1:45 I hear your critique about rF2's FFB being "too detailed" on higher end hardware, but having had both the DD1 and the SC2 Pro, I can say this is only a problem with the Fanatec unit. Specifically, a problem with the lack of filters/options available. I remember the kerbs specifically feeling really sharp on the DD1. The SC2 feels wonderful.

Agreed, owning a DD2 and a SC2 Pro...filter/options can actually used very effectively in SC2 Pro... DD2 settings do not help much. I can set up the SC2 Pro in rfactor2 and having a mind-blowing driving experience (not with all cars though, lot of content crap on rf2!).
ACC btw. sucks so bad regarding FFB, there is nothing to save there with any wheelbase or settings. I assume the physic engine is pretty good now, but the FFB is nothing like real car feels in any situation. No planted feel, no nimbleness... it is more like driving a buggy on a funfair autodrome.

Honestly this is one of your best videos ever, usually i watch youtube videos on my secondary screen while browsing internet on the other but throughout this video i was watching closely, i have to admit i havent seen all of your videos but most of them. I know that you are extremely passionate about rf2 and im happy to hear that you also acknowledge its flaws as well. I consider myself acc fanboy but i think at degree as you are rf2 fanboy and i know that acc is not perfect but damn its probably the best gt3/gt4 simulator package on the market right now. What i wish for acc is to improve online experience even further as expanded online daily events, more scheduled races. Besides muiltiplayer i would also like to see contact model to be improved as well, even for mutliplayer and single player currently its functional but barely, raceroom contact between cars is the best especially online and it would be perfect if kunos could nail that one as well as raceroom did.
Also I would like to remind that kunos could do whole TC/TCR/TCX/TCA classes and few cup cars as M240iR and MX5 cup. As for tracks they have big selection as well like SRO asia/america regions and even crazy tracks as Macau. I know they probably need to do all the paper work and arrangements to be able to produce more licensed content such as mentioned earlier but at least its completely possible.

I've driven the other sims and own most except for iRacing & ACC (although I might get it now they've polished it) and they all have something to offer. For example driving ACC the sound and visuals are really great, Ams2 can bring a grin to your face with its inherently fun feel (until the AI wipes it right off) rF2 lacks in audio and visual fidelity but it drives like no other, the FFB and that tire superlative tire model, whatever else I drive I always find myself thinking "this would be better in rF2" that said, I haven't tried ACC recently and I expect it's much better now with the 5 point tire model plus general polish. Unless you want to play MP, rF2 with all it's compromises is still the stand out sim, until someone figures out how to shoehorn that tire model and FFB into a sim that looks and sounds like ACC. I had high hopes for Ams2 but...

Cranked ABS & very low TC (since these systems aren't simulated very realistically). Rear wing as low as possible (so car is sliding around every corner), balanced by nearly detaching the rear sway bar. Tyre pressures at minimum, and camber as low as you can have it. Minimum ride height, since bottoming out isn't really a problem.

    Excellent video, as per normal.
These are my two favourite sims. I'm using a T300rs with the Ferrari rim and T3PA pro pedals.
    I'm a huge RF2 critic.
I don't like the interface, even the beta u.i. is absolutely awful, forcing you to trawl through loads of stuff to find the content you need, particularly if you have a lot of mods installed.
Mods are both a strength and weakness, with some mods being really good and others being awful.
The price of official content is far too high (imho) and is nearing iRenting levels on some occasions, yet despite all of this, when I load up Nords with the Ferrari or Vantage (or even the BMW) gte's I'm completely blown away.
It feels fantastic and I never get the feeling that I've been unfairly penalised when I lose control (which is often) lol.
S-l-o-w loading, even from a solid state drive.
I just wish they'd get their arses (I'm English, not American) in gear and get this terrible mess of a U.I. sorted out. After all, they've had long enough!
ACC just does everything really well.
It drives fantastic and I love the GT3 and GT4 classes, they are my favourites (along with GTE).
Graphically, it blows RF2 out of the water BUT you need a decently specced pc to see it in all it's beauty.
I'm like plenty of others and would kill to get a copy of the Nords for this sim and that's where it's biggest weakness lies.
As it's official content only I just can't see any of the classic tracks coming.
Driving wise I don't think it feels quite as good as RF2 but it's very close.
Add on content is very reasonably priced!
Super fast loading meaning you're up and running in next to no time.
To sum up, both awesome feeling sims but it's far easier to load up acc than RF2

I played a lot of GT Legends and GTR2 and they where incredible good sim racers that where just toped from rFactor. at this time rFactor where the king and Assetto Corsa was the spiritual succecor of the GTR2 series while SimBim where a little gone wired ways and made RaceRoom based on Race07 what had a descent feel, but some people saied, that they where a little bit too arcady for a sim.
I am glad, that sim racing is going in a direction that is quite nice and i hope that kudos split AC in 2 series, ACC as the Pro GT series and AC as modable and more for everythingelse solution, if it is understandable what i meant.

I've not finished the video yet, but I didn't want to get distracted and forget to post. How can you make a meaningful comparison between the two when using completely different FOV (as well as additional head movement settings in ACC)?
In my experience, changing the FOV even within the same game can alter my perception of how a car handles and that in turn affects how I drive. For example, when using a lower FOV I tend to make more micro-adjustments with the steering wheel because subtle track details are more obvious and the affect of those micro-adjustments are more pronounced. On the other hand, when using a wider FOV, I tend to steer more smoothly as I can see the overall line through the corner more clearly and when I make corrections I place more emphasis on the throttle than on steering.

@@thegoalie5233 Personally, I think that the fact the two numbers are comparable is ridiculous. The upgrade in enjoyment from not racing to racing for $2000 is a huge jump for me. Whereas the marginal enjoyment gained from, say, a $300 TM TX wheel to a $2000 DD wheel, or from my used smartphone SimDashboard setup to a $900 AIM Sim screen, is not as great. (An upgrade, absolutely) So money spent for marginal excess utility like that is ridiculous to me. Of course, some people have oodles of cash to spend. It would strike me as odd if they didn't spend a little on real racing. And this all started with the YT'er's seemingly silly comment that he appreciates a $40 piece of software more and more with each THOUSAND he spends on his rig. Hi Ermin, I am a noob (sim and in real life driving), so I struggle with this question in terms of evaluating the driving model/experience of sims.
Would the theoretical "perfect" most realistic sim be fun? Would it be considered the best? And finally, and this may be more straight-forward, would it be "easier" to drive than the best sims today? And if so, is that better?

    • @andreasotto1977
      @andreasotto1977 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I would say "it depends", but I tend towards "the more realistic, the more fun". Of course, realistic physics include uncomfortable moments like Ermin explained: A car bottoming out in T1 will send you in a spin, and a car unsettled by the curbs in the "no chicane chicane" will be a handful.
This can be a very frustrating experience at first, and there are titles on the market that ignore these aspects and let you just ride the curbs, resulting in more fun at first.
But I am pretty convinced that every imperfection in the physics model leaves space for bugs that (at least) annoy you, because bugs (and inaccurate physics design) lead to unexpected behaviour.
Because while an accurate physics engine can be frustrating at times, it also adds predictability and security, because the next lap the car will behave the same and you have a chance to avoid the error - and this is important - very much by instinct.
In the last years I went from Forza to Project Cars to AC to ACC, and with every title I preferred the respective physics model over its predecessor's, not because it was "easier" to drive, but more predictable and understandable. When I make a mistake, I mostly know why it happened and learn how to avoid it the next time.
And that's where the fun begins; when you drive a virtual car on the (either yours or the car's ;)) limit and you can be sure: If you lose it, it was all your fault which you can improve on, opposed to some funky physics engine quirks you can do nothing about.

    • @Ermz
      @Ermz  3 ปีที่แล้ว

James Baldwin has said that you get more sensory information in the real car, leading to it being easier to drive in some ways. So the 'most realistic' sim would only be easier to drive if those same forces were conveyed to the driver in some meaningful way.

The fact that you can compensate for low downforce settings by removing the rear anti rollbar is not an error in the simulation of the aerodynamic effects but only a question of the given values. If the loss of grip due to the reduced downforce is smaller or equal to the gain in grip due to the reduced wheel load difference at the rear axle, then this is a normal and real process.
Without insight into the correspondingly stored values regarding contact pressure X at wing position Y a correct evaluation of the simulation is not possible at all. The fact that the grip level is higher at low tyre pressure is also physically correct, as the contact patch is simply at its greatest. Even in Formula 1, tricks were used in which the rims and brakes were heated up before the FIA checked the tyre pressure, so that the specified minimum pressure was reached, in order to be able to drive to the race with a lower starting pressure.
    in garman: www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/formel-1/mercedes-geheimnis-entlarvt-erste-fotos-vom-reifen-heiz-trick/
    english: www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/4q8t1e/mercedes_secret_revealed_first_pictures_of_their/
In the DTM, too, the drivers drove for a while with less than one bar of air pressure until this was prohibited for safety reasons.
This brings us to the point where rFactor2 has a flaws, there are simply no tyre failures due to low air pressure. Thermal wear, however, is already simulated, i.e. due to lower pressure the tyre in rFactor2 ages faster due to the effects of heat. The system in ACC, where a minimum pressure must be reached for optimum grip, is not correct, because this minimum pressure is not an indication of optimum grip, but of the operational safety of the tyre, which is a compromise between grip and durability of the tyre.
