    Robbie is so under-rated as a guitarist/musician, he wrote some of the greatest music of the 60's, an amazing songwriter, it's a shame they didn't keep the Bigsby on that sweet guitar, Peace.

    One of Rock's most underrated guitarists. Yet, he wrote & played some of the most popular & seminal, and iconic rock songs of all time. Unlike so many other guitarists, he seems to have zero ego, even to the point of being quiet/shy. Yet The Door's probably paved the way for all the harder metal groups which were to follow. Do people realize that he'd never even played an electric guitar until 6 months after joining the Doors! I can only imagine what Robbie's IQ must be. Morrison was the front man & got all the press, but Robbie was the quiet creative engine that drove the train.

When I saw the way he plays his D7 with the F# bass I realized there was another cool thing that I just learned from a true master. He's so humble and nice and his guitar is cool too. I will never forget the time I worked for the Butts Band, I pretty much lived at Johnny Densmore's house (in the Valley), one day I went with Robby to the Guitar Center in Hollywood. Robby sent me in looking for a Les Paul.In the store, I saw one, in the hands of Robin Trower! No matter, they took the guitar away from Robin and gave it to me and Robby. I had never seen a transaction with just a check, no book or cover! I was about 22 at the time. There was no feeling or starstruck of anything, they were just a band of guys that I worked with. John had told us that the Doors sold out Madison Square Garden (first for a rock band), and that when Jim died, they couldn't even sell out a small club!

    Not trying to me mean here, I loved the Doord, I went to one of their concerts in Southern California in 1967. Robby K in my opinion has never been a stand-out player.... Medeoker at best. Yes, he is an old dude today and his playing shows it big time. Old age is catching up with the fella. I started playing guitar in 1967 and I eventually became quite good. My problem was I was too shy to play in a band and get up on stage. I pretty much quit playing when I returned from Iraq in 2010. I was a US Military Pilot who retired with 26 years. I have forgotten everything I knew...I now am a Premier TH-cam viewer. It totally relaxed me...

    This is not ur typical Gibson Les Paul guitar, its entirely Mahogany body guitar says on the Gibson website

    • @davidallen346
      @davidallen346 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      He said in a interview that the original Black Beauty guitar had a big neck that he couldn't get used to playing it like his SG I was wondering why didn't he get that original neck pickup repaired by someone like Seymour Duncan, I'm guessing it wasn't set up right and neck had huge bow in it that's why he used it for slide guitar.

    • @therover4141
      @therover4141 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidallen346 probably cause the guitar wasn't a vintage collectors item at the time and he just wanted something in it.

    • @therover4141
      @therover4141 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      All customs were all mahogany until they came back in 68 when norlin bought Gibson. In 68 when Gibson made the les paul again they made the 2 pickup maple top black custom and a p90 goldtop standard. They were trying to cash in on the new les paul craze but missed the mark cause people wanted the sunburst model that the big guns of the time were using. So all historic customs Gibson makes today should be all mahogany.

    What AMP's does Robby recommend for the classic Doors guitar tone??

    • @therover4141
      @therover4141 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      He used fender twin amps

    • @therover4141
      @therover4141 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The fender champion 100 is a great solid state slightly less than 300 dollar stand in for a twin. I got a bunch of amps mostly use Marshall jcm 2000 but also bought the champion 100 for hauling to jam nights and not worry about the abuse and it is an awesome amp. The clean channel is set to mimic the fender blackface twin reverb and does a pretty good job. You can get some cool sounds from the gain channel but I might like the gain sounds but you might hate it people are super picky about gain these days so look at it as a twin clone with a bonus dirty channel that is like a modeling amp from fender tweed amps to blackface to the British amps and even a high gain amp selection and jazz amp. So I'm sure you could find a usable tone.
