Dr B has changed my life! His book Fiber Fueled, is life changing. I followed low carb diets for years and lost 50 lbs. I also developed diverticulitis and had two colon polyps. I have ibs and leaky gut and because of it I couldn’t eat many vegetables and fruits because they ripped up my stomach. His book made me realize I had Fodmap issues. Once I went through that elimination and then reintroduction of these food very slowly, I am now able to eat these plant diverse foods and all of my ibs symptoms are gone!

@@merncat3384 I went with all meat/fish and avocados for just 2 days. My chronic back pain disappeared! I then introduced foods back slowly, one or two at a time. Found the only thing I'm sensitive to is too much sugar, or too much wheat. I have no problem keeping my sugar very low and my wheat low, too. If u do this, go back in slowly with beans and raw cruciferous veggies. I no longer eat 12 cups of coleslaw, but 2-3 cups is fine. We're all different, tho. 2 of my kids won't drink milk. Thank you so much to both of these men. I feel like I’m getting control of my health little by little. Almost 1 month WFPB now. It hasn’t been a seamless transition but I’m seeing benefits, particularly in mood and blood pressure and the weight I can never loose is slowly coming off. This was fantastic. I'm on a health journey, MS 22 years, dysbiosis in the past, vegan almost 3 years. Marked improvements! I notice that when I stick with a variety of whole foods I feel the best. Processed vegan foods and recreating old comfort foods don't really work for me.
Thank you both for a fantastic podcast. I wish I could get my family on board. But I also know they have to have there oen journey and I will continue mine. It's life draining to try and get people to change. So I will just walk the walk. Which by the way I couldn't do 4 years ago. Now I can hike, bike, jog, kayak and live a more fulfilled life. Still have a ways to go but I'm not where I was. Thank you!! Stay safe🥰 blessings

Blue Zones is anecdotal,. So no science there. Claiming Hadza (hunter gatherers) are plant eaters (observational) is to ignore the insects, carrion, eggs etc they must eat. The part on TMAO's was based on one 2014 study where the subjects only ate meat or only ate plants, kind of limited. How many were elderly or smokers? What kind of meat? Other experts have condemned beans due to the lectins which are very toxic if not heavily soaked and cooked. Finally the vegan ideology comes out with the concern about animal rights. While right, it has nothing to do with what to eat. It becomes political.

Well thoose people are very few and certainly outliers. The vast majority of actual experts, and every single authority organization on dietary matters agree that we should eat more fiber.
To say it's confusing because some fringe outlier quack says one thing, when 99% of all official organizations and actual experts says another, is like saying it's confusing to know if the earth is flat or not because some flat earther told you it is.

As an infectious disease physician, I agree a diversity of whole food plants are key to health not only because of fiber but because Whole Foods comes with critical polyphenols, vitamins, minerals, complex carbs, protein and healthy fats to combat inflammation. Specifically for COVID the acute inflammation is vascular and concentrated in the vascular system due to blood clots and thus causing respiratory inflammation amongst other tissues. The critical nutrients that have immediate anti inflammatory vascular effects are polyphenols, vitamins and minerals which are found in whole plant foods that can reduce blood clots and calm vascular inflammation. Unfortunately, The problem with chasing fiber is that the food industry is now making highly processed “health” foods with specific ultra-processed fibers that are devoid of the healthy natural combination of anti-inflammatory nutrients that are in real food. We talk to our body’s immune system via inputs and outputs. The greatest inputs are in the air we breath, the things we swallow and the stuff that contacts our skin.

Sadly It is all gone now. Introduction of processed foods.

Exactly. We've been lied to that the blue zones were vegan when in reality they ate an omnivorous diet locally and seasonally. Most importantly, when they did eat plants, nuts and seeds they prepared them PROPERLY before eating. Plants contain many toxins that make the nutrients they contain bio-unavailable to humans if we don't soak, sprout or ferment them first.

Been to Sardinia two years ago, in a town named Villa Grande, one of the Blue Zones. This is the place they commonly refer to when they speak of the benefits of "The Meditarenian Diet". Boy was I surprised when I realized they do not eat the "The Mediteranean Diet" at all. This town is on the island of Sardinia, but it is not a coastal town. They are high in the mountain. No fish. Prosciutto and mozarella everywhere, from their domestic cows that are roaming freely on the island. Specialty are pigs roasted in the holes in the ground. Of course, I was a tourist, so I couldn`t see the entire spectrum of the diet of the local population, but it made me aware of how misrepresented things are in the public discourse. And how we are simplifying things when we are not taking into account all the other factors, like clean air, fresh water, and an entirely different rythm of life (in Sardinia, like in the rest of Italy, everything is closed from 1 PM till 5 PM, they are having a "lunch break").

Estrogen deficiency in menopause promotes intestinal permeability! This alone can lead to inflammation and a host of problems including autoimmune and metabolic conditions. This is why it is critical to educate these women of microbiota diversity and diet change.

Dr. Gundry has researched for 20 years on thousands of patients so I am not sure why Dr. B is so opposed to his scientific research since he is a scientist, as well.
Dr. G, also promotes a diverse plant based diet over eating animal protein and acknowledges the Blue Zones and their diet.

Could I change my diet? He shrugged and said, "meh, you can try, but there's no evidence that doing so will help." Since then, I've gone gluten & dairy free. I'm mostly plant based...when I stopped eating dairy, I noticed the most significant difference. Better gut and I've gotten sick WAY LESS. I rarely take med's, now. It's all about the diet. Unfortunately, so many have a vested, monetary interest in keeping us sick & on meds. To them, I give all the middle fingers!!! 😁

If you liked this video, you may also want to know about some mistakes people may make in trying to fix gut health! They include: adding a probiotic to help with excessive gas and bloating (that's just one piece of the puzzle), eliminating a food for 4 days and expecting it solve the issue (will take at least 2 weeks), and not thinking about root causes!

He said that he was putting broccoli sprouts in his (hot) soup to get enough sulforaphane. The problem is that the broccoli sprouts contain glucoraphanin and not sulforaphane.
Sulforaphane is made when you chew on the broccoli sprouts and the cells are being desroyed. Then the glucoraphanin comes in contact with an enzyme myrosinase and the enzyme converts the glucoraphanin into sulforaphane (this is part of the defence system of the broccoli plant).
Enzymes are destroyed when they are heated over 70 degrees Celsius (158 F). When you put broccolisprouts in your hot soup, no sulforaphane is made and you lost your nutritional advantage.

Great comment, I didn't know that! But it is the same with the probiotics in miso, so wait until the soup has cooled down a bit before you put miso and broccoli in, and we will get all the good stuff ;)

If you break the cell wall by making a slurry in a blender then pour it into the soup after removing it from the heat then PRESTO , you will reap the benefits. You can also crush black mushroom seeds into powder and sprinkle over any cooked casifrious veggie . Eyes mind heart and soul wide open no fear..... We GUT this .

    • @ewaldhouba
      @ewaldhouba 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@dinomiles7999 After making the slurry you have to wait for about 20 minutes or so to let the enzymes do their work. It does not work if you put it in immediately. The enzymes can't do their work in your stomach, because they are neutralized as soon as they enter the soup.
