    That was the most concise explanation of Fender's change to CBS I've seen on a channel yet. Usually people are confused about that part of Fender history.

    So it’s the most versatile Bassman tutorial video on TH-cam. Thanks for it! Now to tweak my ‘79 silverface for ever )

    I have a 1966 ab165 bf bassman that my father bought new along with a 2-15 and a 2-12 cab he played bass through it I use it with my telecaster and a SG and love it

    I enjoyed this a lot. I got a '67 AB165 Bassman last summer and had it 'blackfaced' and voiced for me by a great tech. This vid reminds me a lot of my experiences discovering this circuit.

      Pro tip: you can watch series on kaldrostream. Been using them for watching all kinds of movies these days.

    I'm having my amp tech change my 65' Bandmaster to a cathode biased ab165 Bassman. Just got my Mercury 50wt OT. It already growls with a Les Paul. The amp is surprisingly snarly.

    Great Info! Amp sounds excellent, super versatile, that's a very cool mod. Now I'm going to start experimenting with "Jumpering" on my old Silverface!

      Right? We needed someone to tell us that way back when! Plus I thought "jumpering" was just a Marshall thing?!

    I have a 68 AB165. It's a killer amp great tone

    Ive used my 65 blackface bassman AB165 since the late 60s for Bass and knew about jumping channels then. It was cool to adjust the tone by varying the volume on each channel

    Imagine being famous enough to get Carl to work on your amp. 👀 That'd be rad.
    That Bassman sounds spectacular.

    do you mind sharing some of the mod specifics?

    • @mundojuillerat

      I not the most technical person I just play the things ha! I'd reach out to Carl for specifics. But there's a lot of details here in the vid. Most were updates were to the original circuitry and I picked the tubes because they sounded like updated vintage tubes. We did convert the two prong to a modern three prong power cable. Thanks!

    I thought jumpering channels on Bassman had no effect if any because of the circuit design? What am I missing here?

  • @Breezeshot

    I think my silver face was in his shop at the same time as yours! Have you had a chance to play with pedals on yours?

    • @mundojuillerat
      @mundojuillerat  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No I haven’t I really should tho. I mainly am using this for
      recording (with an OX Box.) And for main rhythm parts and riffs. I’ll definitely will experiment and let you know. So happy I did the conversion! Thanks for the subscribe!

    Do you know if a blackface circuit can be converted to blonde era? I want to change my ab165 bandmaster to a bassman, and I just love blonde era stuff. Especially the vibrato circuits on blondes compared with bf era. I was hoping to also keep the vibrato channel but convert that as well to blonde spec.

    • @mundojuillerat
      @mundojuillerat  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the question. Per Carl here's his answer: A conversion to a 6g6 Bassman would take some work due to the eyelet boards have a different eyelet layout and a different filter supply. There would be more rewiring than just a Silverface to Blackface conversation overall. I don't suggest the conversion. It would be more like a rebuild than a conversion.

    Not sure what you meant about a post 65' bassman 'became it's own amp.'
