    What a helpful video, thank you for posting this. I'm a complete amateur, and thinking of making my first car video (just for fun) of my classic Jaguar/Daimlers, and your helpful video made me realise that it's a lot harder than it looks!

      Nice! With lots of practice you'll be able to make great videos Paul! If you like photography as well I have a full series of tutorials for that on this channel called "Shooting Cars"

    Ok how do take out unwanted sounds such as people talking or even breathing while holding the camera thats my issue i have if i put music in the background it seems to over power the whole shoot

    • @shouldigetit
      @shouldigetit  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you link me to an example? You should be recording audio separately for many of your clips.

      @@shouldigetit meaning i did 2 video shoots in my life i was just born in this and when i am filming the car in a parked location the microphone is picking up people in the area talking etc so if the car revs the engine in a particular point in the shoot its just alot of ambience so how could i edit that stuff out but still keeping the starting up or say the reving of the engine

  • @rebwar08
    @rebwar08 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi my question is after each angle or shot do you press stop or pause on the camera or you just keep filming and make the scenes stop n start thru the editing

    • @shouldigetit
      @shouldigetit  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I stop in the camera for each shot but allow 5 seconds extra at the start and 10 seconds extra at the end.

  • @slytherben

    The D750 doesn’t have autofocus for video right? So how do you achieve focus on a gimbal for a rolling shot? Just set it to f8, hence everything is in focus all the time?

    • @shouldigetit
      @shouldigetit  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, even on cameras that do you have auto focus I don’t use it. Set your aperture around F8 and make sure to manually focus first

    Hey man, you should export and upload at 4k even if you arent shooting at that Res to get the best nitrate and quality from youtube. Nice tips

    • @shouldigetit
      @shouldigetit  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you know if that actually works? How could you export a 1080p project in 4K?

    • @mediacrisp
      @mediacrisp 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shouldigetit yeah dude, heres an article explaining it, you basically just change the sequence/timeline to 4k and scale the clips accordingly. You can also add sharpening if you like but it isnt 100% necessary. www.timeinpixels.com/2016/07/upscaling-1080p-videos-youtube-vimeo/

    How do you get quality sound of rolling cars but no wind noise?

    • @shouldigetit
      @shouldigetit  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Suction mount a microphone with a wind mouth also known as a “dead cat “to the rear of the car which blocks most of the wind.
      If you have two cars on set, a picture car that you are filming and a camera car from which you are filming You can set up a microphone inside of the camera car with the windows down and the windshield will block the wind noise. If you want some recommendations on what gear to get, let me know and I can send you some links.

    could you explain why you shot in 1080 but released in 720 and why you said if you shot in 4k that you would release in 1080?

    • @shouldigetit
      @shouldigetit  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes! I'm planning on making a video about this well over on TH-cam.com/BeAPhotographer lessons
      By filming in higher res (let's say 4K) and then doing the project in 1080p I can do virtual dolly effects and also stabilize the footage much better in post. Stabilizing footage in software makes it crop in, and by filming 4K you have more pixels for the editing program to analyze and stabilize.
      Essentially not just releasing in a lower resolution but rather editing in it to make the virtual canvas smaller than the original file so I can "cut" or crop into it.
