Do You soak your new line in a bucket of water (12 to 24 hours b4 use) as recommended in the Stihl instructions that come with the head. Do you think this makes a difference in the performance of the line?
I just bout a Stihl trimmer with this spool. Its worked perfectly for taking down a mountain of weeds behind my house. The line failed to advance only once. I just opened it and rewound manually and no other issues
Bought one of these to replace old head that was a pain in the ass , with this awesome easy to use perfect everytime head. Loading it up is truly fast and simple. Zero headache!!!!!
until it starts getting dirty and dry and binds up so you cant wind the line anymore or bump feed it until you take apart the head to clean and lube it lol
One thing I'm noticing with this head is how much line I'm not wasting. Had mine for 6 months and still have yet to run out of the line that came with it.
Everything worked Just as you said it would. So easy-to-use. I didn’t even take the spool off the trimmer, just pushed the line through the hole after lining it up and then evened the line up and started to crank the head as showen on your video. All together it took about 3 to 5 minutes and I was back to trimming again. Thanks for the helpful video. 👍 👏
Thank you for watching. That was the purpose of the video. I felt not enough information Was given out about these heads, that's why i made this video. Glad this was useful.
I just got this head and i hated it at first but after using it for a week i think its the best one ive ever used i never use the auto load yet always manually loaded it
I just purchased the Stihl FS 56 trimmer with the auto cut head that you show in the video. I have brought it back to where I’ve purchased it twice. Here’s my issue. When I am using the trimmer IM having to tap the head too often to extend the line. I get about 6 to 10 feet of trimming and the line is disappearing inside of the head. I do hold my trimmer upright most of the time in my yard to edge my mulch beds. The last trimmer I had for 15 years was an echo and I only had to bump it 2 or 3 times to extend the line in the 45 minutes that it takes me to do my yard . This trimmer seems like it is very well-made but I am confused as to why am I losing the string so fast. Thank you
Soak the head in some water for 24 hours or so before using. See if that helps. It sounds like the line that's in the head is dried out and brittle. The head itself isn't causing the line to wear/break faster.
Nice video. Terrible head though, just upgraded to the FS-56rc from the fs-55r and immediately went and bought the 25-2c head for it. Within no lie 5 mins of using the 26-2 head the line “welded” itself together causing me to take my brand new Stihl trimmer apart to fix.
The Stihl Autocut 26-2 came stock on my FS56RC. My first order of business was to replace it with a normal Speed Head 400 when I noticed the Autocut added to much weight to my trimmer that it actually felt like I'd mounted a blade. I expect that on a blade, but a string trimmer head? I weighed the 26-2 and the Speed Head. The 26-2 was over 5 ounces heavier (1.1lb to 11oz) than the Speed Head. The Speed Head works perfectly--the Autocut is in storage.
yeah i immedaitely noticed that too when i replaced it with a speedfeed 400 lol. its so much lighter its easier to handle and i think it cuts better due to being lighter since the motor can spin the lighter head faster and easier
I'm running .095 on it with my Kma 135r battery Stihl trimmer. I like it but find it much wider than standard heads. I wanted it because my ryobi 40v has it standard, but in the regular size. But overall, it's easy to use and definitely saves time.
They have a flat base so tend not to rock and dig the strimmer cord into the grass. I've never had problems with it feeding line either...but what I do find amazing is nobody complains about the difficulty of loading line on it . After a few hours strimming, my hands are too weak to twist the bloody thing.😢
If you dont cut the line properly it may have some rough edge at the top which makes it more difficult to push the line through the holes. I recommend you use sand paper to sand the top of the line.
Bought my fs 131 acouple days ago, all settup from the dealer, soaked the line like recomended and it is unusable, welded broken line in the spool, have to continually take it apart to respool it, think the problem may be the line.
I got one. The string would not advance when bumped. I had to rewrap the string before it would work. The string was bound so tightly as if fused, there was no way it could have advanced.
I bought one of these with my weed eater. It kinda sucks. It was always a bit of a challenge pushing and spinning the head to load the string. Then it just got more brittle and harder and harder to do over time. It would also get twisted and I'd have to open it up 2-3 times and redo the line before I even made it through a length of line. I replaced it today with a shindaiwa 400 head and so far it's way easier to deal with.
Its like there is notch inside that is made just a shade higher or larger that doesn’t let the string fully release enough string. Something stop the string and melts string together. Have to take apart to remove string.
I find most bump feeds work best at full revs to release line, if its not spinning fast enough the spool doesnt have enough force to slip around and counter the force of the spring
I have the same problem. Taking it apart, I saw that both halves of the cord are wound onto the inner spool, while the outer one remains empty. Now, I take it apart every time I load it and wind the appropriate sections of line onto the spools by hand.
I heard that this model of mowing line, as long as it hits the ground when starting the machine, the mowing line will automatically extend without manual work. I tried several times without success, could you please demonstrate?
The main problems with these spools is that they don't release line when bumped. your video would have been a lot more worthwhile if you'd actually tested the head. I have a C 6 - 2 and, like a lot of people, I am not impressed with it.
i'm in here looking for reviews, cus I hate it. It's breaking off constantly and it breaks off inside the head pretty much every time. did you find a solution or did you just get a new head?
The jury's still out. I haven't use it much lately, but I have very little faith that it will improve. I think Stihl have a bad product here. If I buy again, it'd try for a different Stihl head. One of the comments below rates the Stihl 2-2 bump. Maybe the old is better than the new.
It's caused my shaft to bend I've had to hit it so often I wish I'd never got the thing! My old SuperCut 20-2 head lasted 2 decades and was awesome. This one has been on a year been terrible damaged my machine and worn almost the same as my old head did in a decade but in 1 year! Mines headed for the bin and I'll be fixing my trimmer and re installing the old SuperCut head and be happy for another 2 decades!
It appears that some of the C 26-2 heads work fine and others do not. I'd have thought that Stihl would have looked into the problem since there are so many bad reports about the head not working. Perhaps it depends on in what factory they are manufactured.
I just put this head on my Stihl 56RS. I hated the old head and had issues with it throwing the string out. After I put this head on I used it for about 3 feet and the string broke off inside the head. Had to take it apart to get it back out the feed channels. Same thing again in 3-4 feet. Thought maybe the string was old and it had been on the shelf or something for a while so put new Stihl string on it. The knob is extremely hard to turn while loading it. String would not feed again. Any suggestions? POS or something else?
The knob is hard to turn, but we have not found any issues with breaking line. The new line should have fixed the problem. I would guess if you were having problems with the old head too, it’s likely what or how you are trimming. Edging with a line trimmer and chain link fences are big line eaters. Also you want to operate with the line at full length and cut with the tips of the line. If you are diving in too quickly on vegetation that is too thick it will wrap around the trunks like Indiana Jones whip and yank it off at the eyelet. If all else fails, take it to your dealer and let them test run it for you to see if they can duplicate your results
@@mainstreetmower Thanks for the follow up. I do not have any chain link or trees. Only using it on fescue against a brick and stone fence. Use an edger for the sidewalks. I dont think it has anything to do with how I am using it but I do like the idea of letting the dealer run it some. Thanks again.
Very good! I did not know about these. For some reason I only got the head for the hard plastic fingers/cutters with my Stihl. So, I need one of these. Thanks for the information and great explanation.
I love how easy it is to load the string. But the string still gets hung. I seems like it gets a little warm and sticks to the rest of the roll. HI I have a Stihl fs55RC trimmer. it has the old style winding 2 pieces cord into 2 feeds manually. This model has a steel plate between the winder and the unit stem. Once I remove the manual feeder unit I also remove the metal plate. Then the protruding cog and screw is not compatible with the trimmer, and if I replace the metal plate, add the c26-2 unit ,the trimmer does not spin when started. Drop a locking pin into the hole on your gearhead. This will lock the rotation of the gearbox, then you can grab the whole plastic bump head assembly and spin clockwise. Spin the new head back on counterclockwise.
This head came standard on my FS 70 and it has not worked once. Worst line trimmer I have ever owned and have returned it to get my money back and investing in a good pair of scissors to trim my edges as it would be faster and less painful than using the FS70.

do You need to push the tap in when turning

@@mainstreetmower It doesn't work for me. Taking it apart, I saw that both halves of the cord are wound onto the inner spool, while the outer one remains empty.
Now, I take it apart every time I load it and wind the appropriate sections of line onto the spools by hand.
I tried it with several cords. Any idea what could be wrong?
Como sacas el hilo cuando estas trabajando y cual podria ser la vida util para jardineros que usan la FS55 5 horas a la semana.
I see the head, but diameter string do you use and what diameter for what use/application?
Did you watch the video?
So every time one side of your line gets cut of when hitting sharp object you have to take all the line off and re-feed to spool!
How do you put the 26.2 on your trimmer????
Drop a locking pin into the hole on your gearhead. This will lock the rotation of the gearbox, then you can grab the whole plastic bump head assembly and spin clockwise. Spin the new head back on counterclockwise.
fantastic demonstration, thx for sharing my friend
Thanks for watching and commenting!
This head came standard on my FS 70 and it has not worked once. Worst line trimmer I have ever owned and have returned it to get my money back and investing in a good pair of scissors to trim my edges as it would be faster and less painful than using the FS70.
If you restring that head with new line it will work properly, the stock line sometimes causes problems
What do u do if the strings stuck in the head
You would have to open it up and reset
will it fit other trimmers besides stihl
What's the biggest diameter line you can use with this head?
Great job explaining everything. Thank you very much.
Thank you Jim. Glad you liked it!
well done lads love your videos
Thank you David!
What head do i need to fit my Stihl FS46?
Nice Echo repop..
Awesome video!
Thank you. We're glad you like it.
can i use the auto cut c 26-2 on my FSA-56?
Unfortunately not
Hello can you use 3mm thick trimmer line? thanks :)
Is this fit to Stihl FS94R?
Yes
The protective head kept spinning off of mine. Would never stay on. Attached as designed and still had issues
Haven’t ever seen that, take to your dealer
Brand new head, from dealer & just put on machine. 4 times the line has broken inside the head.
Very disappointed.
We're sorry you had that experience. Some times the stock line has dried out. Restring it with new Stihl line, I guarantee it will fix your problem
is it suitable for stihl FS230, because i dont see in the model show?
That’s not American model, can’t say for sure
Will this fit the FS161? I don't see this model mentioned in the specs.
Thanks for this informative video. Was a great help.
Thanks for watching and the comment, that really helps us to keep making these
Will it fit on a fs90r
Yes
I don’t like it at all. Mine feeds line out too fast and sometimes gets wrapped up. Any tips?
95% of the time it’s the line, buy new line preferably Stihl brand line and it should solve your problems
Can you use smaller line 2.00mm not stihl ?
I’m sure it would work fine
Iv had problems with these heads
They either let 5o much line out or let one side out completely
@@TheMillieruby I made another video on all the best Line Head options I know. Maybe that will help.
You can watch it here: th-cam.com/video/nIr2t-bIj4k/w-d-xo.html
To easily wrap, smear the walls of the case with a little grease and it will be easy to wrap
That's good advice. Thank you for sharing. We're sure this would be useful for the viewers of this channel.
Does it fit on a Honda commercial
I am trying to get one of those in my country there not available
@@mainstreetmower I live in Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean the website isn't available in my reigon right now my old trimmer head is about shot it won't close properly
Great !!! Going to buy one!
Enjoy!
the head is way too bulky for me i dont like it at all i put it in my extra bag. i bought a 25-2 and will use it instead.
As long as it's not thin trimmer line
Can you bump it on the ground for the string to get longer?
Yes
@@mainstreetmower Just bought one and the bump has not worked once. And the string was properly installed. Taking this back to hardware store....
@@rudianger123 We had exactly the same problem. We asked the salesman to demonstrate the bump head for us, but he did not have time!
hi i have the fs 120r in the spec it show the 120 but not the 120r. Really a shame it look very nice
These will all fit in a FS120R, that’s a rare unit!
@@mainstreetmower here in Italy not all all it's one of the most selling Product :)
I didn't see the FS 74 on that list, but I DO have the 25-2 installed, so can I still put the 26-2 on my FS 74?
Then yes, it would be the same thread, thanks
Will that fit on the FS40c? >>>>>>>>>>>>>please someone?
Not the 26-2 but the 6-2 has the functionality and it will fit
