Coming to Otis, I think he was never meant to be the best dude in the series, however, as a protagonist, the showrunners needed to make his arc progressive and him becoming a better version of himself. In a sense, all characters in the show get a resolution. Meave embraces her greatness, tells of Mr. Molloy and continues on her path to become a writer. Jean embraces being a mum and makes a good plan as to how to juggle her motherhood and career. Aimee heals or is on a path to healing from her sexual assault. Eric decides to use his faith and his sexuality to bridge the gap between the conservative church and a more modern and inclusive world. Ruby gets both over Otis and O. Even O gets a redemption in a way, yet our main character ends the show being even worse than in the beginning. Sad, alone, insecure and maybe even a bit bitter. If the show was about growth, acceptance and coming to terms with changes in life, Otis is the only character which, at least in my eyes doesn't get this arc. You're correct, I think his arc would have been better if his whole relationship with Meave collapsed as they really never seemed to be a match fully. I think Ruby was always a better choice for him, or, even if the show decided to go in the direction of Ruby's closure, him remaining alone, but with a new sense of understanding why this is the case. What I'm saying, his ending should have been more hopeful like everyone's.
this is the first s4 sex ed video I’ve seen that points out how mr groff’s sex scene with the other teacher feels extremely close to being unconsensual. I found it so uncomfortable to watch considering it was definitely meant to be played for laughs, but it goes against everything the show is about. I’m really glad I wasn’t the only one who found this extremely inconsistent with the shows messaging, and just weird to watch
the worst thing about season 4 is it pretends that it isn’t the final season. instead of focusing in the emotions of the characters, like meave and otis for instance, the writers cut it short, and then shift to a scene completely unrelated. it just leaves you hanging and unsatisfied. i would have understood it had it not been the last season, as they had been doing that in the first three season.
I just started the video so sorry if he says this, but the writers didn’t know it was the last season until it was like 80% written so they were under the impression it’s not the last season until the very end which is why it changes course right near the end and feels rushed
An asexual writer that was brought in to help write O opened up that a lot of important things were cut, which resulted in O being shown as very manipulative. Originally, she and Otis were both "worse" but a lot of Otis scenes were cut out. I think thats the reason why see seems ambigous between villain and complicated but redeemable character
fell in love with this show after Season 1 and I was so excited to see it grow into something great but sadly I was very disappointed. To be honest Season 1 is the only season I actually enjoyed. After season 1 the show got way too cartoonish and Otis didn’t even seem like the same character. Honestly I don’t even remember season 3 and season 4 tried to shove so many storylines & characters down our throats when most people didn’t even care about these new characters or their stories. Like every episode something new for a character would pop up (like Jackson’s cancer scare for example) and there was absolutely no way to flush everything out so things just seemed rushed and pointless. Speaking of pointless what were the writers trying to do with Maeve’s “writer” plot line??? Was I the only one that thought the teacher or maybe the other student would try to steal her story idea?? But that ended up being nothing. Also why was Adam in this season? Adam is probably one of the most complicated & interesting characters and they did absolutely nothing with him! Also was this new school meant to be satire? Because the comedy did not land. In what universe is there a school where 90% of the student body is queer, gay, bisexual, disabled, trans, nonbinary, and neurodivergent? Did the writers not realize that when you make EVERYONE a minority that erases the importance of diversity? It was cringy at best and just straight up lazy/offensive at worst. Honestly this season was a huge let down and kind of pointless.
