I say no, because even though gambling is widely accepted now, the aspect of betting on one’s own team (back then or now) goes against the spirit of the game, as it is betraying one’s team and the fans. It demonstrates a complete lack of respect for the brotherhood and for the integrity of sportsmanship. Even if betting on team to win, by breaking the code of the game it is disrespectful to team and fans. Plus…14 year old girl…dude is icky 🤣😂 if you dont want to accept the rules of a job and the responsibilities given to you, as well as consequences, then don’t accept the paycheck
Definitely great points you make here! If he did the same thing today, it seems like his punishment would be handled differently since gambling is now much more mainstream. Look at the NFL wide receiver Calvin Ridley, who bet on his own team the Falcons. He was suspended for it, but is still allowed to play today in the NFL. Pretty sure if he has the talent to become a hall of famer one day the NFL would likely vote him in because gambling doesn't have the same level of negative stigma it had back when Pete Rose did it. If players today can be forgiven and allowed back into the game for gambling on their own teams, why not do the same with the hit King Pete Rose after all of these years???
