  • Ankh-Morpork Anthem performed by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the soprano was Clare Rutter.
The lyrics of the anthem are as follows:
"When dragons belch and hippos flee
My thoughts, Ankh-Morpork, are of thee
Let others boast of martial dash
For we have boldly fought with cash
We own all your helmets, we own all your shoes
We own all your generals - touch us and you'll lose.
    Morporkia! Morporkia!
    Morporkia owns the day!
    We can rule you wholesale
    Touch us and you'll pay.
We bankrupt all invaders, we sell them souvenirs
We ner ner ner ner ner, hner ner hner by the ears
Er hner we ner ner ner ner ner
Ner ner her ner ner ner hner the ner
Er ner ner hner ner, nher hner ner ner (etc.)
Ner hner ner, your gleaming swords
    We mortgaged to the hilt
    Morporkia! Morporkia!
Hner ner ner ner ner ner
    We can rule you wholesale
    Credit where it's due."

On not knowing the second verse of your national anthem:
The story goes that, during WWII, some GIs were faced with a guy in a US uniform, who spoke English perfectly, but who was PRECISELY where you'd expect a German spy to be. So they started quizzing him. Yeah, he had a favorite baseball team and knew all their statistics. Yeah, the street he grew up on sounded perfectly plausible.
They asked him to sing the national anthem. He got it perfectly. They asked him to sing the second verse. He got THAT perfectly.
So they shot him. NOBODY knows the second verse, unless they're a spy.

For anyone confused about the "hner ner nyers" in the second verse, those are the actual lyrics. In the short story where he gave the lyrics, the diegetic composer noted that during all anthems' second verse and beyond, people mumble along until they get to lyrics they actually know, which they then sing louder as an attempt to make up for it, so he decided to make them the real lyrics.
RIP Sir Terry Pratchett, you were an absolute gem of wit and humour.

omg, i have been recently going through the books again, or should i say audiobooks. and in one of the books there was a part that included the first verse (possibly Night Watch). the reader of the book, Stephen Briggs, actually sang that bit. but whats amazing is that his inflections were exactly the same as here.
my only reasoning for this is that either Stephen heard this version, and sang it like that, or that they based this version on how he sang it in the audiobook. XD

Same with the Swedish anthem. I've only met 1 other person that knew there was a third and fourth verse.
The verses are 5 short lines and there is no refrain other then possibly the 2 last lines in every verse so thats why we have 4 but since noone knows the last 2 verses exist it is stupidly rare that we sing them or even "ner ner ner" through them.
To make things worse you are considered a rasist if you sing the national anthem on other than national sport events (there is 1 or 2 exceptions).

Also, the first two verses don't even mention Sweden. Instead the glory of Norden (the Nordic Countries, the North) is extolled.

PSA for all the lovely Europeans who know all 3 verses of their National Anthems:
Not knowing the 2nd verse of the anthem is a very British trait. The running joke is that the only people who do know the entire anthem are the Queen, Prince Philip and Tony Blair's youngest son Leo (Prince Philip taught it to him when he was 5).
It's a very British pisstake of ourselves. That's the joke. We know you can sing your whole anthem, (unless you're from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Spain, or San Marino).

I don't really know how about other nation, but Polish people usually know three verses. But it's funny either way :)
