I have the AC0 308 model running air stones in a smallish garden pond. The air output dropped and after watching your video took it apart. One of the valve screws had come loose and the rubber cover was loose thereby reducing air flow. However, I noticed on this model there is an earth strap to the casing and 3 core electric lead. Thanks for the video - very useful.
Well Clive, A few months ago i stumbled upon one of your videos while looking at teardowns of cheap Chinese electronics. upon watching a few of your videos i subscribed and continue to look forward to your new videos, and after all these months i finally decided to check out your website. and jee, as someone who is just getting into messing with electronics, thanks alot! both your videos and guides on your website have taught me alot! Keep up the good videos, and thanks for making them!
Tip: You can use vacuum sealers (with vacuum button that only sucks air out from the bag and does not seal it) and a plastic case to make a ghetto vacuum chamber. Most of the vacuum sealers have a pump and pressure sensor inside.
I have a very similar one. It's the Model: ACQ-005, 70watts/Output 70 liters per minute/230volts+Earth connection. It's also a fishpond pump,BUT.......it is also a ideal pump for inflatable items like PVC air matresses, beachballs etc.. Surprising too: It has enough pressure to POP such things too if you're not careful! ;-)
Hey cool, i also use these kind of compressors for my inflatable PVC toys. They have indeed more than enough power to pop these, so i uses a microcontroller, a solid state relay and some sensors to control it. It's also got a touchscreen for easy setup and different programs.

Just bought a Hailea Aco 208. Found your video very informative should I need to replace any parts in a year or 2 or simply give it a strip down & clean during the winter months. Thanks.
Thanks for posting.. I've never seen the insides of an air pump before. It is interesting. I have an air-moving application, and now I know what I'm getting into...
Do you think enlarging the air inlet holes would allow for quieter/cooler operation? Are there any modifications you think might improve the performance of this particular pump design?
Thanks for the video. I was very happy when I found it. I have the same type and the air amount has dropped to half. The rubbers seems ok. Do you have any idea what can cause it? Can the stroke of the piston decrease because of any electric problem? Thanks in advance.
I'm wondering if you could double the pumps out put by removing the diode and adding a bridge rectifier on the input? Might need a stronger spring too. Also, that thing really should be earthed there is no double insulation.
If you put a bridge rectifier the play would go from one-zero-negative one. That means from the original play of neutral-backward (the spring pushes it back to neutral) to forward-neutral-backward. You will have to redesign the whole thing. Probably make a back to back piston. Kinda putting two pumps on each other's rear.
The operation during half of the cycle is to give the other half for time for the piston to return. Going full wave would greatly shorten the stroke and give inferior performance.
I've got a Chinese one tats the same but with a different name..ACO-003...working 24/7 for the last 7 yrs powering two 4" air stones in a pond..never opened it n never cleaned it...only thing I've noticed is the air flow has dropped a bit...but still good enough not to replace...guess with Chinese stuff you've got to get lucky :))
Hi there Clive. I have a question. If you are to increase the diameter of those four little holes at the back for air intake, would that affect the air flow positively or negatively or have no affect on it at all? Thanks for the tear down.
I remember a while back I took mine apart to drill and tap the end out and fit a new nipple as the supplied one was tiny and the hose kept popping off, looking at the reed valves I thought meh nothing special there and reassembled it without paying much attention at all, today I find myself wondering what is actually inside one of the noisy little extremely low pressure beasts and discovered this. I am about to attack mine again just to attach a pressure gauge to it and find what the actual pressure is, I use mine as air assist for a laser cutter. Well I just checked with a pressure gauge and the absolute max pressure is 3 PSI, when allowed to vent even a tiny amount the pressure drops to under 1 PSI so no pumping up the bike tyres with this one.
Hi Clive, I have a similar pump boyu 009 and I mounted it on a wall and now it only works intermittently or not at all. Any idea what's going on with it?
If the cylinder can move freely inside then it's most likely a cable breakage due to the vibration. That could be the flex where it enters the unit (wiggle it to see if it cuts in and out) or it could be where it connects onto the windings inside.
Geez, you would think they would have some consideration for the poor generators and make that thing to run at 100Hz. A stronger spring, a little less mass and a short instead of a diode. Maybe a bit of a different winding on the coils.
It would probably not be cost effective, but this is very simple, so yes, it can easily be repaired. Just cut the old wire, count the windings and replace with similar copper wire.
I would like to know how much and where to get them as I suffer from chronic asthma and emphasima and a normal nebulizer sets me back around the $350 mark for the same performance
I would give it a go over with cleaner and rubber preserver, same as all air equipment for use in air supply in this area. If you think its viable to keep collecting brand new nebulizers so I dont end up in hospital I am sorry to say I canr keep it up as the rest of my medications comme to $150 per fortnight. I was born in the era when the tested aall meds including steroids of all kinds leaving me with a lung capacity of nearly 2 ltrs and heart of 1.7 times its normal size, my heart rate of my last attack I set the record for our little hospital 225 beats per limit so equipment failur is something that concerns me.
What do you mean I dont follow the statement as to accent altered typing as I am Australian with dual citizenship USA, I dont see any reason on typing in enunciation of either.?
Hurts himself to help himself, its logical .You complain of all this testing on your generation and now your poisoning yourself daily. You can't win at this point.
Most of the noise is coming out of the air outlet. I built an airtight silencer for that out of a wastepipe and some foam i drilled holes into. It works really well and makes the device much more silent. That will have no effect, if you use the compressor for blowing air into water, but i use it for inflatable pool toys and other things. I use the 100 Watts version of a similar compressor. It also helps, to put the device on some foam to damp the vibrations. It is still very audible one floor below. I am looking forward to trying the 200 W version that should be much faster.

Hi Clive, a small input hose on that model makes it's operation much less noisy.
TED6667 especially when adding a few inches of hose to it. Cut the sound of mine by what seems like half.

Você sabe qual a referência desse diodo. ? Eu retirei aqui para trocar e perdi.
sub 0.5 power factor sounds like a great design.
i've got one that is overheating and stoping making air, some tip ?
Thanks
nice teardown and analysis. Do you happen to know the pressure limits on this pump? certainly high volume at 0 psi, but will it pump to 1bar or 2bar?
Not sure its rated output, but it's only for low pressure.
why such small intake holes? could it help performance if these were enlarged?
very interesting video. thanks for sharing

I have an ACO that got extremely loud and stopped putting out air. It appears to be the Guide Shaft that I need. Any ideas?
Exelente brothet graciad
How do you know when you would have to replace the diaphragm besides the obvious signs of damage? Would you replace after a certain time frame?
Thanks
It may depend on the operating conditions. If it started operating with lower output then it would be worth exploring.
Were you turning the screwdriver clockwise to unscrew the first 4 screws or was that an illusion?

Mine seazed up but despte taking apart and cleaning, the piston won't move without some effort from me and my plyers (sorry, meant 'my pliers and I').

They may be sized for maximum efficiency already.
i planed to take mine apart when it got here in the mail now i dont have to lol thanks
Do you still have it? What happens if you run it, or one of the little solenoid pumps, from a VFD? Is the spring/mass tuned to 50Hz?
Not sure how effective that would be.
Great video 😊
Can we convert it to produce vacuum?
it is the same pump used in soldering station.

These compressors are not made for high pressures, but for putting air into a pond for the fish.
So 3 psi with fully blocked port. Interesting.
I got one on Ebay but it have the copper barb tube thing, where and what size is the tread? please help
hey look it will draw a vacuum if you stick it in a box and let it push the air out for your diy bubble tubes
Use a dimmer to adjust the air flow
just about to buy one of these for air assist on the k40 generic laser, wondering how the diode affects PF
Anything that runs half wave is going to have a weird power factor.
Muito legal seu vídeo!

how to make it silent
Difficult. Try a foam lined enclosure, but allow for airflow.

I don't like your tone, Holmes!
what happens if the water backflow? will it goes inside the motor and destroy the pump?
Always fit a one-way valve if your pump is located below the surface.
Does it have inbuilt NRV (non return valve) system
I'd recommend an external one.
