      Couldn't agree more. Robby is just a real artist and mixes rock 'n roll, blues, jazz, flamenco, folk and whatnot in such an interesting and musical way, with interesting tonality, experimentation and a great feel. It seems so serendipitous that he, Ray, Jim and John all found each other to make such amazing and unique music, which has stood the test of time so well.

    Gibson should release a Robby Krieger SG Special based on his original 64 SG Special (which he incorrectly calls a Melody Maker)

    His first SG was an SG Special with P90s, even though he always calls it a Melody Maker.

    • @jeanemmanuelkrieger6001
      @jeanemmanuelkrieger6001 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s what I thought
      On the strange days album he plays some really clean parts which sound nearly Fender-ish ... it must be the P90s , his tone change drastically once he started playing his 2nd SG with humbuckers

    love the doors. i worked the namm show from 1996 - 2016, and the only year it was held in l.a. i walked outside and there's robby playing with his band. no stage, just set up and go. i don't think it was announced as there were only a few people there. i stood there for a hour and watched the master at work.

    i got to meet him there when he did the signing. i didn’t even know he would be there but he’s one of my favorite guitarists and i love the doors. i was in the gibson room playing a natural colored SG with a maestro vibrola because it looked like robby’s guitar when a guy comes up and says “we need that guitar for a photo shoot with robby krieger, do you mind if we borrow it” and of course i said yes and was blown away that robby krieger was there and needed a guitar that i was playing because it looked like his.

    Love Robby's playing. He has a unique style and often interesting tonality, a very artistic approach. It's cool that he's playing with all these Zappa cats. I'll have to check that out. Zappa was, of course, another SG player, especially in the early to mid-70s or thereabouts.

    Can anyone tell me why his signature guitar is a Les Paul instead of an SG?

    • @SSSweeper
      @SSSweeper 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well his sig SG was pretty limited as far as I can recall and probably sold out. After that Gibson released his sig LP.

    • @SSSweeper
      @SSSweeper 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Rusty Undercarriage Karl specifically asked about RK's signature SG. I know that Robbie has issued a signature SG, then signature Les Paul and now (based on this video interview) another signature Les Paul is probably in the works. I was referring to the first two guitars not the upcoming one.

    Enjoyed it. You youngsters listen it. Y’all need to experience what all these older rockstars know. Buy youself a SG or Les Paul, buy a Marshall or EVH 5150 ‘Which is the ultimate Modified Marshall’, a delay pedal or reverb pedal or both, crank it up and you will hear that unique tone that you can’t get anywhere else. It will inspire you and you will write great riffs that you didn’t know were in you. The spirit of the tone will guide you. It will change the way you hear and play. Then you incorporate your shred style lead playing over those riffs and there will be no looking back. You will need to get a attenuator or build your own which you can do for 20 or 30 bucks or run a volume pedal through the effects loop after your delay and reverb. This is for the smaller venues like the small bar on campus corner or your garage party, etc... This is where it all began and there’s no experience like it. Don’t let cost deprive you of the joy of it all. If your not married and have no children, there is a simple way to get the gear. CREDIT! Yes the American way. Do it now because once your married with kids that hope is gone for decades. Now a word of caution - Once you play a SG or Les Paul through the Marshall the women showing up to see your band get much prettier and that temptation to get married? You’ll probably succumb to it and the band is over. However, youll have the gear for life. If you get married before the Gibson/Marshall adventure you will never hear, feel or experience what all these rockstars and millions of us street players have. Go for it kiddos.

      Music & More Great advice! My last years of High School I was in a rock band playing a 1973 Gibson LP Custom through a 2x12 Kustom amp with fuzz pedals. Got married right out of collage, pretty much the end of live playing. But did have my 15min of fun! (For a brief time had a tall Gibson amp until it blew up!)
