It has some really cool features, although i think that the purpose/use case of the product should be more clear, so maybe it could just be a power bank with fast charging and wireless decharging. Or just a cable splitter, but the design is definetly very cool, although there is also a fine line to walk because the apple powerbank is similar.
Wireless Charging can be seriously challenging to engineer. Apple and BMW have struggled here as well. Remember AirPower? Kudos to Carl and the team for giving it a go.
That analogy with driving in the car with the wrong GPS location and the sunk cost fallacy was really good. Carl is so grounded. I hope to get a NOTHING product someday.
I think that analogy sucked. The more fitting analogy with the same scenario in mind would be : You want to go to your destination, you realize you have gone the wrong way. Would you go home or go to your destination trying to find the correct way? His decision was right but the analogy was still wrong.
this is why nothing is one of my favorite brands rn, the transparency in both your videos and products make them so unique. never have I felt more included in a conversation we don't get to hear or even see often
I have to say, you are right about admitting to failure and learning from your mistakes, on the other hand I would actually like to see that product out in the market. I do think people are in need of chargers all the time. Yeah it was hard at first to make it but you guys are on your second phone and second pair of headphones, oh and to mention your second company CMF with those amazing products as well. I think you guys can revist this and think deeply about it. Nothing team please keep up the amazing innovative work you guys do. Love the products.
Hey guys, During the times the Phone 2 came out, my feed was bombarded with it, but... I thought nothing of 'Nothing'. My phone usage history was all about flipping through iPhones and Samsungs and iPhones and Samsungs, so.... venturing into anything else but those, such as, 'Nothing' seemed like... well, nothing much. But man, was I wrong! The more I dove deep into the 'Nothing' universe, the more I felt like I was truly discovering... EVERYTHING. Got my hands on the Phone 2 and it felt like I had unlocked a secret realm. I love every aspects of it, no matter what others say- the quality, the experience, the looks, the 'everything'. Now, it's been a month, or even more(?) but every day feels like just the first day - as if I'm unwrapping a gift from the universe, as if I'm a little boy with a new car toy, as if I'm finally 'something' in this world of nothingness. So, here's to 'Nothing' - I've got nothing but love for you. Looking forward to saving up just enough, for more of Nothing products.📱 xoxo
Love how you guys aren't just making transparent products but also being transparent about your design thinking and showing us the processes behind such unique finished products.
Wow. Carl Pei is such a chill and cool CEO. That power bank looks awesome too. We would love to see it come to fruition and get released for public consumption in the future.
I appreciate how much he values the quality of his products. I love my Phone 2 the camera leaves a lot to be desired, but it's a solid phone. I just hope they keep these standards as they grow into a bigger company.
Love the idea and looks of this charger, and im glad you wanted it to be perfect thus you didn't released it. It shows that the company cares about the consuments and don't want to make non-durable products. I've never seen this kind of videos in any other tech company, i think they are making some kind of bond with your clients and make them aware what is going on behind the scenes. Big thumb up from me.
I would totally buy a new version of this. I don't have the money to buy a phone or headphones but I could probably afford this and I really do wanna support you guys. Also, Charging with an AC power cord is genius. That's something I've never seen before but would love to have.
Thanks for sharing these insides. The issue with durability and transparent glue also affects my ear(1). After a good year, the housings have fallen apart from both sides. Still working, but broken. Would be interesting if this was a known problem at the time for all products…?
Yes, The same happened for both of my ear buds (ear 1). Didn't get cover for this on warranty as they said it is physical damage. Later I glued it with superGlue. I used a thin nail to apply glue on both ends. Luckily it didn't burn any internals and is working well.
silicone dots in a Nothing typeface style along the edges of that Power (1) case should get you past most if not all drop tests, 'cause vertices and edges is where all things fall onto. If I were on the R&D/Product Design team, I'd totally try to work with this idea and save the beautiful Power (1) design. Also the only tech brand I'm subbed to on TH-cam. I might be interested in various brands and their releases, but I don't give 2 shits about their brand channels, for all they do is advertise. You, guys, are doing an important job of showing behind the scenes, discussing important topics, inspiring through your own successes and (what's more important) failures, bridging the gap between Nothing the brand and its users by taking this appealing down-to-earth approach. Creativity+Honesty is the key. Thank you.
I think the power (1) is a great idea that should be revisited in a year or two with a little less focus on the availability of simultaneous charging outputs, and more on the side of cooling. It really looks like it's nearly at that 90% mark, the last 10% looking like tech around power delivery efficiency needing to catch up to the vision. I'm sure there's a lot of other technical issues let alone the logic, but maybe modularizing it might be a good idea so that end users can decide what and how many options they have, it would definitely mean making the form factor line up a bit more with how things are looking on the market right now in terms of power banks, but in turn it might make it easier to develop a cooling solution that wouldn't break the design language.
It's just like Apple's AirPower, but has an even cooler design and more features. Just like AirPower, it failed even before it was released. Nice insight thou!
Man I would buy this is a absolute heartbeat, I have to admit I have too much invested in the apple ecosystem so I sadly can't move away from the apple ecosystem, but I have always followed your guys work for reference and inspiration, you guys are killing it. This is a definately product I am willing to change just to support you guys! Looks phenomenal!
Maybe a alternate design language/child design language for all the of utility items (Power (1), charger, cables) from nothing would allow for flexibility for material choices for durability.
Wow, that's really something. I'm a uni. student rn and after watching this I really feels that staring a company and do things I want to do is not that far from normal ppl like us, even though I understand that you actually need experience before doing that just like Carl came from one plus. This video actually taught me a lesson on which direction I should move on. There's an old saying that you can learn more from a failure than a story of success cz people have different way of success but it's likely to make the same mistakes. Thanks a lot and looking for more content like this.
It looks like a charging hub combined with a power bank. Having it on the desk plugged in as a hub to charge all your devices. Unplug it and you have a portable power bank. Understandable that it's not perfect to be released, having thermal and durability issues, but definitely a great product.
I don't mind if it cracks when dropped as I will not carry it with me.. For the thermals issue I also wouldn't mind of an active fan as well! That's a great and beautiful product I would gladly buy to have on my desk!
This is one of the best Co./Tech Channels out there. Love the team, the vision of Carl and how everyone is just transparent about the journey… hey! I would probably buy it as a decor/prompt… Use it as a power bank, too, lol.
I would like a small flagship nothing phone come out. I understand there is a lot of people prefer large screen, but as a small phone user, I just find it hard to find a phone that aesthetically match my taste and small form factor. Hopefully nothing could take that part of the market that no one does
"Drop us a sub my job depends on it" was really funny. I think you're doing a wonderful job bringing these creative ideas with Carl. The videos and concepts are really thoughtful and it's visible that Carl enjoys them too. Also, subscribed!
I feel what he means about following goals and giving up. I remember the very experience that thought me that and I remember it just being a mind expanding moment that left to an idea that surpassed words
Idk why you didn't actualy release it. I would genuinely buy that power bank, its legit the coolest thing. I have a power bank alredy and I use it everyday, so having one that also looks this good would be absolutely awesome
I can't get over the fact on how Perfect and precious the Ear 2 looks... It looks more like jewellery and sci-fy technology mixed, the precision cuttings and there is NO visible flaw, and no compromise has been done to the design, It's like the Steve Job's dad's Mindset of not attaching a Ply wood on the back of an expensive furniture made out of premium wood(I read about this from a Book named "Steve Jobs, The Man Who Thought Different"
Carl is a very clever businessman, He knows how to position a brand, he knows very well how to market a product, and most importantly how to connect to consumers emotionally, following Apple very well, if everything goes well He'll make Nothing very Big if Nothing is registered in Indian stock exchange I'll definitely shares.

With some tweaking it can come back, like adding fans (or just 1), to fix the overheating issues and adding rubber on the corners for fall protection, and that would fix the 2 main problems
please reconsider pruducing the power one, Im a big fun of Carl's Nothing products so I would like to see him diversify and conquer the tech industry. Impressed by the company designs and size of the power 1
I don't know anything about this product but the problems you mentioned can be fixed using a Gallium nitrate power circuit in my knowledge. GaN power circuits offer several advantages over traditional silicon-based counterparts. They are known for their higher efficiency, faster switching speeds, smaller size and weight, increased power density, wide bandgap properties for high-temperature and high-voltage operation, reduced heat sink requirements, improved RF performance, and enhanced reliability. This is just my suggestion It might be worth giving a shot. CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG
That makes a whole lot of sense. Profit margin for a power bank isn't really worth investing. Thermal and durability problem are merely what triggers the rethinking.
I have a idea implement RLCD display on your smartphone. In this way anyone would probably never need any type of power bank I have a huawei y 7 prime 2019 and it's brightness is not enough to me for outdoor work, and I think smartphone companies should implement RLCD display on cheaper devices because they don't implement high brightness display on these cheaper devices. High brightness display can only be found on expensive devices
Oh wow! Ive really wanted a product like this but was unable to find one that could wireless charge, fast charge via a wall plug and was a portable powerbank. This video was pretty insiteful on the difficult of designing this product but please still make it!
i like the design of power(1) especially because right now almost all the power banks have similar boring designs: plastic surface with dark color. So if power(2) can be just a power bank with the Nothing transparent design I would definitely buy it.
Kinda brave sharing this... What I see here is a parable about the dangers and drawbacks of an aesthetics first design philosophy - something which continues to define the Nothing brand.
Yes that is the coolest looking charger I have ever seen. I would buy this immediately. You guys should sell the first version as the Power (1) Paperweight!
Gotta give props to nothing for actually admitting they failed at something. Than just sweeping it under the rug and then say it wasn’t the time and they were focusing on other things
take the powerbank feature off, and it would still be worth every penny, one because of the design language, and second because i would trust nothing team with flawless functionality. the existing powerbricks look boring af, and if i have been waiting forever for a beautiful power brick that i can carry and keep everything else off the bay. love this video, makes the whole process of product development feel more real, more human.
Admit failure and express that to public is something, that make difference. You are special company in the world. Big up for this
But at the end it's nothing
bro keep your mouth sweet and laughable 😮
I don't hear him saying anything bad about the Nothing Phone 2, and it has a ton of glaring issues.
Dude it's called marketing.
Opposite to A's type c situation. A's products are the best but i don own any due to their arrogance n common-ness.
you guys should remake the power (1) and fix all the issues with it and call it the power (1.5), that'd be really cool
It has some really cool features, although i think that the purpose/use case of the product should be more clear, so maybe it could just be a power bank with fast charging and wireless decharging. Or just a cable splitter, but the design is definetly very cool, although there is also a fine line to walk because the apple powerbank is similar.
100% agree
Realistically revisiting a scrapped project would seem more expensive than it was back then, but I too share the same sentiment
Lame name u give just add .5 lol
Don't remake just use strong cover from dropping damag

For a moment I thought that was a foldable nothing phone, but still the power bank idea looks great should give a thought in coming years.

I have a huawei y 7 prime 2019 and it's brightness is not enough to me for outdoor work, and I think smartphone companies should implement RLCD display on cheaper devices because they don't implement high brightness display on these cheaper devices. High brightness display can only be found on expensive devices
please bring this back!!!
The future of young CEOs is actually going to change everything. Am from Africa and i cannot afford these devices but i love these videos.
Pleasee release the improved product, it would be so useful and wouldhave that great "nothing" look to it :)
When it gets sorted out, I hope you return to this in a better form. This is honestly interesting.
I'm happy to be a part of Nothing Community 😊
Carl procrastinating then blanking out on a presentation is so relatable on so many levels...
what a smart way to know if people like and want the product.
Thank you for sharing this, the company looks so transparent to the customers ! I'm waiting for nothing phone 3 with IP68 and better pwm display.
1:37 I can't help but notice the phone leaning on the laptop. If that's phone 1, was it already ready as a prototype back in 2021?
They are amazing. This is a truly great leader, and a great culture.
This sounds amazing I would love to see a rerelease of the power(1)
Carl is such a good leader, can’t wait what’s in store over the next years.
Yes that is the coolest looking charger I have ever seen.
I would buy this immediately.
You guys should sell the first version as the Power (1) Paperweight!
Salute with the creativity and innovations, the world needs guys like you!
Love the power (1) kindly pick this into production ! Will look forward.
In couple of coming months will be buying my phone (2)
