In Book XI, Elpenor asks to be buried with his oar-or rather, buried with his oar on his funeral pyre, so that those who pass by will know the kind of man he was (a sailor and a soldier). Immediately after this conversation, Tiresias comes and tells Odysseus that at the end of his journey he must carry an oar in-land until it is mistaken for winnowing-fan, at which point he should plant it there and make a sacrifice to Poseidon. The subtext there is that Odysseus will be far enough away from the sea and the war that no one would recognize him as a sailor and a soldier. Elpenor asks to be buried with the oar, so that everyone will know who he is. Odysseus deliberately gives up his identity as a sailor and a soldier with the same act of planting an oar in the ground. The soldier is dead, long live the king. 3. This one is perhaps the reason I stayed thinking about him: at some point in your life, the odds are high that someone you care about will die for a senseless and sudden reason. There will be no time to prepare or brace yourself, and there will be no justice to seek. If you're unlucky enough, the death might be "stupid" enough that other people will make fun of it. Elpenor did not die for any noble cause. He was not sick. He was not a hapless bystander in his own death. He was drunk, and he died because it was too dark for him to see the ladder down from the roof he was on. And Odysseus mourns him. Odysseus promises to bury him. Aaaaaaa i love the lyrics long comment in comming the focus on /luck/ because he didn't die in battle or at sea, he didn't die unluckily. He died from his own actions, he would have died sooner without Odysseuses help and greek burial practices(which i knew nothing about before) its so interesting how in that way Elphenor /is/ lucky, he got a pyre, he got to say how he wanted to be remembered and he /was/. Again amazing i love it.
"I died, and Nobody noticed. I died, and *NOBODY* cared-" Yea, Nobody really did care for Elpenor, and it's cathartic to see that in this particular version, Elpenor also cared and wished for his Captain to carry on and finish his journey. This song has no reason to go this hard... Also, if I may ask, what does the sun/fruit(?) in place of Elpenor's head symbolise?
@@Maverick_in_the_Sky when I was envisioning the ghosts, I imagined that it'd be hard to make out their faces even as they emerge from the mass of shades, so the sun is supposed to be Odysseus recognizing and knowing his friend but being unable to really see him
I'm not going to get on a high horse because the jokes were mostly harmless and based off of the cut line rather than manner, but I wanted to give weight to the situation bc when I was younger shows like 1000 ways to die never sat right with me (those people had people that loved them, no matter how they died)
@@Marijke-PerryI know it might sound foolish but when I watched it I was thinking it wasn't real people that have ended like this? If so then it's sad
This is so good! Elpenor and Perimedes seem like such interesting characters based off the snippets we heard and that “Luck run out” and “Remember us” line/callback was great. I love that it went from somewhat being frustrated with Odysseus to a heartfelt goodbye. (Also that lower range for Elpenor? Okayyy)
I'm glad you liked it!! I struggled quite a bit with mapping and emotional trajectory, as I wanted to balance the vibes of "Elpenor is asking something of Odysseus" with "He's also maybe a little mad" and "Odysseus is, at the end of the day, his friend and comrade." I rewrote the second verse and chorus at one point (completely changing the melody whoop) to get to where we are now
The song is really good but it makes me so sad, 'save your tears' but with the wisdom saga and now this?? I loved the "the strangest thought struck me" lyric, the tune and the way its sung is so perfect, this music is amazing
I'm glad I made you emotional! That lyric was surprisingly difficult to sing because it's got way too many consonants, which is part of why it's a slower melody.
I absolutely love the lyricism in this! This is gorgeous, and your voice is so pretty! I especially like how Elpenor keeps repeating that he's lucky because "there are worse ways that men like me have died." But at the very end his tone takes a darker, more serious tone, and I can so clearly imagine him looking directly into Odysseus' eyes, perhaps even grabbing his hand, as he says "and there are worse ways that men like me will die." Not have died. WILL DIE. That's foreshadowing if I ever did hear some, and oh my gosh, do I love it
Elpenor lived through a war and then saw hundreds of his companions die in horrifying ways to a cyclops and cannibal giants in a storm. He knows there are worse ways to go... and he knows Odysseus. He knows the kind of trouble that Odysseus has gotten everyone into before and the kind Odysseus himself often suffers. I considered having that line be "there are worse ways men like *you* will die" as sort of a reminder to Odysseus that every single one of those men are just like him-soldiers with families waiting back in Ithaca-but I ultimately decided against it.
@@Marijke-Perry This choice is interesting because the "you" version feels more like an accusation while the one you want with feels more like a resigned warning, just a statement of the inevitable.
This is incredible! I love the concept of Elpenor's death being one of the luckiest; he didn't have to endure as many horrors as the other men did leading up to the Thunder Saga. Also, I love how even though he was forgotten, he's the one with the most forgiveness & gratitude. He's still rooting for Odysseus when 90% of his crew--dead or alive--don't. This really fleshes out Elpenor's character in a way I wish we got to see in EPIC. Amazing work! (Edit: Also, I forgot to mention- AMAZING art)
Elpenor is a character I hadn’t even heard about before the “I died and nobody cared” meme. Once I learned of him I thought of him as a joke, but you’ve genuinely gotten me to cry over him. I love the bittersweet irony of his shameful death resulting in him meeting a far better fate than anyone else in Odysseus’s crew. You’ve perfectly managed to balance on that line between bitterness, gratitude, irony and peace. Also the line “My luck ran out, but you’re the reason I got lucky” goes so hard! This is the version of Elpenor that I’ll remember from now on.
This adds so much character that Jorge’s Elpenor was missing. The art? Amazing. The singing? Amazing. Everything? Amazing. Excuse me while I add this to my Epic/Odyssey playlist and listen to it on repeat for like 3 days straight.
I'm really glad you like the singing and the art! I worked hard on both. I do wanna say that I think Jorge did a great job and it makes sense what he cut and what he kept, and that this is solely driven by my love for an incredibly minor character rather than the feeling that something is missing
There's some fascinating character stuff you wove into this; the way Elpenor reckons with his death, acknowledging that his passing was in many ways unfortunate AND lucky at once, and how Odysseus' role in his life was something that wasn't 100% good or bad and yet Elpenor wants his old captain to know he still wants the best for him in the end is really telling detail. Also, both you and your brother did great singing! You really sold the kind of harmonic calm Elpenor must feel now that he's at peace with his passing. Overall awesome stuff!
I love the subtle “waiting” line which is what Odysseus mom say to him in the underworld it makes the song feel like it’s connected to the whole epic series even if it’s not and officially song good job ❤
i really like the lines mentioning what happens to those who die at sea. often, in myths, it's mentioned those who die at sea are considered lost eternally (because there's no body to bury or burn). it's a neat bit of mythology that is really interesting for how the sea was probably viewed back then, and it's often unknown or overlooked nowadays, so an actual mention to it is really cool!
I heard your "is Scylla a cannibal" song for the first time while waiting for the Wisdom Saga stream. This song showed up my "for you" youtube page, shortly after that, and I was like "oh cool an Elpenor song". I was not prepared for this. This is exactly how I imagined Elpenor and Ody's talk in the underworld in the Odyssey- and the symbolism is just so strong and moving. Your voice as Elpenor makes me want to ascend into a heavenly realm (this song has been on repeat all day btw) Thank you for making such an epic Epic fan song- I will be going back to the jam now :)

You're pinned comment makes me feel so much for connected to him. Also i already knew that the crew who wasn't buried wouldn't pass on, but for some reason never connected that lore to EPIC and just realized that the underworks song, when he passes everyone, they weren't past the river Styx
@@icydoodle3877 I'm glad the pinned comment helped. I thought for a long time about how to avoid absolutely gushing because I have many many thoughts And yeah elpenor somehow lucked out on being the only one capable of being buried
aaaaa soo good! Having read the Odyssey I think Elpenor is someone often glazed over, but I've really found meaning in Greek funeral customs. Knowing how basically none of his men who died will get to cross the river, except for Elpenor whom Odysseus returns to bury. Ody had to leave the men eaten by the cyclops, those drowned by posiden. But he has the chance to save this one. ooooooo sooo gooood!
I love that you show some of the affection Elpenor has for Odysseus. He asked to be buried with an oar marking his mound, a symbol of his time on Odysseus’ crew. Even though he died young he still seems truly proud of his experiences and wants to be remembered.
Oh my God, this is so hauntingly beautiful! Geniuenly, your voice and the melody of this song just made me sit there with my mouth wide open in amazement because it all sounds so... I don't even have the word! But I was ENCHANTED! And lyrically, this is such an interesting take! Just taking this seemingly silly death and treating it so personally was such a take! I really like this thoughtful approach of Elpenor's, and I'm such a fan of including these stuffs about burial and how important it was specifically in context of crossing Styx. Just, a big fan of yours and this song has been born today and I WILL come back here an ungodly amount, I just know it! And your brother sounds so much like Casper Fox, I did a double take if it's not his channel I'm looking at, I swear to God! xD
Thank you so much! Treating the death with care was important to me, so I'm glad you see the vision, and yeah! My brother hasn't put out any music yet but he's going to. See if I were to do another one it'd be for a minor character from the Odyssey no one's gonna care about but is also dear to me, that being Peisistratus (who I like because it made me very happy that Telemachus has friends)
He's Nestor's son and he lives on another island. Telemachus visits Nestor while looking for Odysseus and Nestor sends him off with his youngest son to go visit other kings from the Trojan war bc Peisistratus and Telemachus are around the same age. Peisistratus and Telemachus then spend the rest of the Telemachy just kinda boppin around together until Telemachus is like "Peisistratus my bff. If I go talk to your dad before I go home he's gonna hold me hostage with social niceties so can you distract him please please please" and Peisistratus does so
The meaning of this song goes so hard! Elpenor (of course knowing the ending already) raises an amazing point. Knowing his Captain track record would he have chosen to go back and live given the opportunity or would he recognize what Eurylochus did, what hope did they truly have of making it home?

Dear Author, I fell in love with this song, the kind of artistic soul that you possess is the kind i would like to spend an eternity with, observing it's beautiful ideas blossom like this one. This song speaks to me in a different language, transcending everything I've heard before, giving me a feeling of surrealness. Words cannot express the gratitude I have for you, in short: I owe you a coffee😅 The emotion in the voice, the conflict of elpenor coming to terms with his fate is a beautiful moment you interpreted like nobody else could. Much love, I wish I could meet with you and talk about stuff, but knowing life we probably live on two different sides of the globe. As a writer, working on the final draft of my debut novel this song emulated the feeling I had when writing the first draft. A feeling of deep insight into my own soul. This has gotten way too long, I just want to tell you I appreciate you a lot : D I think you are a great human being for creating this.
Thank you so much for this lovely comment; it's so thoughtful and kind. I believe in you, and I'm sure your novel will turn out great! I hope you get readers who love it and want to talk with you about it. Please keep writing!
Your voice is AMAZING! I adore your low notes! 😮 The melody is so beautiful, and the lyrics are so hauntingly resigned. This is truly amazing. EDIT: omg I just reached the end and the WAITING?? Break my heart why don’t you. The luck runs out references 😭 And it’s actually kinda hopeful and uplifting for the end part! Tho that last line gave me chills.
I love this song, it's really catchy and you honored a Character, wich if analized, it is a really deep character. For instance the fact that his death is a Curse (because in that time dying with honor for Heroes was really important and Elpenor didn't die bravely) and in the meantime a Blessing (because he got to be buried, remembered with the oar and so got past the Styx unlike those who died with honor drowning or with the cyclops) and I really like that you put his death in this way. Before I used to see Elpenor as a silly character without importance, but now I really see him from a different prespective and I really like him! I like the callbacks to other Epic Songs, too, like "Luck Runs Out" and the "Waiting" part of Odysseus' mother. One other "callback" I have noticed is when Elpenor says: "The strangest thought struck me" I tought of "Thunder Bringer" song because struck is a verb used for lightning, so I don't know if that was intentional, but I really liked that detail. Also the "Remember Them" song from Cyclops Saga when Elpenor said:"Remember us, that's all I can ask you to do". This song is meant to be on Epic the Musical, because it is too good!
@@LilVai06 ah, because in a cut song (Man of the House) it mentioned how Ody became king at 13 or something and I thought his dad died and that was why Ody became king that young, have no idea if that is what EPIC was going for or if it is now different because the song was cut lol
This is genuinely so good!! The callbacks, "remember us", "luck ran out", and I'm not sure if it was intentional but "they're waiting" like how it was with Odysseus' mom's part in The Underworld but all the same it's an amazing line! It genuinely feels like it could slot right into EPIC, like this was a cut song that you finished, it's amazing and I will be playing this on loop now!
The waiting was sort of accidental-I think I'd forgotten about the line in the Underworld until after I'd written it, but it was absolutely an influence. And I'm glad you like that line! I tried so hard to find a way to make trick plural (to rhyme tricks and styx) but it didn't work out, so I'm glad it still landed
In the Odyssey, Elpenor was actually a very important character! Unlike Polites (who only showed up like once), Elpenor actually had a few CHAPTERS dedicated to him! In EPIC, Jay had originally made Elpenor a main character, but then settled on Polites (fun fact, in the Odyssey- Polites only died to Zeus's thunderbolt!)
Lyrics --- ODYSSEUS How my friend did you beat us here, When it took so long by boat? What misfortune has come of you, That now you're here as a ghost? You survived the war, The cyclops' lair, The isle in the sky... What if not a godly storm, can kill you? ELPENOR I wish I'd had a hero's death, 'Stead of falling drunk, Off of a roof In the dawns light I broke my neck, You sailed off without one of your crew But it's better than ocean depths, Those who die at sea don't get a tomb Still I'm stuck by the riverbed, With all the others who died for you, There's nothing you can do now, For all the men who drowned, It's life's final trick, Men unburied don't cross the Styx! And as I died, The strangest thought struck me: "What chance did I have to survive?" C'mon Odysseus, Won't you tell me am I lucky? 'Cause there are worse ways men like me have died If you're willing to build me a pyre, And mark my grave with an old wooden oar, I'll be freer than those who died, Trapped by a cyclops and a storm But a question to ask if I might? Though I don't mean to trouble you more, Did my luck run out on that night, Or did spare me what else you've got in store? I know you'll make it home, Free from froth and the foam But what you'll go through, Please believe I don't envy you! 'Cause as I died, The strangest thought stuck me: "What chance did I have to survive?" C'mon Odysseus, Won't you tell me am I lucky? 'Cause there are worse ways men like me have died I wasn't good, I didn't die bravely... So please save your tears, They can't save me Save them for your wife, Your father, Save them for your son, They're waiting, I passed them as I past on! Please believe me they're waiting, Odysseus you must carry on! As for the rest of us, remember us, That's all I can ask you to do! As you suffer storms, And wrecks, And wraiths, Betrayals, Know I am rooting for you! 'Cause when I died, The strangest thought struck me: It was always you who kept us alive! My luck ran out but you're the reason I got lucky! And there are worse ways men like me have died! And there are worse ways men like me will die... --- I love this song so much
This fits so well into the Epic the musical style It genuinely gave me Deja-vu As If I’d heard it in the underworld saga before. I noticed the wail sounding pianos from no longer you! The guitar strings and drums from monster (that might be another theme of Ody’s it’s just the most prevalent in monster) the music fits so well with the Epic compositional conventions that even someone who knows Jack diddly squat about music production can tell you studied these chord progressions to get it just right. I commend your work this is INCREDIBLE Edit: I realized you made a short with this song and I’d heard it there first. Still it is incredibly impressive how much this song sounds like Jorge wrote it

the focus on /luck/ because he didn't die in battle or at sea, he didn't die unluckily. He died from his own actions, he would have died sooner without Odysseuses help
and greek burial practices(which i knew nothing about before) its so interesting how in that way Elphenor /is/ lucky, he got a pyre, he got to say how he wanted to be remembered and he /was/.
Aaasghhgg you are amazing
They way despite the way he had the best death in a way, he is disappointed he wasn't brave. I could go on longer but i would need the Lyrics written out 😅. Again amazing i love it.
I'm glad you found it interesting! I'll put the lyrics in description in a little bit
@@Marijke-Perrystill waiting on them lyrics /j
"I died, and Nobody noticed. I died, and *NOBODY* cared-"
Yea, Nobody really did care for Elpenor, and it's cathartic to see that in this particular version, Elpenor also cared and wished for his Captain to carry on and finish his journey.
This song has no reason to go this hard... Also, if I may ask, what does the sun/fruit(?) in place of Elpenor's head symbolise?
@@Maverick_in_the_Sky when I was envisioning the ghosts, I imagined that it'd be hard to make out their faces even as they emerge from the mass of shades, so the sun is supposed to be Odysseus recognizing and knowing his friend but being unable to really see him
@Marijke-Perry that's cool. I thought that Elpenor was the one sitting
the song Elpenor deserved after 98% of the entire epic community turned him into a joke 💀
I'm not going to get on a high horse because the jokes were mostly harmless and based off of the cut line rather than manner, but I wanted to give weight to the situation bc when I was younger shows like 1000 ways to die never sat right with me (those people had people that loved them, no matter how they died)
@@Marijke-Perry dang that is deep
@@Marijke-PerryI know it might sound foolish but when I watched it I was thinking it wasn't real people that have ended like this? If so then it's sad
@@user-wm8lt8fl3c some were fictional and some were based on reality. It's less one show and more the phenomenon of "Darwin awards"
I struggled quite a bit with mapping and emotional trajectory, as I wanted to balance the vibes of "Elpenor is asking something of Odysseus" with "He's also maybe a little mad" and "Odysseus is, at the end of the day, his friend and comrade." I rewrote the second verse and chorus at one point (completely changing the melody whoop) to get to where we are now
wow, I hope someone puts the reaction community onto this eventually.
That would be cool! though I think I would die of embarrassment also
I tolled Casper about it in a comment he said he had seen it and thought Odysseus voice sounds like his
The song is really good but it makes me so sad, 'save your tears' but with the wisdom saga and now this??
I'm glad I could impact your perception! He's such a minor character but I have many feelings about him
This adds so much character that Jorge’s Elpenor was missing. The art?
@@Marijke-Perry Ah, so it IS tied to that continuity! That makes sense of there being an island in the sky 😆
As an EPIC fan these lyrics hit so hard omg
“It was always you who kept us alive,” I love this sm
There's some fascinating character stuff you wove into this; the way Elpenor reckons with his death, acknowledging that his passing was in many ways unfortunate AND lucky at once, and how Odysseus' role in his life was something that wasn't 100% good or bad and yet Elpenor wants his old captain to know he still wants the best for him in the end is really telling detail.
Also, both you and your brother did great singing! You really sold the kind of harmonic calm Elpenor must feel now that he's at peace with his passing. Overall awesome stuff!
Aaaaa thank you so much! I'm so glad the torn nature came across, and I will 100% pass the compliment along to my brother
"My luck ran out, but you're the reason I got lucky"
god, this is so breathtaking
I love the subtle “waiting” line which is what Odysseus mom say to him in the underworld it makes the song feel like it’s connected to the whole epic series even if it’s not and officially song good job ❤
And
As for the rest of us
remember us
Honnestly, if I would try to place this song in Epic, it would probably be between "The Underworld" and "No Longer You", it work pretty well
This song is what Elpenor deserved ❤
i really like the lines mentioning what happens to those who die at sea. often, in myths, it's mentioned those who die at sea are considered lost eternally (because there's no body to bury or burn). it's a neat bit of mythology that is really interesting for how the sea was probably viewed back then, and it's often unknown or overlooked nowadays, so an actual mention to it is really cool!
This is so good!? I love how Elpenor isn't completely hating Odysseus, and he DEFINITELY deserved this sort of song!
I love this songgg😭. Thank you for writing this❤️
It came out so well!!! Thank you so much for having me 🥰 you're so talented!!
@@alexperry8561 hey!!!! I'm so happy with how your vocals turned out for Odysseus-- thank you so much for singing this with me
YOU DID AWESOME MAN
I heard your "is Scylla a cannibal" song for the first time while waiting for the Wisdom Saga stream. This song showed up my "for you" youtube page, shortly after that, and I was like "oh cool an Elpenor song". I was not prepared for this.
This is exactly how I imagined Elpenor and Ody's talk in the underworld in the Odyssey- and the symbolism is just so strong and moving. Your voice as Elpenor makes me want to ascend into a heavenly realm (this song has been on repeat all day btw)
Thank you for making such an epic Epic fan song- I will be going back to the jam now :)
Thank you this comment is so sweet it made me cry 😭
wtf everything about this is incredible!! it’s so catchy i might just listen to this alongside the wisdom saga
Do you have a favorite from that because I've probably listened to little wolf 30 times by now
@@Marijke-Perry right now little wolf is also my favorite which i was NOT expecting!!! i forgot athena would be in that song but she ate those vocals and left no crumbs, so did aryon and mico obviously 🔥🔥but all of the songs are so goodddd
I love when we get her singing over the chorus at the end, it's just... so good
Spent the entire day learning about the odyssey just because of this song, time well spent!
awesome!
Update: I might have learned too much; they disrespected Elpenor big time in Epic. I love this song even more now
@@goldendoge8576they did fr
That's why I'm here on repeat daily haha
Honestly this song is so good! I got chills when listening to it.
This song makes me so emotional because it perfectly captures the essence of Elpenor through all the versions of the storiez I've read of him ( The Odyssey, Circe and Epic)
Omg, i love this. I didn't know of Elpenor until Jay's meme song, but immediately liked him, especially when i learned more tidbits about him.
I thought for a long time about how to avoid absolutely gushing because I have many many thoughts
And yeah elpenor somehow lucked out on being the only one capable of being buried
@@Marijke-Perryhonestly if you want to gush more I'd definitely read it XD I've been kind of obsessed with this song 🤣
This is amazing
Btw the lady who voices Elpenor has a lovely voice i was pleasantly surprised by it
aaaaa soo good! But he has the chance to save this one. ooooooo sooo gooood!
damn it, you did it, you turned this one guy whom i believed to be just a joke of a character into one of my fav characters that too in only 4 minutes
I LOVE THIS!! Elpenor is a great character and I wished he got more in the musical so this is great!
I love that you show some of the affection Elpenor has for Odysseus. He asked to be buried with an oar marking his mound, a symbol of his time on Odysseus’ crew. Even though he died young he still seems truly proud of his experiences and wants to be remembered.
This is absolutely incredible
I think my family's getting annoyed by how loudly i keep singing this 😅 its just so good!
He's such a lovely songwriter and he specializes in pop production, so I'm super excited to see him put himself out there (and, of course, grateful he was willing to do this with me)!
I heard Casper at first too xD
Ngl I keep expecting Ody to say “my guy” after “could kill you” I don’t think it even rhymes but still anticipate it every time
@@BeetRoots-z1h see it would bc the line sets up an -y rhyme bc "the isle on the sky"
Originally I was gonna speak "Wine" as like. A slanted rhyme, right before the drums came in, but I thought it was too cheesy
Very good cover! The council has it's eyes on you...
oh I wrote this! It was hell coming up with instrumentation because I usually just play piano
@@Marijke-Perry I'm sorry! I brainfarted there. Very well done
Truly a masterpiece!! A song so well thought!! I hope the community will give you the attention deserved and maybe even call the attention of our beloved Mr. Jalapeño!!! Because this, my dear, is amazing!!!!
HOW ARE YOU SO GOOD AT WRITING SONGS AND SINGING 😭😭 I loved your scylla song and im so happy you finally made a song specfically for Epic! Youre incredible and you deserve so many more subscribers 😊
*see the funny thing is* i actually studied music & classics in undergrad and did several projects writing songs about mythology. i'm just terrible with social media and often get embarrassed about my own work so I rarely posted
@@Marijke-Perry That's so real. Also no pressure but what if you made a song exploring Permides' depression like something similar to Cope with that/comfort zone? I think you would do such a good job with it, like you did here!
And thats such a hauntingly pretty drawing It fits the video so well
See if I were to do another one it'd be for a minor character from the Odyssey no one's gonna care about but is also dear to me, that being Peisistratus (who I like because it made me very happy that Telemachus has friends)
@@Marijke-Perry Is he that one suitor who was nice to him? Or does Telemachus actually have friends
If I go talk to your dad before I go home he's gonna hold me hostage with social niceties so can you distract him please please please" and Peisistratus does so
YOOO, i love this, you somehow gave Elpenor such a serious and emotional song. Oh, im obsessed
The meaning of this song goes so hard! Elpenor (of course knowing the ending already) raises an amazing point. Knowing his Captain track record would he have chosen to go back and live given the opportunity or would he recognize what Eurylochus did, what hope did they truly have of making it home?
I just posted your vid in the epic server to help give you some more recognition I love your song!
🥺 that's very kind of you

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!
Thank you!
This is my first time finding this and it's absolutely amazing.
We've got official EPIC album, probably will get "cut from EPIC" album, now it's time for fan-made EPIC fillers. Amazing song, I hope it'll be noticed by Jorge
Dear Author,
I fell in love with this song, the kind of artistic soul that you possess is the kind i would like to spend an eternity with, observing it's beautiful ideas blossom like this one.
This song speaks to me in a different language, transcending everything I've heard before, giving me a feeling of surrealness. Words cannot express the gratitude I have for you, in short: I owe you a coffee😅
The emotion in the voice, the conflict of elpenor coming to terms with his fate is a beautiful moment you interpreted like nobody else could.
The melody is so beautiful, and the lyrics are so hauntingly resigned. This is truly amazing.
EDIT: omg I just reached the end and the WAITING?? Break my heart why don’t you. The luck runs out references 😭
And it’s actually kinda hopeful and uplifting for the end part! Tho that last line gave me chills.
Incredible job! You really have your own voice even when working inside jorge's structure. Nice interaction with the original text
Im just dieing of peak fiction someone get Jorge on this immediately
i love elpenor and this song is SO GOOD ❤️❤️❤️ this is actually exactly how i pictured him (your lyrics are insane as well, they’re so good)

THIS IS SO GOOD! YOU BOTH KILLED IT! 2:56 I thought Ody's dad already was dead? Am I getting something wrong?
I may have gotten canons mixed up!
@@Marijke-Perry oh, well it happens! Amazing song nonetheless!
His father, Laertes is still alive! (At least in the odyssey) He helps tend Ody’s farm while he is gone
@@LilVai06 ah, because in a cut song (Man of the House) it mentioned how Ody became king at 13 or something and I thought his dad died and that was why Ody became king that young, have no idea if that is what EPIC was going for or if it is now different because the song was cut lol
@@VegaTheLyra I think he became King because his father was going insane?
This is so good
This is genuinely so good!!
I plan to single handedly raise the view count by hundreds
You & me hahaha

ODYSSEUS
How my friend did you beat us here,
When it took so long by boat?
What misfortune has come of you,
That now you're here as a ghost?
You survived the war,
The cyclops' lair,
The isle in the sky...
What if not a godly storm, can kill you?
ELPENOR
I wish I'd had a hero's death,
'Stead of falling drunk,
Off of a roof
In the dawns light I broke my neck,
You sailed off without one of your crew
But it's better than ocean depths,
Those who die at sea don't get a tomb
Still I'm stuck by the riverbed,
With all the others who died for you,
There's nothing you can do now,
For all the men who drowned,
It's life's final trick,
Men unburied don't cross the Styx!
And as I died,
The strangest thought struck me:
"What chance did I have to survive?"
C'mon Odysseus,
Won't you tell me am I lucky?
'Cause there are worse ways men like me have died
If you're willing to build me a pyre,
And mark my grave with an old wooden oar,
I'll be freer than those who died,
Trapped by a cyclops and a storm
But a question to ask if I might?
Though I don't mean to trouble you more,
Did my luck run out on that night,
Or did spare me what else you've got in store?
I know you'll make it home,
Free from froth and the foam
But what you'll go through,
Please believe I don't envy you!
'Cause as I died,
The strangest thought stuck me:
"What chance did I have to survive?"
C'mon Odysseus,
Won't you tell me am I lucky?
'Cause there are worse ways men like me have died
I wasn't good,
I didn't die bravely...
So please save your tears,
They can't save me
Save them for your wife,
Your father,
Save them for your son,
They're waiting,
I passed them as I past on!
Please believe me they're waiting,
Odysseus you must carry on!
As for the rest of us, remember us,
That's all I can ask you to do!
As you suffer storms,
And wrecks,
And wraiths,
Betrayals,
Know I am rooting for you!
'Cause when I died,
The strangest thought struck me:
It was always you who kept us alive!
My luck ran out but you're the reason I got lucky!
And there are worse ways men like me have died!
And there are worse ways men like me will die...

I love this song so much
This fits so well into the Epic the musical style It genuinely gave me Deja-vu As If I’d heard it in the underworld saga before. I noticed the wail sounding pianos from no longer you! The guitar strings and drums from monster (that might be another theme of Ody’s it’s just the most prevalent in monster)
the music fits so well with the Epic compositional conventions that even someone who knows Jack diddly squat about music production can tell you studied these chord progressions to get it just right. I commend your work this is INCREDIBLE
Edit: I realized you made a short with this song and I’d heard it there first. Still it is incredibly impressive how much this song sounds like Jorge wrote it
