Thank you all for watching, what was a tough video for me to make. I promise that I am nearly ready to tell my story in full… bravery comes slowly but it does come in the end. For now it was good to make a few good memories here in Bristol.
That was a tough day for you. I’m so proud of you talking about your struggles and if it makes just one person feel so not alone you’ve done a great thing xx
I like to think that by opening up to others and showing that despite mental health issues I am still here and still trying to be a success in all things. That it encourages others to keep on pushing through in their lives and understand that they can achieve great things.
So courageous to talk of your past issues, I can only imagine dealing with the good and bad memories. Spent 23 years in Yate, my daughter still lives there, my stomping ground was Chipping Sodbury Golf Club. Still visit to see my daughter and grandsons, lots of fond memories of the area. 👍👍
Great video Oggie. I’ve always watched golf but never had the confidence to play. I am changing that this year though. 👍 I live not too far from Filton Golf Club either as I’m from Bristol. In fact there’s a number of clubs not too far from me. Great putt on the 18th!
Well done John. You were very brave talking about your past life challenges. You’re doing a fantastic job on your channel now and you have a great following. Well done my friend 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 What a putt on the 18th my friend. Your emotions on the green spoke volumes. I can only imagine what is behind them but sharing them will have helped lots of people. Well done John👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hi there Paul, sorry for the delay in replying. I loss track of some of the comments. I always say that part of being a social media creator is that one should show the real person and not a fake… that way when you meet me you know what to expect. Also if my life journey can help others in some way then that’s good. So yes always will talk about personal stuff that has happened with my mental health. So many people suffer and I want to show them that life can get better and they are not alone/
Thank you x I will try and make a film about the full story next time I am in Bristol. It will be tough but sometimes people need to understand more about mental health. And I am happy to show that you can come through it and still be here.
This brings back memories for me too! I used to work as a contractor in Airbus on the A400M project and had digs near The Eastfield pub. Myself and 4 others used to play here regularly for a few years a couple of times a week after our shift. I got hit on the head with a golf ball after a late FORE shout there too. Still got the scar to prove it! That was over 10 years ago i think. I am only just starting to play again now and youd swear id never picked a club up before in my life!
Glad you enjoyed Filton John, your comments on mental health will definitely help a lot of people that struggle day to day. If your ever up near Filton on a weekend in the near future I would be happy to play 18 holes with you.
Hi there my friend. I do try and pop back up that way from time to time but it depends on how well my wife is. Shame that you didn’t see the video when I first posted it because I had a section that was requested to be removed lol
It was a strange day as I was already physically exhausted from the Manchester trip and I think it showed that by the end I was mentally shattered too. But we’ll worth going x
Just Brilliant John. Keep up with the golf and continue being strong, you across as a really nice bloke and if there were more kind and understanding people in the world it would be a much better place. Keep smiling 😃
Loved the video , I have just joined the club . As you said the people are very friendly and the course is kept in very good condition. Keep the good work up, thanks Chris
Great video, played some great shots, 👍 chin up mate, we all have mental problems at sometime in our life, we just have to solder on think positive and think of good things that's happened to us , stay safe mate 👍
Fair play to you fella. Great vlog, and as a member of Filton it was very nice to see my course. Keep taking Oggie, sounds like it need to get some things off your chest ❤️
Hi there Kev and thank you for watching. This video was resided at the request of Filton because I did include another more lighthearted personal story but it’s since had to be removed (that’s why it jumped a little after the introduction) but I am glad that you enjoyed the rest.
Beautiful John, so honest and emotional. The golf was good too. I understand how you feel as I suffered a breakdown at 16 and a minor one towards the end of my working career. Well I am 70 this year and try to be in a good place everyday. Golf and golf buddies help. Your channel also does the same thing. So thank you John and stay safe and well.
Thank you for your kindness my friend. Dark times come and go but we still survive. I will always be honest on here so that people can try and understand. But of course many people won’t, but that’s fine too… the next bristol video I will go into far more detail x
Well Big Oggie , I love watching you , it makes me feel so relaxed. I am thinking of joining Filton GC in the near future and i reckon you have just made my mind up. Wishing you and yours a happy Christmas and a happy new year . Keep the good work up , regards Chris
Thank you so much Chris. Let me know if you do decide to join and if you do please mention your decision was helped by my video there. I am hoping to do more there when the weather inproves
Thank you John, that was emotional, powerful and honest. We are with you through thick and thin, I can personally relate to several emotions you experienced, so it resonates as well. We are all trying to get better, but to put it out there in full public view is very brave. That is why I think you deserve any success that comes your way. On the golf front, your driving and putting is so good now, your handicap will def drop! Had a lump in my throat when that last putt dropped. Well done my friend, and thank you for sharing with us all.
Great video John and very honest no stone unturned, this is why I look forward to your videos it's always been warts and all which at times outshines other channels for that personal touch well done for what you have achieved 👏
Hi mate I'm a member at Filton and found this very moving Off the yellows it's a fraction over 6000 yards. Play it in any sort of wind and if you shoot your handicap, you've had a great round
Hi there Alan. I am looking forward to going back again soon. It’s very strange playing a brand new course so I got a bit caught out at times as always x
The drainage ditches and the thinning out of some of the tree lines have undoubtedly improved the course over the 14 years I have been a member. We are very lucky to have a great team of green keepers, hence the excellent greens. Particularly the 18th 😉
Great video Oggie. Would be interested to see you play Ashton Court, I went there when I'd just started playing and dog walkers/joggers/mums with prams randomly crossing fairways with me having no idea where the ball was going were not a good combo!!
It was quite simply the only place to go if I remember rightly lol. My friends and I used to cycle over from Horfield across the downs and then play. When I was older and had a car I still went there…
Oh it was one of those crazy Rovers days to be honest. Remember it was only a couple of years ago with got promoted with a last kick of the game. But yes this year topped it…

Hi there Nate. It’s a very addictive sport when you get into it. Take the plunge my friend and remember you don’t have to go to all the expense of buying loads of new clubs or joining a club at the start. Maybe try and get into golf scheme (contact local clubs for details)
If you are starting out playing golf in Bristol Woodlands golf course is the place to start £20 a round and 2 of the best pay and play courses you'll ever play.
