my jaw dropped mike when i saw the horizon monarch. what a big bloomer. yes, I stayed through the whole show. a lot of hard work man. well worth it. thanks. cp.
Video was not long enough so the wife and I watched it a second time. The landscape it gorgeous again. All the colors and varieties are amazing. Best garden tour yet.
I absolutely LOVED this video. I can’t image the garden of Eden being more beautiful than your rhody gardens!!!! I literally stopped the video and re-winded it several times just to see one again and listen to what the name was. Then I tried to find some of the ones I really wanted but unfortunately I couldn’t find many of the ones you mentioned for sale. Absolutely beautiful Mike!!! Thanks for sharing your paradise ❤️🌸🦋🌹🐝
Such serious color envy! Yes I see blue on golden gate. Love Alec G Holmes. Such a pretty pastel. Just when I think you’ve shown me my “favorite” you show another and I get a new “favorite” 😂 Your wide angle shots are just gorgeous.
I loved the tour of your beautiful rhododendron garden!! Thanks for taking the time to walk us through it. You must enjoy walking through it each and everytime. It's heaven on earth!!
I enjoyed every minute of visiting your beautiful park. I am sorry that we in our country do not have such a large selection of rhododendrons. I look forward to new announcements, greetings from Croatia
What a gorgeous garden! I live in the PNW, and I adore rhodies. You can have lovely flowers throughout the spring, and beautiful shapes and foliage the rest of the year. I have a King George, it is stunning!
I can’t wait until I can get down to a few nurseries to buy some of these plus a couple azaleas I like also. They look awesome all mingled together like how you’ve done it. It looks so nice, I can imagine sitting amongst them while drinking my morning or evening coffee or both. Great video!! Well done Mike. 👌👍👏🥰🌟🇦🇺
Mike, thank you for giving us another garden tour of all your gorgeous rhododendrons. I loved it! Yes, you definitely have an admiring cat, she's a cutie, and I bet the girls love having her around too. Have you named her yet? Please show the Black Widow again when the blooms are open. Since you asked what we think, we really need to see it in full bloom. Okay? Have a blessed week ahead! ~Margie🐈😊
Hey Margie, good to hear from you. I'm working on another update and I think I did some follow ups of the Black Widow in that one. The cat's name is Scrappy. We actually got 4 cats, 3 sisters and a brother. The girls are having a lot of fun with them.
Enjoyed the tour. Midnight mystique is so cool in bloom. That dark edge with the white, wow. Most of the dark ones I can take or leave in Rhodies. Probably because it's such a common color and we see it everywhere. My favorites are the warmer colors and the blue colors.

Mike, I'm a man and I prefer the red rhododendrons over the pastel ones. Your wife has good taste. The reds tend to be more stunning in my opinion. I do like them all nevertheless. I really like Red Gold and Fire Rim. Honestly, I did not see any blue in the Golden Gate rhododendron. It was red and pink. Blue is a cool color and that cultivar had warm blooms. Since I no longer live in the PNW, I can't really grow rhododendrons. They don't do so well here in Texas. Fortunately, I can grow roses, crape myrtles, and gardenias. You certainly do have a lovely garden, Mike!

Hi Mike, great video, thanks for sharing 👍! I really love those blooms, all the colours are gorgeous! How often do you prun your rhododendrons? Is it necessary?
I do a big pruning job every 5 years or so. I like to let them get big and then I prune the lower growth. I'm training them to grow as tall and tree-like as possible.
Thank you! It's a labor of love to plant all of this and maintain. Every year, we get an extraordinary treat in watching it all come alive and bloom! I will do more videos this spring as well. God bless you.
Stunning!!! This is goals! So far I have 4 planted originally with the house we bought and just bought one today a white kind (Chionoides) can’t wait to see it!
I don't know if I'd ever watch another one all the way through but it was interesting. When you said you really love Roadies, you weren't kidding were you. Cool stuff. The logs half buries by mulch make it look more natural. Do you plant Impatients in with the rhododendrons? They like shade and the same soil. The water chestnuts came yesterday and those are planted. One bed of tepary beans had to be soaked. Strange, because they're native, but it was 97 here and the wind burned the leaves. We have had some bad wind storms thanks to wild fires last year. Kumquat is ready to bloom again. Tangerine has a nice bunch of fruit on it. Chilacayote squash is climbing the fence and calabacita are getting ready to sprawl all over. Imagine a cafe with good parista and some small circle wood table with comfort chaire at this amazing garden !!! but must be a ticket with little price for services , Nobody can resist pay a bucks for this
my friend had one that sounds like yours. i pruned out about a third down to the ground and it was slow, but it started some regrowth. we had no idea what would happen. the following year we cut the rest down to the ground. i would start by pruning a few test branches and see how it goes.
Thank you for the beautiful and inspiring tour. I fell in love with Rhodes when I saw them growing wild, covering the hillsides around lakes in southwestern Ireland and have tried to grow them myself. BUT, I just don't live in the right place - - my hot, central-California summers, heavy, alkaline clay soil and short, "rainy seasons" really aren't ideal. Any suggestions about what types might like it here?
I live in West Australia which has a similar Mediterranean climate like California. I’m getting into hibiscus - although not rhodies- can add a beautiful pop of colour with some beautiful shades. Also loving the often scorned bougainvillea:) I’m also trying out my first Peony. Will see how it fares…

I just bought a Rubicon today at the rhododendron species garden in Federal Way.
What gorgeous Rhododendrons! Like your wife, I prefer the darker colors. What happened to your dog’s left front paw?
Only 2 minutes into the video and I want that scene as a screen saver on my laptop, its absolutely stunning !. Be good if you did a calendar ,they would definitely be popular. But that background with those trees and everything coming together is just perfect. Can I use a screenshot please ?
Yes, get a screenshot for yourself. The calendar is a great idea. I'll put some thought into that one.
Thankyou

Good morning!!!! 🌺We have a very old big rhododendrons . They have become lanky and tall ,Can we cut them down and have them regrow?
my friend had one that sounds like yours. i pruned out about a third down to the ground and it was slow, but it started some regrowth. we had no idea what would happen. the following year we cut the rest down to the ground. i would start by pruning a few test branches and see how it goes.
Yes, more than likely.
I'd be growing figs, plumeria, and oleander in your area. Oh, and some Mexican bird of paradise.
Thanks for reply. Yep. I can grow a lot here - - roses love it, for example - - but sure would like a few Rhodes.
