I don't think she's "promoting" herself. It feels more like she was letting go of all that was holding her back, including the fallen structure of the order itself. Not necessarily leaving or forsaking it, but putting all that aside to do what must be done.

She is a member of Order of the Jedi. It doesn't matter if she is the last one in existence, she has a role she must fulfil. The Jedi's biggest failing was actually that they didn't help everyone that they could. "Whoever saves one life saves the world entire."

It's so good! I heard people complain about this short because it was so slow, and I was the complete opposite. There's so much intrigue from slowing down after The Duel's duel, the energy of Tatooine Rhapsody, and the absurd rollercoaster that is The Twins. We get to take a breath for 10 minutes and that breath includes some mystery. What is this story? Who is this person in a mask, and why are they following these two people as they go up the mountain? What is the threat to the village? What is the Magina? Upon initially reading the name of the short, I figured it was going to be something similar to Bounty from Clone Wars with a captured bride needing to be rescued, but it turned out to be so much better. I also see it as absolutely possible to exist within the canon with just a few aesthetic changes, like the lightsaber and the heels. Aesthetics are important to Star Wars, but also not really, it's the story that truly matters, and this story could absolutely take place in Legends, Canon, or just as its own thing, and I really appreciated that.

People that complain about this story being slow must not be familiar with the storytelling style of “Ghibli-esque” anime. It’s all done purposefully. I would love to see a full length feature done in this style.

The Village Bride is one of my favorite shorts from _Star Wars Visions_ and my number #1 favorite from Visions, with Ninth Jedi as a close second.
I enjoyed the short not just for its animation, but also the story, the philosophy of the Force/Magina (due to the Taoist Influence and the Village utilizing it) and it's characters where the main character (F) tries not to reveal most of her Identity after she remains in hiding following Order 66 and stepping in to save the day to rescue Haru and Saku from Lord Izuma.
But the biggest highlight that made me love this short was for the soundtrack that can be warm, quiet, emotional, majestic and epic. Kevin Penkin who composed the music of this short has worked on several video games and anime such as Made in Abyss, _Tower of God_ and recently Netflix's _Eden_ so I give big props to Kevin for the score and especially Emi Evans who provided the vocals in this episode as I got emotional listening to her voice in several scenes throughout the episode.
Even, the voice of the Masked Female Jedi is Karen Fukuhara who is best known as Kipo from _"Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts"_ and Glimmer from Netflix's _"She-Ra and the Princesses of Power"_ plus Matthew Wood came to reprise his roles as the Battle Droids in his only Anime dub.
I do hope we get to see more of the Masked Female Jedi (F) in a potential Anime series very soon, besides just only _Ninth Jedi_
Looking forward to your thoughts to the one everyone is looking forward to: _The Ninth Jedi._

I loved how quiet and laid back this was, so when there was action, it's kind of a big deal.
You get the feeling that everyone in this short is holding themselves back, from the villager's sorrow and anguish over the helplessness they feel, to Ef's feelings of being stuck and not knowing what to do. When they realize they need to take action, it was a nice emotional climax along with the action. It was simple but still poignant. And emotionally, like Star Wars, is elevated even further thanks to the music.
The droids were a nice comedic touch too. Not too much, but just the right amount.

  • @Iceskyguy

This short was probably my favourite, it's hard to choose between this and The Elder but I loved this one. It's probably the one that surprised me the most because I wasn't expecting to like it so much. The story was great, the characters were sympathetic and relatable and the music was just on a WHOLE other level. And the story of the short is actually pretty tragic when you look at it closely, not only with F's trauma from Order 66 but also the bride. She's giving herself up as a hostage to try and protect her people but specifically her grandfather who was the original collatoral and that's why she's getting married because she thinks this is the last time she will see her family and the people she loves. That just really resonated with me for some reason. And of course the voice acting was great and it was a nice surprise to hear Matt Wood back for the Battle Droids.
This is one of those shorts that I think could easily fit into Canon, even if the purpose of Visions was that it didn't have to. You can just accept it as headcanon because it all works. We've got the Clone Wars, the hunt for Jedi, the Empire, all those things we know from the canon timeline. We even hear Palpatine during F's flashbacks, his screech from Revenge of the Sith, so that's something else to add to the pile. Those callouts just made me so excited as I was watching.

The music is fantastic, and I'm so glad the soundtrack is out now; the vocal melodies get me emotional on pretty much every listen. I also have to give kudos to Karen Fukuhara and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, for the quiet gravitas they brought to F and Valco, respectively.

Just completed a re-watch of this and notice the direct parallels to Ashoka's third episode "Resolve" from Tales of the Jedi. The characters and location are different, but the underlying story is a hidden Jedi who returns to help the greater universe by using the force to save a person. It was fun to re-watch and find all the comparisons with circumstances, plot lines, and characters, even down to the clenched fist. Looks like watching the episode made me re-watch The Village Bride with a vastly different viewpoint.

When it comes to similarities between plot beats, character archetypes, and themes, I like to believe a reason for 9 episodes of Visions is that they can correlate with the Skywalker Saga (even though it’s just coincidence and the same Visions short can share solidarity with more than one movie - but hear me out!) I believe I cracked the code on which Visions episode is a soul partner with their Star Wars Episode:
The Duel => The Empire Strikes Back
Tatooine Rhapsody => Return of the Jedi
The Twins => The Last Jedi
The Village Bride => Attack of the Clones
The Ninth Jedi => The Force Awakens
    T0-B1 => A New Hope
The Elder => The Phantom Menace
Lop and Ochō => The Rise of Skywalker
Akakiri => Revenge of the Sith
