Commissioned by The Wartburg Choir, Dr. Lee Nelson, conductor, the introduction is sung unaccompanied and the piano comes in for the first statement of the melody in the tenor/bass parts. Spoken-word soloists declaim in an almost rap-like fashion against the choir singing neutral syllables. A fun, fast, swinging piece that your singers will love. Duration: 3:45

I’m singing this for my high school choir. The parts are so beautiful, and we all have fun jamming to this song after class.

Love Love Love this! Make the music of our past SO relevant to our current state. I also appreciate the articulation and dynamic markings so that the performers aren't guessing! Very well written. Ending with "Thy will be done" OH! THAT WAS IT!!!! What a final stamp!!!! Powerful piece. Great for high school and college choirs. Churches should definitely incorporate the piece!

First time in choir I have no interest in singing.** Moses Hogan turns in grave* yuck.

Our chorus scrapped this song due to the horrendous reincarnation of an actual soulful song. This remake really dramatizes the history of this song, and turns it into an activism speech rather than a peaceful and hopeful speech. The song also has very bad composure and some of the parts sound very filler. And the ending of the song, while many will be blown away, it seems to be more about the dramatic effect rather than the message. Very disappointed with this piece.

I despise the “rap” parts, and I have to sing this for festival 💀
Sure some parts sound pretty good, but this song is absolutely preposterous.

Despite with what you think, the parts of this that cater to activism are necessary. Music is not for those who want to remain ignorant to the problems of today. You may not like it and thats your opinion but songs like this are necessary

Our director decided it wasn't enough to sing it last year and we're doing it again this year, guess who has a speaking part

@@LFTDarkness this song doesn’t actually provide anything helpful, though. It removed black creators from the creative process (red flag) and simply says “we’re done with all the hate in the world” without providing substantive action steps. That is not activism. It’s more harmful in cultivating complicity by celebrating our largely shared understanding that war and racism are bad-how revolutionary.
