Not sure why this is still in 360p guys, it was uploaded in 2k - TH-cam has never taken this long to process a HD video of mine. Hopefully it will in full 2k quality soon.
It seems OK now. I held off watching and just checked back now (it's 4pm UK time) It says 1440p 50 rather than 1440p 60 - what is that about? Was it recorded at 50fps?
Somehow your ship was nearly dead when you first showed it to us! It was slowly healing back but that's why the repair dock was offering a repair, and why the pirates were as effective as they were; you started fighting them on half health! Other little things: you can change the control settings to be like 1.0 instead of whatever strange control scheme the implemented in 2.0. They also got rid of the looping commands and now you send your ships out to do missions. I'm not sure how much this changes as I haven't started my 2.0 playlist yet.
When you don't have enough repair crew for your ship, you will take damage over time. He bought the "brick" and then left it unattended and uncrewed while he went of mining. This meant it was slowly taking damage the whole time and was at about half health by the time he hired his crew and they set to work "repairing" the damage done to the ship. Kind of unrealistic to hold over the damage percentage rather than the total health lost from damage, but whatever.
I really appreciate you coming back to this game spanj. I love this game, even though it is a bit grindy and has a steep learning curve, the expansiveness, the combat, the automization are all just so fun when you get going. I hope these videos inspire more people to give this game a try.
I havent played in a long time, but I recall those missions blocking selling resources back then. I think if you just wait for the mission to time out you can trade normally again. Weird this is still in the game as I considered it a bug at the time. There may have been a way of getting around it without waiting or doing the mission, but I cant remember how that worked. Possibly getting other ships to sell for you?
@@Ironbuket If you have the resources you just sell and insta complete and get the far better price - only reason you wouldn't want to do that is if you didn't have enough of the resource
@@kithran Doesn’t the mission block buy as well? At 25:27 looks like the buy button was locked out, probably to stop people buying and then immediately selling to complete a mission.

I fired this game up again and realized I had forgotten how to play it. But its coming back to me. Tutorial to the rescue! And Spanj's video of course.
Been playing this off and on for ages, but don’t think I’ve played it in a year or more. It surprised me actually, as I normally am not really into building, be it ships or bases, and simply build basic functional bases/vessels, but something about this game makes me try to do more, not sure why.
Spanj right click and Perma Install the subsystems for the extra benefits. That combat subsystem will be a +2 armed turrets instead of one. Also keep your integrity field generators inside so they don't get blown off easily.
I don't think you permanently installed your ship modules. You can do that with any module you find. Also, command loops are gone. Instead captains can be sent on offline missions that last awhile and do what you need them to(mine, trade, scout, find torpedoes, sell loot, etc). This was done to lower server lag and simplify the game mechanics.
Hey spanj so happy to see this game back on the channel been playing myself learned a few things...If you press T while in your ship will take to the drone.. also you can go into the stratagy mode and right click to control your ship RTS style
Also if you play the single player you start with a ship and if you follow the mission you get blown up almost immediately and then get a tutorial for building. The mail you get from the adventurer after you are attacked by pirates is one you get in the single player as well which is why it reads the way it does. I think in solo play and server play you meet him the first time you go to another sector and get the radar upgrade.
What I found I could do was actually multiple turrets next to each other - I put 3 mining lasers on the front pad (they tend to get shot off a lot but that just puts them back in your inventory). I then put armed turrets further back. I was able to because I found a decent turret subsystem - my initial loadout was 3 mining lasers, 1 salvaging laser and 2 combat turrets.
Hi Spanj good to se you on Avorion again :) when you incounter the 1st pirate attack 13:14 your ship was under attack. When you build your starter ship ( it had only less then 30% hp ). You was so confused about why you needed repair ( cost & resourse needed ) 27:16 Fighting pirate with half dmg ship is not good thing to do :)
I've played it for the first time in a long time a few weeks back. Getting use to this game is like a PC user trying to get used to a MAC. But the game is still really good!
I just made like 3 ships costing 500+500 iron right at the start and ordered them to mine asteroids You don't need a captain for the simple tasks, thank goodness, and it saves you from the absolute tedium of watching asteroid hitpoints slowly go down Just slap 1-2 mining turrets on each ship, assign the 3-4 crew required to keep it operational, and easily sweep a whole asteroid field
So excited to see you back in this game! I love Empyrion so much, but there are a lot of features that it doesn't have (like a more living galaxy) that Avorion does, so it is a nice change of pace. I also quite like the building system
It’s a way of starting, but do people actually do this? I usually start with by just mining in the pod for a while, sell some of it / build up resources. Then you can think about spawning in ships. I usually start with a self-built miner (in-game not creative). You don’t even need to do combat at the very start. If the sector gets attacked, eventually patrol ships should destroy them and all you need to do is swoop in and pickup the bits before they despawn. The advantage of just using a blocky ship design is you can repair it yourself rather than having to use repair docks because your design is so fancy it would take hours to do it manually. I wouldnt bother building a fancy ship until you get up to the tech level where you get shields.
In an update you can't run from the fight, they actually stop your ship and shoot it with a torpedo to ensure they kill you. On normal they do give you a free ship that they happily destroy on you, but I guess none of that really matters.
i started this game, got as far as trying to build my own ship and was like .... what, then uninstalled the game :D i think its one i really should try and get back into :D

Tip(s): *NEVER* spawn a block and then leave it be. It'll be damaged over time due too not being assigned crew to maintain it as you could see in the video. This costs a lot of extra resources at the start which can be avoided such as seen at 27:25, where the HP bar at the bottom totally got neglected by mister cockypants that acts like he knows his shit, with a hull of 30% or something. If the game says something's wrong, *first check if you're not gonna look like an idiot shoving it off as bs* by checking if the game is right instead of immediately saying a thing You can always delete the block and re-found a ship later once you do have enough resources. On the topic of crew: I recommend to *NOT* immediately get specialized crew. You have to prioritize properly, and that has been done very poorly in this video at the start. A lot went just, inefficient. Lack of common sense... Grab regular crew where possible. You first want to focus on mining, you can grab specialized miners, and pick regular rest. All ofcourse depending on your wealth at that time. On the topic of docking to a station: Make sure you actually dock at a valid docking port. Not every dock you see is dockable, only the ones with lights blinking towards it. Ignoring the cocky bs, it's a decent video. Hope to not see more idiocy further on.💀
