I fell in love with the SteelDrivers because of Chris Stapleton's voice and I still love him as a solo artist, but I have to say Tammy Rogers is a force to be reckoned with as well. Her fiddle playing gives me goosebumps and her harmonies are always spot on. She has a fire behind her music that is contagious and it's just too bad that she played in a band that was lucky enough to have THE VOICE of Chris Stapleton as its lead singer. It was inevitable that her talent would be overshadowed.
No matter what type of music you are into, if Chris Stapleton is near your city go see him. I have been to at least 50 concerts in my life ranging from hard rock to country. No one compares, and I have seen some greats. I was fortunate enough to see him in Bakersfield, Ca in April 2016 and I can't wait to see him again.
rockinjawjaredhead..thanx4 putting these 2 tracks together.I recently was in a car accident...long story short..recived a car w/ sat radio and heard this group on there, come home and found this song and others by the steeldrivers awsome bluegrass rocks, good down home style !!!
Man Mr Stapleton and the steeldrvers band that song 🎵 blue side of the mountain is tops so true and strong and real 🙌thank you for the best music 🎶 love yall
its a resonator for sure, the reason the sounds and harmony blend so well is because they use the traditional one mic vocal approach for a group of 2 or more and it really catches the overall soul love and blending . Ive followed stapleton for years and I'm so happy for him and his success steel drivers are different without him, but that are still incredible
This group is incredible, then and now. I don't want to be pessimistic about today's Country Music, but some mainstream musicians rely on special effects when they play live, such as: a light show, electric guitar solo's, or the smoke machine. The only special effects The Steeldrivers rely on are their instruments and voices.
ludeman because America hates bluegrass. Jk. No seriously though it’s not mainstream but this is some of the best music out there. Clean. Strong rhythms. Stripped down to just instruments and voices.
I hate labels. He's been in a bluegrass band, a rock band, and now country...He's covered bb king and James brown AND Prince...it ALL SOUNDS LIKE CHRIS STAPLETON to me. He puts his heart and soul in it. He lives it, breathes it, breeds it, and produces it. It's NOT just "country".
Chris, thank you for your love of your music. Love your voice and music. Southern Baptist, and aunt methodist LOVEs you too!!! Coming around the Atlanta area...hope to be able to afford couple of tickets.
I just have this thing about Chris Stapleton's voice.. it blends so well with the others... just something about the new guy's voice that just doesn't fit.. in my book. just my 2 cents worth....
I dunno, I think the new guy fits in quite nicely .. but no, there will never be another Chris Stapelton.. but the new guy will still carry them on well I believe. I so though hope Chris will allow them to use some of his songs. That's what makes them so special and apart from all the rest of the bluegrass musicians.. And that Fiddlle player.. WOW.. if she ever leaves, THEN they WILL be in trouble!! What's her name, anyway? I never did catch it....
@MikeyLikesIt1870 Mikey I read the same thing somewhere about Gary not being a replacement for Chris and kinda thought the same thing about him maybe returning sometime. I can't remember where I read it at though. But, Chris is playing in a rock band called "The Jompson Brothers" right now. There are a few vids on youtube.I would also love to see a return of Chris to the Steeldrivers.
I disagree dogroferifno.. they are well worth the listen . but they were so much more worth the listen with Chris in there.. He's still playing and singing his heart out.,.I don't get to listen to anything much anymore. So it's kind of hard for me to keep up with things.. have almost gotten to the point of me and Hubby playing . and that's sad as hell., we used to have the best time. it'll be 30 years together this June.. we've just got to make some time for it . Hope to get back here sooner!
Did they have a better version up of these two songs? It seems I remember it being clearer. This was one of my favorite two song combinations and now I can't even listen to it really.
@RaymondB1971 I've seen those vids. I wonder how serious Chris is about that rock project. Maybe its just something he does every now and then while still taking time for the fam. I like "The Jompson Bro's", although Chris's voice has so much more power and feeling with acoustic backing.
I saw them live in Ohio.without Chris leading the singing they have lost the soul of the group, The rest are award winning fantastic musicians, but not worth the listen.
Just saw the first 4 seconds of the clip on my phone. It looks like it has a resonator, thus, could be classified as a dobro. Dobro's are normally played lap style. Still, I had an associate that played his just like a guitar.
It's just an acoustic guitar played with a bottleneck slide. You can see the slide on his pinky. To cal it a "steel" guitar is technically correct, because of the slide, and amplified through the mike. Every dobro I've ever seen has a resonator, like a banjo, and its naturally loud.

Both talented but Chris is transcendent talent. He can make just about anything sound great.
These guys should do a reunion.
I dunno, I think the new guy fits in quite nicely .. but no, there will never be another Chris Stapelton.. but the new guy will still carry them on well I believe. Any word on when we can expect that new CD?
👋👋👋👋👋✌❤
Who downvoted this and why?
Just saw the first 4 seconds of the clip on my phone. It looks like it has a resonator, thus, could be classified as a dobro.
Dobro's are normally played lap style. Still, I had an associate that played his just like a guitar.
Ya know it's all good,no matter.
Not to be picky, but isn't that a dobro, rather than a steel guitar?
You're not picky.. it's just a slide guitar is all.. not a dobro or a steel guitar.. :) Probably a resonator guitar.
Rodney Franz.. checked and it is a resonator guitar. I have way too much useless information in my head and keep on adding it!! lol!!

No. Its a steel resonator
@ Thanks! I am a long way from an expert!
@baldmunster What would you like to trade? Dont know if I'd be interested, mine is signed by them all except Chris. Unfortunately
Have a listen to an Australian band called MEN FROM EARTH, they have an album out called WILDWOOD ECHOE'S, brilliant!
yea but is Chris still playing and singing with them now ?
@outlaw21ky no he isn't.
New album due out Sept. 7...Chris is no longer with the band!
@baldmunster Oops, hit the button. But, I could probably make a copy and send you for nothing if you want
Not that he had any influence from Robert Johnson. It ain't easy to do that on dobro
yea they were better with chris
unfortunately, no
this would b great if it was clear
This is an excellent amateur recording
1 guy can't grow a beard.
