Damn... This reminds me of when MK9 came out on the PSVita. Is it impressive that they managed to shove that game and all it's features in it? Yes. Does it look good? Absolutely not. But the PSVita was 100% a handheld so we cut it some slack. The Switch is an underpowered tablet 2 generations behind in terms of graphical capabilities. In more practical terms, this is more like "How would MK1 look on a PS3/360" kind of situation.
MK1 would not even be scalable to PS3/360 in the first place. The Switch GPU is two generations ahead of those platforms and also has more memory plus a more efficient CPU - which is why this game alongside other current gen ones are feasible in the first place.
Typical fanboy, cut the vita slack but not Nintendo when both are held hands. And if yo I think the switch is a console first and handheld second, then you my friend are a Neanderthal
The vita got some leeway since there's no other handhelds comparable to it at the time but now we have other options such as the deck and the ally so people are expecting way more now
From what I've read, M1K made the jump from MK11's Unreal Engine 3 to Unreal Engine 4, which in turn scales extremely poorly with lower-end hardware if other UE4 Switch games are of any indication. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night and Destroy all Humans are probably the least offensive UE4 Switch ports, though games like Rad Rodgers, Redout, and M1K are the more typical result of porting a UE4 multiplatform game to Nintendo's hardware.
That makes a lot of sense. I didn't recall MK11 on Switch being this much of a downgrade so I wondered if this time it had something to do with the high-end version using tech that just doesn't scale down as well. Good thing that Batman: Arkham Knight runs on UE3, the Switch port should be well optimized.
@@HelpTheWretched UE3 still has its caveats tho. As someone who has put in way too much hours into Killing Floor 2, I can attest to the engine having an upper limit on how much stuff it can have (graphical intensity included) I imagine if M1K continued using UE3, it'd likely hit the game's content ceiling halfway through Kombat Pack 1 and the game just runs like dogwater on all platforms
The Switch is a 7 year old tablet that's horribly aging. What were people expecting? When even the Steam Deck is starting to chug on certain games, then you know it's time to release the Switch 2😂
Why people critice the switch for me they had some decent quality for a handheld console from 2017 but really they need to make a console not a handheld console like the wii u or switch
The animations and load times are the bigger problem or probably because I had little expectations about the graphics to begin with, but my biggest gripe is that why they have the same price tag??
In my opinion, they shouldnt have bothering or put in the effort to make a Switch port. I like the switch and many games look pretty good on the console dispite not being super powerful, but not this game.
This takes me back to when movies would get games made in all different styles so it gets nostalgia points from me. I understand that the switch has no choice but still charging the same price is insane to me😅
I played my switch copy of MK11 yesterday just because of this port. Yeah that wasn’t great but it was significantly better in performance and even visuals than this. Ed Boon said they’d fix the port and with the switch 2 rumors ramping up I hope they give people a free/cheap upgrade for it.
The developer could have easily adjusted the textures in the Switch version. At least like Mario Kart 8, put an additional texture on top. There would have been more visually possible for the Switch. The change on the Switch between 30 and 60 frames is ok, i think they use Double Buffer. The animation speed with 60 frames was optimize for the look of 30fps I hope my English is enough, it's not my native language
Suddenly I'm taken back to Mortal Kombat 2 in 1994 on Sega Genesis vs The Super Nintendo. Both were so different! And then I got it on my Pentium and all was well, or was it the 486? Toasty!
Are there even fatalaties or brutalaties on the switch if yes since when did nintendo lossen there grip on brutal games on that, just curios not mad just amazed
So it has glacial load times and the textures are dog shit. I'm still buying the Switch version because it means I can still experience the game while in my home, on the bus, or taking a shit.
ehhh the devs worked hard for it. Does it look laughable? Yes. But that doesn't remove the fact they did their job. As for full price, surely some sellers have it for lower than $70 because I see it around 50 for every platforms.. And graphics don't equal work. Witcher 3 on Switch looks silly. Doom looks foggy as hell. They still play well. The gameplay is there.
@@TheAkutsuyeah, I'm going into this with the attitude that I played mk11 on switch and enjoyed it, played doom 2016 and eternal on switch, beat them and enjoyed it so im sure I can play this just fine too.
If I didn't already know this was a new game, you could convince me the Switch version is the original release and the PS5 version is a remaster made years later.
Honestly, if it's going to look this bad trying to emulate realism and they're going to cut corners and animations, why not just try a different art style for the switch release? Nobody was going to be happy with this, at least with that option there's some sort of benefit to trying it on that platform. You're paying $70 for an inferior version of the game, may as well price it accordingly.
What I find amazing is the fact that they can make a port for the switch but not last gen. I wouldn't even mind if it had to take an extra year for it to come out.
Yea it really doesn't make sense, it also doesn't help the fact that the game doesn't even have cross-play & tbh i think them not making this for last gen was so that they DIDN'T have to add cross-play. This game is so unfinished it's not even funny.
Agreed .. and here I was debating whether to get it or not before any sort of gameplay for the switch was out they saved some of us our 70 bucks and 109 for that special edition nonsense for the experience on the ps5 it’s worth it but on the switch that price ain’t worth that
I think people should do more comparison of the previous title of the switch MK11 to see if they even attempted to make look better! And I’m not sure why anyone would think a old hardware would be near anything a ps5 is!

Y’all wouldn’t have hacked it back in the day, Nintendo DS versions used to be so different and bad looking than pc and console counterparts. It’s ALWAYS been that way. I don’t feel bad for you if you pay for this game on switch lol.
My biggest problem is the pricetag, but look, right now all i have is a switch and i cant afford one of the other consoles, let alone a pc that could run it. When i was watching the announcement trailer i wasnt expecting it to he even on it. But when i saw it was, i was so damn excited. So i dont care it doesnt look the best or it might stutter here or there, im just glad i get to play it.
My PC is a potato mess and I won't have the money for a PS5 anytime soon, so I'm glad they released it on the Switch since it's the only option I have to play the game since it won't be released on the PS4. The biggest downside of the Switch version for me is the lack of facial expressions, otherwise it even looks better than the Steam Deck version in some points.
This reminds me of when PS360 games got ported to Wii, or SNES games ported to GameBoy. As long as you're expecting a downgrade when you buy it, there's nothing to be upset about.
PS3/360 ports were often completely different games built from the ground up. COD MW3 is a great example of this. MK1 definitely has big concessions on Switch but it's nowhere as comparable as that since it's the exact same PS5 game.
During that generation, the last-gen versions were made from scratch with a completely different engine from the current-gen consoles of that time. Take Star Wars Force Unleashed for example, the Wii version is a completely different game from the PS3/Xbox version. It's rare for devs to do that nowadays, so they didn't do the same for MK1. They cared more about being able to sell so they just butchered the heck out of the PS5/Series X versions of MK1 to make it run on the Switch, which is a console less powerful than a PS4.
@@federalexpressman9762 Back in those days, very few engines were cross compatible between the hardware generations. Just goes to show how feature-rich the Switch is for a portable, even though it’s portable power concessions hinder its ability to use those modern features to full fidelity in cross-gen titles.

When it's running properly it looks better than expected, it's just unfortunate that they didn't let this cook for another couple months. They have promised to iron out the bugs and bad load times, so hopefully we'll be able to look back on this fondly and not with dead, texture-bugged glass eyes

As someone who has put in way too much hours into Killing Floor 2, I can attest to the engine having an upper limit on how much stuff it can have (graphical intensity included)
