I struggled so so much to clone enoki because of the size. What ended up working was putting cuttings in a small zip lock bag with 98% air removed. I just left it in the fridge for a few weeks and the mycelium grew on its own
I'm making agar plates now and I'm gonna go buy some shiitakes later on, cut out some tissue from the middle of a nice big shiitake and grow some mycelium out. I'll follow your video and hopefully I'll be able to produce some fruits in a few months. Your block looked pretty amazing. I hope they taste as good as they look. Thanks a lot for the step by step.
I took some rotting wooden planters from the garden and filled some of the cracks with pieces of shiitake from the supermarket, now we have all we can eat. Simple works too
What a great idea! Would love to know a few more details.. like, what time of year did you do this? It's a year later since your post.. how long did they last, are they still alive?

I have just subscribed to your fantastic channel. Up to now, I have only seen people making spore prints but your method of actually adding a piece of mushroom to the agar dish seems way easier. Can this be done with all mushrooms? Thank you so very much,I have leaned a lot from you.
super interesting, but where should i store the disc? is it okay if i just let it be on a table or somewhere in my house or should i put it in the dark?
You absolutely could do that, but the only problem with that is that you You will have skipped the step that lets you see whether or not you have contamination there. it would really suck to go through all those weeks of work, only to discover that what grows on your substrate is not what you wanted.
Thankyou for another amazing video! I just started my liquid culture jars today. In a week i am going on a vacation and my family will stir the jars everyday. My question is: when the liquid mycelium jar is ready for use. How long can it stay in the jar before using it? And do you need to stir them everyday if you postpone the next step for a while? Thank you!!
Stirring once every couple of days will suffice. The mycelium can stay in the jar for a long time (6-12 months). Once it’s full of mycelium you should put it in a colder room.
I put my dried shitake mushrooms in a plastic jar. After consuming all of them, i used the same plastic jar (without washing it first) as a container for my mung beans. Since i needed a container for newly bought dried shitake, i decided to just transfer these beans to a clear plastic to make room for my shitake. 2-3 weeks later, i wanted to cook mung beans, but my beans looked mushy and upon further inspection i saw something that looked like fungi. I was flummoxed for a bit, whatever happened to my mung beans? Then it suddenlu dawned on me: shiitake spawn!! OMG. I still havr this spawn in a new plastic jar, it kept on growing but i have nowhere to grow it (like those barks/cut trees). I have only grown oyster mushrooms before. I cant throw my spawn, it has reached one side of yhr top of my plastic cover, possibly detecting air. I have this spawn since January. I dont know what to do with it, i cant also throw it 😅
Hey, Beginner here. How would I know that the liquid mycelium is ready to be transferred to grain? Anything specific I should look out for or can I just transfer once it seems "cloudy"? Thanks, everybody Great video. Your videos are really helping me getting into this hobby :) so thanks for that too
Thought I saw a yt video where someone needle biopsied from a mushroom and injected directly into jar? I tried it with portobello and am waiting to see if it will take..
You would have better chances putting a few drops of clean water on the dry mushroom cap and that will rehydrate it just enough for it to drop spores on to foil during spore printing process. Then you can use the spores to inoculate agar plates.
There is yeast, bacteria, and mold spores floating in every room of your house and all over your body. We have to defend our sterile media/substrates from being exposed to them. If you are not sterile, your work will become contaminated with unwanted organisms and ultimately they will outperform and prevent any fungi mycelium from colonizing the media/substrate.
@@jamescaraman1029 Yeah I reuse jars all the time. I just clean them with soap and hot water and sometimes I allow the jars to soak in bleach water before cleaning them if they were really dirty.
Hello I am searching for the name of mushrooms which grow naturally in indian forests. They look like enoki mushrooms but are wild. Can you tell me how to cultivate them ?
I use toilet paper rolls cores(the brown stuff) and sterilize it with hot water and use that as agar substitute

Can I use a heat mat to regulate the temperature
You can try but I have heard bad things about them over heating and killing the mycelium. I’ve always just used a space heater.

You can use the mycelium whenever there is enough to suck up into however many syringes you need.
