- A how to video of how i made my diy DOF Adapter for smartphone
Parts List:
1. Canon Macro Tube (manual type)
2. 58-60mm Step up Ring
3. 52-58mm Step up Ring
4. 37-52mm Step up Ring
5. 58mm +10 Macro Filter
6. 37mm +10 Macro Filter
6. Canon 5D Mark III Focusing Screen
* the 58-60mm ring can be replace with 58-62mm, but you need to glue the ring to the tube. Less cost, 58-60mm is not cheap and hard to find.
in the video i use 1 extra 58mm filter ring between 58-60mm ring to adjust the focus of my 58mm macro filter.
You need something to make a holder for focusing screen, i use Styrene Sheet. You can use anything as long it can hold the filter and attach it to the tube.
The focusing screen has to be placed at 44mm from the end of the tube (to SLR lens), failed to do so will result lost in focus.

I update the desc to include an option to use 58-62 ring instead of 58-60. Because its hard to find and expensive :)

Interesting setup 👍. Does using a smaller 37mm macro in the step down have any added advantage? I was wondering why not keep all the elements at 58mm and finally use only step down rings to go till 17mm
You can keep averything 58mm, the stepdown is only for mounting to the smaller 37mm ring found in almost all phone rig in the market.
Whether the default result of the camera is upside down or not, the problem is to use an additional adapter so you usually have to use a third party application like an open camera, etc ..

How do you attach the focusing screen to the styrene sheet and how to attach the styrene sheet to the ring? In the video you have used an extra 58 mm ring. What is the range 58-60 or 58-62? Thanks in advance
Extra ring for clear focus, its depend on phone, you dont need extra or need extra space to get a better focus.
Styrene sheet i just glue it together to make a layer for holding the screen
@@iamfyrus The screen is rectangular and the Styrene sheet cutout is circular, so how do you cut out a rectangular slot in the middle of the circular styrene sheet?

You can get an step down adapter that goes from 37mm to 17mm

How do you mount it to the phone?
I use beastgrip-alike rig and a diy phone case glued with 37mm lens clip (need to glue it because the clip cant handle the heavy lens+tube)
What does the dof adapter do and what’s stopping you from just connecting the phone to the lens straight up

I've seen a video where an Indian guy just holding a 50mm telephoto lens directly to his phone camera and it turn the lens only work as a macro lens. so this dof make lens work on smartphone as they should be.

@@ChrisOh ya true, even i only find 1 seller sell it online but not as cheap as others ring, i guess if i want to make new tube, i just use a smaller ring like 58 then glue it to the back ring of the tube, the back tube ring is about 54-56mm, i guess ya better use that way, 60mm ring is not cheap and hard to find

Vignette? NO...as long as you use focusing screen and the correct distance between all filter there is no vignette

Helo sir how to make focusing screen holder i don't have 3d printer
im not using any 3D printer too, just use anything you can make it DIY. I use 1mm styrene sheet, stack it to get a focus distance from the lens. For canon place focusing screen 44mm from the tube end (lens)

Maap nanya om, itu step up musti 3 ukuran itu, ato bisa kurang, khan ada yg 52-60, ato 37-58, jadi berkurang 1 step, trima kasih sebelumnya
Itu buat jarak antara lens hujung dengan lens 58 itu mas (plano-convex) jika terlalu hampir dikuatiri tidak bisa focus mas, namun itu bisa di try and error.
Juga bergantung lens hujung, saya kadang-kadang tukar lens macro antara 10x atau 15x jadi focusnya juga bisa rubah-rubah didekatkan atau dijauhkan

Cari yg paling murah, dan kalau nak beli step up tu baik beli extra dan beli beberapa uv filter size 58, filter 58 ni nak guna ring dia je utk dapatkan jarak focus (tambah panjang), kalau di indo mereka guna pvc pipe je utk jarak focus
Kos keseluruhan bergantung dpt barang tu murah atau mahal, yg dlm video ni kos sekitar rm350+, yg mahal kat lens tu dan yg susah cari adalah filter 10+ size 58 tu
