Manzarek and Krieger Defined The Psycodelic side of Blues and Jazz... And Morrison just put it in words... But we cannot forget the groovy drums of John Densmore
Morrison did more than just put the words, he was a composer and guided the band. If he was born with today’s technology he would’ve easily made music like Kanye West, Pharrell, you name it. He even predicted the type of music they make with machines.

You have it backwards. Morrison had the words. Manzarek and Krieger AND Densmore built their music AROUND those words to create the mesmerizing psychedelics that still resonate today due to the “universal” compositions.

It makes my heart so warm that Robby and John are still playing today. Gives the people who weren't alive in the 60s a chance to experience it like it's still 1967. Even with both Jim and Ray gone.

Yup, tears. 😭 I love this so much. I at 68 didn't even discover The Doors until this year (2023). I feel like I missed so much and have had to make up for it. I bought the collection and have been reading a lot of books including Robby's...such a fascinating history and what a time to have been living in LA...amazing.
The year was 1967. Graduated from High School. Same year The Doors and Strange Days came out. Never will forget the total enjoyment of the period. These groups can make a 3-5 minute song for the radio, and stretch it to 30 minutes in a concert hall. 60s Rock Is King.
I graduated in '69. In '67 We drove out to CA and I heard the long version of this on the radio from SF (KPFA?) in my grandma's house. It was so exciting! That same summer Purple Haze and Brown-Eyed Girl came out...
we still had short hair; our folks let us go over to the Fillmore to catch a show: The Doors, Richie Havens, James Cotton Blues Band. Morrison was wasted (supposedly he had been given STP?) but the show was great nevertheless. He did not fall off the stage, and the sound was excellent. It's so great that Robbie is still doing this, and doing it so well.
Fascinating about how the song arose. Never knew about the reference to Coltrane but absolutely!

The horn section is amazing 🤩. Robby really sounds great on his solo. Of course he never forgot how to play it after all these years. I love this music set. ❤️❤️❤️
He wrote one of the most enduring songs of the 60's! You can't help but think of the 60's when this song is playing!

Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens. I was 10 years old when Light My Fire was released, when Robby included These Are Some Of My Favorite Things into his guitar solo I couldn't help getting chocked up remembering what it was like being a child growing up and listing to all of this great music when it was new during the late 1960's. Delightful.
Same age for me listening to older brother's music. Never noticed the Favorite things part...another great song!!

I'm 69yrs old and have been a huge fan of Robby's talent and rate him highly. There would have been no Doors without his style.
My father was the man responsible,who introduced me to the doors!! I still remember like it was yesterday,glad people appreciate their music!!!!!.....the doors music!!!!!
Us mere mortals will never be able to fully comprehend what it must be like for Robby to be jamming out on his solo over a HALF-CENTURY after he first laid it down. Thank you Robby Krieger for your staggering contributions to music.

I didn’t start listening to the Doors until I was 21 in 1980. I thought they were great then and I still do, shows how far ahead of their time they really are.
I didn't start listening until this year 2023...at 67. Ya, I always knew the name, that guy that died and Light My Fire but it wasn't until this year that I went into a deep dive about everything Doors. I am now a fan for the rest of my life. I bought their collection and a lot of books...A documented fascinating history and time for music and to be in LA. Peace. 🙏
Hey, this is very good, BUT it just goes to show you just how incredible it was when 4 guys just let it flow through them like they were taking a walk in the park.
The 60’s can’t be recreated. The harder we try, the more elusive it gets. Those times were a mixture of nonchalant iconoclastic irreverence and uptight anxiety over what tomorrow might bring. We were mixed up between our belated ignorance and our sense of country and what society “should be”. In the midst of that was Elvis and Jimmy Hendrix…..and a really cool band called The Doors. 😎

Love the version, the performance, and the story. I got to meet Robbie at a show one night and he was very humble and cool. His show was great. He’s got great jazz in his soul. There is something about this song that is timeless, and simply a canvass for many interpretations. Thx

This is absolutely one of the very greatest rock songs of all time. No other rock song ever recorded was better. As well the Doors as a band do not take a back seat to any rock band. The songwriting and arrangements of this band are remarkable. While Jim Morrison was a great vocalist and wrote some fantastic lyrics, most to the credit of the Doors greatness goes to the three instrumental band members. Their artistic creativity and originality is off the charts and second to none. The Doors Music is so incredibly diverse and overall their sound cannot be placed in any category.

What a masterpiece!
The jazz undercurrent in the band was always part of it, obviously in Ray's organ playing but also in Robbie's guitar. The Coltrane connection he brings up feels quite natural. By the way, this song points forward to early Yes, doesn't it? - another band with jazz and soul influences.
And yes, this is a superb version of LMF.
500 yrs from now this song and many others from the 1960's will be alive in some form or another. It will be revered and listened to with amazement...
Dan Rothschild is doing a great job on vocals. Dan is wearing a The Specials t-shirt. The Specials are one of my favourite bands and I suggest that you TH-cam The Specials and enjoy some really fun, upbeat songs. Thank-you to all involved in producing this Doors song and uploading it.
Best surf song of all time. Driving up and down the coast of Florida in 68-69 looking for waves in Cocoa, Satellite, Sebastian Inlet, Reef Rd, NSB, Ormond, Blowhole. The Doors made travelling easy

Just finished reading Robbie's book! amazing stories! one of the best rock bio's ive read in some time. I love how they add the horn solos...gives it more of that jazzy feel. Far out to see Robbie play that solo in 2021!
I finished reading Robbie's book (Set The Night on Fire) yesterday, 11/12/2021. Great book. Clears up a lot of rumors and misinformation about The Doors.

Always felt that Robbie was the coolest member of the doors. That SG played slung up high (compared to Page and Townshend), the crazy hair, cool clothes, the shades and almost expressionless face. Think he took ten steps within a three foot radius total per show. He was by far the most understated guitar hero of his generation.

What’s genuinely amazing is that the first song he ever wrote turns out to be the summer of Loves most popular song and a number one single for the Doors that put them on the map.
So he didn’t just hit a home run, he hit a Grand Slam! After this hit, they went from clubs to stadiums.
And he’s still so quiet and humble. The Late Great Ray Manzerak said Krieger was the Doors secret weapon. He also wrote Love me two times and Don’t you love me madly.

Jim did write the line about our love becomes a Funeral Pyre. Only Morrison could rhyme Fire with Pyre! It was brilliant!

Morrison really was quite an amazing rock star. So young with so much charisma and intrigue. Great writer and the band was one of the best in America. Just a bunch of fantastic songs. Don't make em like that anymore.

He is one of the 10 greatest guitarists for me ,underrated by the glamour of Jim as a frontman.His values upon fingerboard were so right - inspirated - original - unexpected ! For example ,his solo to "Crawling king snake" still surprices me.

I was listening to this song earlier today and it occurred to me that music of this era was so good because the musicians were influenced by Jazz Musicians like John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Dave Brubeck. Even Ringo said his stepfather encouraged him to listen to Sarah Vaughan and he really appreciated her artistry.
These kids are Great!

EXCELLENT! I saw Robby and Ray a few years ago in Phoenix Arizona. i Couldn't get a ride, so I missed the original band at Dinner Key Auditorium In Miami many years ago. Robby has always been one of the greatest and most innovative guitarists. Thanks for posting this Wonderful video. A great team of musicians and well produced. "DOORS", always one of my favourite bands and i have enjoyed playing their music as a drummer. i started playing in 1965

Light My Fire is one of the anthems of the 60's and more, of revolutions of the body and the mind. After the magic of the time I can understand wanting to keep it going. Me too! But you can't recreate something as unique, as living as "Light My Fire." Just can't be done. It's like trying to paint a picture of a flame. You can get close, and people might say, "Oh, that's just like a flame (or any living thing) and they might be right. "Like" the real thing but NOT the real thing. Rock on Robbie!
I love everything about this performance. This kids are going to make it big someday.
