I find that all these things are really difficult to answer honestly to yourself in gachas due to how much they promote the FOMO mindset. The better option is to force yourself to not even log in at all for a while. If two weeks later you still feel the urge to get back in, then you're probably still liking enough things about the game to keep playing. But you may find yourself not missing it at all once you have cleared this hurdle of "but I will miss out on XYZ" by forcefully shutting yourself out of the game. Had this experience with a couple games myself where I *thought* I still liked them enough to keep playing but circumstances forced me to drop them for a bit and I found myself without any urge at all to play them again once I actually had the opportunity to again. That's how I realized the only thing keeping me in them was FOMO.

I quit Azur Lane for about a year and genshin for about 8 months, came back to play both and am still enjoying my time cause all I needed was a break from the ~gacha experience

I find my f2p rolls do may better than any paid to play stuff myself personally. Probably because i plan for the worst case scenario while building up my account in using the game systems to the best of my ability. Plus an added bonus of my favorite characters being meta helps. Like 99% of conversation and topics, people have different experience with different kind of people and when they see people with the opposite opinion, they assume that they are all the same as a few bad apples or bad experience they had with them. F2P that brag about it like they are vegans are obnoxious but so are the non f2p players that gospel about characters being shit if you don't spend money to upgrade them. My HSR account is whale, meanwhile my BA account is F2P. Both are extremely good account and could clear endgame with ease by now. The only difference I felt between them is the satisfaction after finished building them. Obviously, the BA account wins by default 😂

Ive seen some pretty crazy takes about logins and playing daily. Not worrying about logins/dailies has personally done wonders for me and prevented burnout.
I started my life in online gaming in Eastern MMORPGs like Silkroad Online (a game I remember fondly to this day XD), because those were free 2 play unlike World of Warcraft and my family was broke AF so there is no way we could pay a WoW suscription and the first thing you notice in those very old "asian" MMORPGS is that they were packed with microtransactions even as back as 2006 or 2008 and instead of being something to be ashamed of it were a source of pride and joy for the holders of those lvl 100+ characters packed of payed benefits and premium stuff. I am talking about 15-20 years old eastern games, which were of free subscription but intensely monetized with microtransactions, from the more "fair" ones like skins or ornamental pets and mounts, to buffs and other items which gave real, tangible, indeniable advantages, obviously as any kind of Eastern self respecting game these were grindy AF too, so the payed stuff only worked properly if the player put the grind too. So when I see how the first gachas that came to the west worked it didn't surprise me at all, I already knew that asian people like to pay for stuff to show off, but make don't mistake in the western games the pay to win gives short cuts to players, but the far east games have "pay to grind", basically they pay to grind even more efficiently and usually this people are the more hardcore of hardcore gamers, despite paying for advantages these guys can use even your F2P account and characters to a greater effect to want you would ever be able to, just for their deep, vast and insightful knowledge of the game, Asian whales are insane. Silkroad Online was a MMORPG created around this eastern fixation for cultivation, so the more high level and powerful the character the better, so while the game had level cap it was so hard to reach it that only very few really crazy whales were able to and guilds worked like martial arts sects presided by someone with a really powerful high level character, we really loved to have sessions with the guild master not only because the guy will literally gave us things, but also because we received recomendations about builds, how to improve our characters and leveling up from him, it was literal gold. Also big brother liked to help his lackeys to level up and get stronger so we get more stronger as guild (to participate in guild wars and shit), it was like we were an extention of his characters so not only he could show off his flamant character but his powerful guild too, it was really great, my character was like level 86 which was super high for a poor F2player like I was then, but I was even a middle rank official of the guild and all due to my level and good relationship with big brother and the main core of the guild, good memories. XD
I just play cuz it’s fun to play and the memes that come out love the community’s that make the game fun, also characters that make em stand out and the story. Sometimes I don’t even read the story cuz it takes to long and have like 6 other games to play or my homies calling for backup in cod or other games and have to juggle through 😂
im a dolphin that enjoys character building and gameplay, less on story and character collecting, as long my built units can clear the game, im content so I dont tend to go for one time good time unit, more on units that are versatile for clearing most of the content, then have backup units that can counter the resist I spend only for great games that deliver great stuff, not cause I want to pull everytime but I support the company behind making the game possible Also if they think genshin is p2w, try netmarble gachas for themselves lmao

I care because gambling addictions are a big problem in my country which ruin many households. These gacha companies are specifically crafting the games to manipulate people with gambling addictions to spend lots of money. It's a good thing to discourage people with addictions from continuing.
F2P is something to boast about IF the game has PvP elements that allows you to use your own equipment. If you win as a F2P then you are objectively more skilled. But ngl P2W with PvP is a terrible game design that should be eradicated
This is an issue that MMO's and MMORPG's have more so than Gacha games. P2W equipment is REAL and turns f2p players away if you can't earn said equipment through gameplay. Gacha games don't really have that much of an issue with it since they're mainly single player games unless like you said, there is p2w equipment with PvP game modes present.
My money, my stuff; but microtransactions suck and i dont mind the backlash they get at any point. I only care to spend if the game is worth it and if i can afford it. So far i only spend $10 on the Pass of Star Rail. Maybe imma spend $10 on Wuthering Waves or maybe Girls Frontline 2

From my experience. Gacha things is fine as long as they dont put in any aspect of pvp competitive aspect. I like gacha on game like FGO, ZZZ or any hoyo game. Because its mean for single player purpose. But if it on game like Ragnarok online,etc. when highly pvp aspect are on the game feels more disguisting P2W bullshit.
When it comes to whaling I only care if its friends gambling away money they need for more important stuff. I could care less that someone with plenty of fun money uses it on gacha. Players really don’t care all that much about a game being FTP friendly. Aether Gazer is very, very generous with its in game rewards and ability to get new characters, yet HI3 isn’t as generous but one is much more popular than the other. Both games are awesome to play (I prefer AG story, combat and lore but I do enjoy HI3 a tremendous amount too) but one is friendlier than the other in terms of in game rewards.
The only time i've been annoyed at a whale was someone who would spend big money on a game just to complaint after that the game was "Too easy" like what him expected it would happen

I use "f2p btw" but I don't want to fight against spending, I'm grateful to the whales, thanks to them the gacha I love can stay afloat without me spending. I use it just because I'm vane and sometimes I look for some recognition for my efforts. And because when I show my accounts many would think it's all paid, belittling my efforts. Nice to hear it said, i feel like the Gacha community in particular is really bad about this, the one that always bugs me is people declaring someones account 'dead' because they don't have the hot new meta unit, regardless if they are clearing/farming content just fine. Especially so as someone who takes several months long breaks from gacha games at times, because i would rather play when I want to, than feel the need to keep pace on a live service treadmill.

Being F2P was and still is an experience for myself since if I ever spent in a gacha game, I would get bored of the game. Now the idea is debatable depending on who's views this comment, but I just don't like the idea of me spending in gacha games when I could be spending in other areas of my life. I just chose to not develop a pay to play mindset in gacha games and feeling good just to play the game as it is, enjoying the gachas I play and not to worry about the big stuff (P.S. Gachas tend to have re-runs often if I couldn't get the character and/or equipment being released at the time, so I could plan ahead if how would I be able to get that character. Personally i’m invested in the stories but i’m more invested in the characters. I’m a waifu collector and i try not to take the game too seriously. Other players in the GFL community might think i’m a n00b, and honestly that’s fair. But spending a little money on the game doesnt make me “wasteful” or “lazy” or “obsessive”

Separate topic, but there's this thing going on about Wuwa vs Genshin right now. I'm in the mind that Genshin is a good game that barely really innovated in terms of gameplay mechanics through its years of existing (they added a new element, dendro, and got a lot of exploration QoL chars, but that's it). But there's a certain group in the Wuwa fanbase who feel a superiority complex just because their dev is better, the weapon banner has no 75/25, their combat is more complex, etc. Some of their content creators create content just to bait and dunk on genshin fans, which is just malicious and breeds more hate.

I started my life in online gaming in Eastern MMORPGs like Silkroad Online (a game I remember fondly to this day XD), because those were free 2 play unlike World of Warcraft and my family was broke AF so there is no way we could pay a WoW suscription and the first thing you notice in those very old "asian" MMORPGS is that they were packed with microtransactions even as back as 2006 or 2008 and instead of being something to be ashamed of it were a source of pride and joy for the holders of those lvl 100+ characters packed of payed benefits and premium stuff.
I am talking about 15-20 years old eastern games, which were of free subscription but intensely monetized with microtransactions, from the more "fair" ones like skins or ornamental pets and mounts, to buffs and other items which gave real, tangible, indeniable advantages, obviously as any kind of Eastern self respecting game these were grindy AF too, so the payed stuff only worked properly if the player put the grind too.
So when I see how the first gachas that came to the west worked it didn't surprise me at all, I already knew that asian people like to pay for stuff to show off, but make don't mistake in the western games the pay to win gives short cuts to players, but the far east games have "pay to grind", basically they pay to grind even more efficiently and usually this people are the more hardcore of hardcore gamers, despite paying for advantages these guys can use even your F2P account and characters to a greater effect to want you would ever be able to, just for their deep, vast and insightful knowledge of the game, Asian whales are insane.
Silkroad Online was a MMORPG created around this eastern fixation for cultivation, so the more high level and powerful the character the better, so while the game had level cap it was so hard to reach it that only very few really crazy whales were able to and guilds worked like martial arts sects presided by someone with a really powerful high level character, we really loved to have sessions with the guild master not only because the guy will literally gave us things, but also because we received recomendations about builds, how to improve our characters and leveling up from him, it was literal gold.
Also big brother liked to help his lackeys to level up and get stronger so we get more stronger as guild (to participate in guild wars and shit), it was like we were an extention of his characters so not only he could show off his flamant character but his powerful guild too, it was really great, my character was like level 86 which was super high for a poor F2player like I was then, but I was even a middle rank official of the guild and all due to my level and good relationship with big brother and the main core of the guild, good memories. XD

F2P is something to boast about IF the game has PvP elements that allows you to use your own equipment. If you win as a F2P then you are objectively more skilled. But ngl P2W with PvP is a terrible game design that should be eradicated

This is an issue that MMO's and MMORPG's have more so than Gacha games. P2W equipment is REAL and turns f2p players away if you can't earn said equipment through gameplay. Gacha games don't really have that much of an issue with it since they're mainly single player games unless like you said, there is p2w equipment with PvP game modes present.

I only care to spend if the game is worth it and if i can afford it. So far i only spend $10 on the Pass of Star Rail.

When it comes to whaling I only care if its friends gambling away money they need for more important stuff. I could care less that someone with plenty of fun money uses it on gacha. Players really don’t care all that much about a game being FTP friendly. Aether Gazer is very, very generous with its in game rewards and ability to get new characters, yet HI3 isn’t as generous but one is much more popular than the other. Both games are awesome to play (I prefer AG story, combat and lore but I do enjoy HI3 a tremendous amount too) but one is friendlier than the other in terms of in game rewards.
The only time i've been annoyed at a whale was someone who would spend big money on a game just to complaint after that the game was "Too easy" like what him expected it would happen

I like being f2p because it makes the game more difficult. If I wanted to cruse on easy street, I would whale. I am not going to say anything, but I still have the right to judge if someone whales or not. I just feel like those players are robbing themselves of a better experience.

I use "f2p btw" but I don't want to fight against spending, I'm grateful to the whales, thanks to them the gacha I love can stay afloat without me spending. I use it just because I'm vane and sometimes I look for some recognition for my efforts. And because when I show my accounts many would think it's all paid, belittling my efforts. Nice to hear it said, i feel like the Gacha community in particular is really bad about this, the one that always bugs me is people declaring someones account 'dead' because they don't have the hot new meta unit, regardless if they are clearing/farming content just fine. Especially so as someone who takes several months long breaks from gacha games at times, because i would rather play when I want to, than feel the need to keep pace on a live service treadmill.

Being F2P was and still is an experience for myself since if I ever spent in a gacha game, I would get bored of the game. Now the idea is debatable depending on who's views this comment, but I just don't like the idea of me spending in gacha games when I could be spending in other areas of my life. I just chose to not develop a pay to play mindset in gacha games and feeling good just to play the game as it is, enjoying the gachas I play and not to worry about the big stuff (P.S. Gachas tend to have re-runs often if I couldn't get the character and/or equipment being released at the time, so I could plan ahead if how would I be able to get that character. Unfortunately, I find it hard to do so in HSR when I keep losing 50/50, I'll take dupes but would like a Bronya/Clara, just ain't showing up. Like its ok tho, gacha is gacha. I can still play the game alright.)

If these prices were considered unacceptable, and if lower spending was more normalized, prices in games would be lowered to the maximum people are willing to spend. Where the tradeoff is on how to behave is unclear, and debatable, but it’s not true to say that it never matters who plays gatchas in what way, because your actions affect the society as a whole beyond your own experience.
that sounds good and all, but phrasing it as some sort of righteous cause for the better of society or whatever is where you run into problems. this belief is what makes people think it's ok to belittle and berate others because they are spending or whatever. if you really truly in your heart feel strongly that gaming micro-transactions are the devil and the cause of the fall of society then you should 1. not play the games at all. 2. do something productive like volunteer for gambling recovery programs.

Personally i’m invested in the stories but i’m more invested in the characters. I’m a waifu collector and i try not to take the game too seriously. Other players in the GFL community might think i’m a n00b, and honestly that’s fair. But spending a little money on the game doesnt make me “wasteful” or “lazy” or “obsessive”

As a Daily Pass/Battle Pass spender, the money spent (roughly 200$ CAD yearly) for the enjoyment gained is worth it for me personally.

Separate topic, but there's this thing going on about Wuwa vs Genshin right now.
I'm in the mind that Genshin is a good game that barely really innovated in terms of gameplay mechanics through its years of existing (they added a new element, dendro, and got a lot of exploration QoL chars, but that's it). But there's a certain group in the Wuwa fanbase who feel a superiority complex just because their dev is better, the weapon banner has no 75/25, their combat is more complex, etc. Some of their content creators create content just to bait and dunk on genshin fans, which is just malicious and breeds more hate.
