyo that the manufacturer forgot to quality check or you get a cheap no-brand one with no quality control

    i find yo yo factory the best, i put it in clear paint thinner, than the smallest amount of yyf thin lube.,

  • @jo3no
    @jo3no 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Not a fan of dark matter lube. Essentially putting foreign particles into your bearing which you will inevitably need to clean out later. I'm with regular thin lube 100%

    • @Magnulus76
      @Magnulus76 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dry lubes like graphite are made of fine particles, like nanotechnology, that fill the asperities (pits) in the metal. So it should not clog up the bearing unless you use too much.
      Any kind of thick oil can attract dust and grit, whereas a dry lube will not do this as much, and is a better choice if a dirty, dusty, or lint-filled environment is a possibility.

    Isn't it OK to use wd40 bike chain lube on the unresponsive bearings?

  • @AngryHatter
    @AngryHatter 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    WD 40 Water displacement is not a lubricant.
