  • This video is a stock Rmax XTR and my Xp General overviews and just checking out the new Rmax. Shane is new to the UTV market and we wanted to do some comparisons. We plan to do more riding and making more videos of these rigs. My General has a lot of extra weight and 32 inch tires vs the 30 inch tires. Rmax is 108 hp and stock General is 100. Mine has roughly 110 hp as it sits. My rear bumper weighs 100 pounds along with the glass windshields front and rear, heater, upper doors, extra guarding and larger tires. The Rmax has some extra rock lights, light bar and plastic windows. This was a fun comparison and I am looking forward to more. Comment anything in specific you would like to see.

We are going with the Yamaha simply because of no need to change belts or clutch that seems to be an issue on the Polaris forums. Either way, both are a good choice! To each their own!

I think both machines are very nice, I'm looking at selling my Grizzly and getting a 4 seater sxs (growing family) the rmax is my choice right now, I like how the 4 seater is only about 4" longer than the 2 seater, where the General is much longer, with my riding style and the terrain where I am, I don't want to give up that clearance and get hung up. Excellent video. These two machines are very very similar and I test drove both. This is only my opinion and what I found out. YAMAHA Rmax (Likes) Power, 8 more HP, 10-year belt warranty, engine redline only 8500 RPM, easier to shift, pre-cut toggle switch spots, I Rank Yamaha one notch better for dependability, (Dislikes) No turf mode, Verry little center council room, I could not fit my cellphone and wallet in it, No outside door handle, if you put any type of window in it how do you open it? can't remove doors without losing your speakers, for farm use picking rock, again that won't pertain to anyone else, When you pull the ebrake but not hard enough and step on the gas it will still drive and wear out your ebrake. This happens to me when I let my Dad drive my things. Less radio reception, 5 oil plugs to change oil 20 min and 4 Qt. Not a fan of the shoulder pad. POLARIS GENERAL (Likes) Easy door removal for 2 weeks out of the year for rock picking and stereo still works, 5 min oil change 2.5 Qt, Very good stereo reception, 52oz bubba keg will fit inside the center council with the cover closed, Turf mode differential will not tear up your lawn, Shoulder pad built into the door, (Dislikes) Not as smooth to shift, engine redline 9400 RPM These engines seem to over-rev a lot when not driving hard, Less dependable, My opinion only my Last Polaris Ranger lasted me 9 years and the only problem I ever had was a torn cv boot but I also Raced Motocross for Many years with Yamaha and they were bulletproof 4 strokes, ++++ I bought the General 4 days ago it checked my boxes better and I love it. Both machines are awesome. it was a tuff decision, The dealer is 10 miles from my house compared to 40 and I know the guys that work there.

      I'm considering buying a sxs for rock picking too. I suppose it's a lot easier than driving around in a pickup. Plus I don't like driving a pickup over the ground after seeding. I suppose a sxs wouldn't be so bad. Do you seem to find other good uses on the farm for a sxs?

    nice comparison. we own a 2017 Yamaha Wolverine and looked at buying the General but in the end our local Polaris dealer sucks to do business with. in the end they're both (the polaris and the yamaha) sport utility and not true full sport machines and they can to that really well, but as far as jumping and rock crawling, ya not so much- but they aren't designed for that. on a Yamaha there is no rear differential so a turf mode would be my only want, as turning sharp does tear up the grass/gravel in the driveway. i would like to see a comparison of decelerating from top speed in both w/in car cameras without using the brake, the Yamaha has a one way clutch in the main clutch that gives you engine braking whereas Polaris does not (which is supposed to be one of the factors why Polaris goes through belts), do you get a whole lotta neutral or what does act like on decel?
    for what it's worth: we also own a KRX1000 and driving in a full sport machine vs. a sport utility machine is a night and day difference. but they both have specific strong points. they both do good on the backwoods roads, but to go hunting or work on the ranch, i use the Wolverine. the suspension is too soft in the KRX for ranch work, but then again i can full send it off a jump and it'll land smooth, whereas a sport-utility machine such as the Wolverine or the General will usually front endo and bottom out such as seen here. each one has a strong point for a reason.

      I might have been cause the rmaxx driver wad letting off the gas too soon causing the rear to catapult off the jump. Didnt get to see the polaris jumping . Was hoping to get a quick glance just to compare. Very nice machines though guys.

    • @WhatsMyGame

      Alot of that nose heavy jumping can be resolved via suspension preload changes and throttle input. I have read the Rmax balances front to rear pretty well actually.

    did I miss something?? That was a great Yamaha review but very little about the Polaris?? No video of the Polaris going over the jumps, no onboard video of the Polaris going down trails etc...??
    I am going back and forth between these two models and based on my experience with both brands I am leaning towards the Polaris but I want to know how they go.
    I drove a Teryx 800 and the motor was screaming at 25 mph, you couldnt hear a thing if you had someone next to you, the motor vibration coming up through the floor was shocking at 25mph, I cant imagine 40 or 50

    I have a ranger xp900 and am looking to get something a little sportier. I'm looking at both of these machines but am leaning towards the xp general simply because of the lock and ride cab system. My ranger seals up pretty tight but I'm not sure if the rmax would with the round bars on the roll cage. Have you seen one that is enclosed?

    • @kenp4464

      @@jhmotorsports7692 Ya there isn't anything cheap for these things. I was just wondering how tight they sealed up. The enclosures I've seen on the internet look like they have a lot of gaps but I have not seen one in person yet.

    • @milkman69x

      Travis Graff The hard cab enclosure for the X4 has already been discontinued. That says something to me. I think you are leaning the right way.

    • @MassiveOverkill
      @MassiveOverkill 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Yamaha hard cab system has plastic fascia pieces that install to the roll cage and then you have automotive-style weather stripping. It seals up very nicely. @keith mcguigan, the OLD X4 hard cab is discontinued because the NEW X2/X4 now share the same roll cage as the RMAX2/RMAX4 so those hard cabs will be used on the 2021+ models. Anyone who has an older X2/X4 who hasn't bought a hard cab enclosure by now probably won't buy one in the future.

    I'm a Yamaha fan and have been wanting both Yamaha and Honda to catch up in this market. That said I think the Yamaha Rmax is ugly (just my personal preference) and still has a way to go until they overtake the general. Did Yamaha hire a dune buggy builder from the 70's for the design?

  • @CorpseCallosum
    @CorpseCallosum 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Them round roll cage bars on the RMAX make it hard to seal up the cab.
