Absolutely love Anathema and it's a damn shame that they have disbanded due to covid. Was lucky enough to see them 2 days before we went into lockdown, their last gig I believe. Sorely missed.
I went through Anathema's discography a while back and ended up really loving them, especially their later albums (Weather Systems and Distant Satellites) that just radiate poignant emotions in every other song. Amazing how they ended up here from their gothic/doom roots. Definitely more music for the heart more than the head, but boy do they really know how to hit me in the feels like few bands do. This trilogy and Untouchable Parts 1 & 2 are two of the most moving pieces/songs I know of.
The Lost Song Part 2 is a beautiful song I saw them do this live in Dublin Ireland, Utrecht Netherlands, and in Leeds UK in an acoustic show. Anathema were brilliant live, fantastic melodic modern prog.
They will be reforming but will be known as a Weather Systems, which the name is taken from one of there albums As far as I know all band members will be returning

An Anathema reaction not facilitated by me for once! (well, I did vote for it)
I believe the context for this one is Danny had a foundation for a song that was lost somehow, forgotten or destroyed, not sure... and remembered some of it, which was developed into these 3 connected ideas.
Thanks for the additional insight as always!
He thought he had recorded it, but when he went looking for it he didn't find it. So out of him trying to remember what it was we got these three. 💜
His computer was stolen after a show in France.

I listened to that first part and was very impressed, but part two washed over me like warm waves, beautiful and tranquil... Loving that power with the guitar and strings with patient rhythm. Stunning... Reminded me somewhat of Steve Wilson's work. Excellent trilogy. I'd definitely revisit in future, and will go and listen to your favourite of their albums.

Totally agree that this is kinda too repetitive on paper - but still it works for me too. It's almost magic 😊

man I always cry with this one... part 1 is such a manly energy.. that beat of life! Part 2 is that pure female strength energy... she doesn't need to scream or anything like that too be powerful.. just a whisper and im tearing up

Great songs, great band and fantastic album! The best Anathema album in my opinion.
i think the best part of NOT being a composer is that i can enjoy this kind of tracks as a whole, without breaking it apart in my mind while listening. Don't get me wrong - that is probably fun too but i think you are deprived of the view of a casual music listener, when all your reaction is: wow ... simply beautiful! my two cents :)
I love this band. But like you noted, the woman's vibrato isa bit too much for me. Happens live as well so I think it is just her. Sounds forced rather than natural. But the music is so good that I can deal with it.
Yeah I'd prefer less vibrato, but each to their own

Pretty sure this is one of the many bands I have name dropped!
Sadly, a band that's kinda fallen off for me. Something about their latest albums just never quite managing to grab me the way albums like Judgement, Alternative 4 or a Natural Disaster. Still, these songs, especially part 1/2, are absolutely beautiful.
I believe the lyrics are in fact about the death of a partner (the woman passed away), and finding acceptance for that situation, learning to live with it. It evokes the most well known coping mechanism for death - the afterlife.
Its not digital man, just like Blut Aus Nord's guitars were not synths. Hmm.
As tech improves it becomes more and more difficult to tell what is digital and what isn't. At this point we can have guitars that sound like synths as well as 1 man metal bands that press the space bar on a keyboard and that's it. Though I don't know if the latter exists yet, I know the sound libraries for drums, guitar, and bass are getting ridiculously complex and can sound really close to real playing. Anyways, my point is that I'm going to be wrong about instruments from time to time since everything can be modified with pedals and digital effects. But thanks for pointing out that they don't use any digital sounds in these tracks. :)
@@CriticalReactions I get that, but also think maybe doing a bit of research could help with this before hand? But it is interesting to know even you can't tell.
