Another really interesting video. The Black Dinner was also the inspiration for the Red Wedding in Game of Thrones. I always remember my dad telling me, when I was a kid, that one of the Douglas' was thrown out of a window in Stirling Castle, and their body landed in what is now called the Douglas Garden.
@@scotlandshistory My dad certainly enjoyed telling me some of the darker stories from Scottish history, even when I was a wean. Thank you for the video.
Blimey, what was this - the Wild West... but seriously, very interesting. Yup there were some formidable folks around in Scotland at the time. We could do with them now really...
The Red Wedding was inspired by not only the Black Dinner, but also the Glencoe Massacre. (I’m a McDonald descendant and still find myself looking suspiciously at Campbells.)
A great and interesting story of its time, a terrible thing to have happened to young boy's all because a family member wanted to be an Earl if that is true. Crighton and Livingston were not without nastiness either when the need arose. A proper parcel of rogues among others
Fascinating, and as always very well narrated.
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it x

Yes that's right. They were quite a formidable family, and a threat to the Stuarts. Thank you so much for watching Claire. It's always appreciated x

@AScottishOdyssey there's nothing quite like your dad telling you stories when you're wee, gruesome or not!x
@@scotlandshistory that is very true. It was because of my dad that I got into history and archaeology.

@juliewiggers3585 Legend has it that you don't reveal your true identity in the Glen if you're a Campbell... Thank you so much for watching the video.
Same here julie!😊
I believe he was also drawing from the St Bartholomew's Day massacre in France.
@jturtle5318 I didn't know that. Thank you so much for watching.
Lol, I'm a Campbell descendant
The "Black Dinner" was notable because it violated the rule of hospitality, an ethical standard of Scotland,
That's right. It would never have crossed their minds that they weren't safe, although others had their reservations. Thank you for watching.
You would think that even at a young age the king should have had the final decision at that time ,like the Pharaohs
Yes, you would. Thank you so much for watching.
“She survived , due to being a women”
@@Jimmychunguss she did. They didn't want to kill her because she was a female. Thank you for watching.
