A tuner that suggest to not tune your car and enjoy it for a bit… This guy has integrity and a true understanding of vehicle characteristics and dynamics.
Exactly. The person you want to tune your car needs to be a fellow car enthusiast. Only they truly understand. It's not about the money or Individual success...it's about building a better community with your work. I truly believe in that process. 🤘
Thank you for coming by for this latest episode. I am working on getting this in podcast form for those who want to just listen. Keep the questions coming!
This was awesome, thanks for sharing! I've put the STI front splitter, strut tower brace, and previous gen's wing on my VB... though after dropping money on the extended warranty, I've been reluctant to tune the car. I'd love to eventually be somewhere between 330-360. I'll have to find out if my local dealer is mod-friendly 😄
Jeez Louise great episode, you asked all the questions! Loved the question about oil, and cleared up some things for me. The elevation change because that was one of the reasons I was looking at a AWD car to get out to Tahoe, going from sometimes below sea level to well above to 5k+ft. Also great question picking out a top mount vs front mount. I run E85 on my FRS, and love the price difference with 91 reaching close to 5$ and E85 running 2.79$. And while I was looking at the GRC for so long these episodes really helped me make the switch. Wish Subaru had a referral program like Tesla, lol. Again keep up the great work look forward to the next episode. I do have a question, have you or has anyone ran a turbo blanket. I’ve seen some options out on parts stores, though they are for the VA, but also include the VB. I know that the stock intercooler suffers from some heatsoak and would the turbo blanket on top of a ETS or Cobb top mount remedy or prevent any higher intake temps. Figure with summer coming soon enough might be preventive maintenance mod.
I gotta say. The #TunerTalk just keeps getting better. Honestly it's the tuners who join me and the community who provides the questions. It's a group effort.
When I had my A90 Supra I also changed to a thicker oil due to oil burning issues that everyone was having. Once I went up in weight I stopped burning oil even tho i was pushing 500 hp and Tq to the wheels on a tune.
I feel like I should put this information out there for people to see. I don't belong to any groups or have Facebook or anything like that. I live in Va and I have a 22 wrx with about 3500 miles on it now. Since I've purchased the car I've had a leaking windshield(that had to be resealed) dashboard above steering wheel is making annoying noices while driving and I had a fuel pump replaced at 2800 miles. I have no modifications done at moment and I'm glad because that fuel pump might have been an issue. Dashboard noise might have something to do with them fixing windshield idk. Thanks for your videos and info TEAM HONEYCOMB!!!
That's amazing! Stock clutch? Do you guys launch it a lot? I'm coming up to 3000molea on my 362hp/374tq tune. I have a 400/450 tune as well that I've pushed a bit for race nights.
@HeavyMetalWRX to be honest...I don't launch it alot. Weather is an issue here right now anyways. Our autocross group usually makes it so awd cars can't have a launch advantage. But we also weren't able to make this power until after last season. I'll be tossed a comp stg2 clutch in it. We love those for the fa20s.
@@baxleysspeedshop ahh ok, out autocross here I believe still has launches so it's part of something I need to practice. I'm hoping Cobb can drop that launch control soon. I still haven't figured out how to launch this car with repeated success.
I love that you do tuner talk. You should reach out to my tuner. Daniel Florez at Floreztuning and get the take on tuning ecutek VS Cobb. Also, what do you think about the big ibr project where they built the motor and decided to use the brz manifold from the FA20 on the new vb? I'm curious to see the gains. They kept the stock trans so we should see the limit of that soon. I'd love to see ibr on tuner talk too. I'm not sure if it counts because they don't tune themselves but to see what they have in the works and their R&D. Things they've found with the motor to be weak points after building. It would be pretty informative.
Absolutely love this series! I have a question to ask. On the Accessport what are the things we should monitor and what are the values that fall with in the normal range.
Very informative. This is great advice for anyone with a 2022 Wrx. My observations and opinion are spot on with this advice from Graham. Thank you Guys.
I absolutely love the tuner talks! Now adding to the engine oil one, i live in canada, i see consistant -35 celcius for weeks straight on cold starts. I see they recommend 5w30 for the engine protection. Could the tuners see a euro 0w30 being just as good as a 5w30 given the specs are different? Thanks!!!!
Fantastic series. 2 questions. How to you mix the e85 with gas , which one do you put in first and how do they mix up. Ask the next tuner what they think of the verticooler. Is it the best top mount. If all you are doing a pro tune with 350 hp and only taking 10 second blasts on the street, is there any need for an intercooler. I do live florida.
As soon as you ask the oil question I knew what Graham was gonna say. That will ruffle some feathers but he is correct. If you are beating on these things a GF-6 (look it up) 5W-30 oil is the way to go. Oh, you going to post this on Reddit?
@@boostedperformancetuning Thank you! I remember tuning 4G63s in the summer and blowing off intercooler pipes in the winter... it was a bit more crude, heh.
Thanks for doing these interviews. If it hasn’t been asked yet, I’d like to know if there’s research/experimentation being done on raising the rev limit of the FA24.
When Graham tuned mine he did raise the rev limiter by a few 100 rpm. I want to say all the tuners are doing that. Even the Cobb ots raises the limiter about 300rpm or so to provide a grace shifting point. Stock is very unforgiving.
Yet another awesome Tuner Talk. Thanks for fielding my question from the previous episode. Much appreciated. I have another. I want to add an upgraded IC, and charge pipe to accompany my CAI on my untuned fa24. I’m going to get an e-tune, but I don’t want to get it in between each upgrade, but rather at the end to save $. Is it safe to run a CAI, upgraded IC and charge pipe while slowly adding parts on a stock tune or should I just do it all at once? Thanks!
The suggestion will always be to have a tune ready to go and not drive around much or at all with parts. The CAI ( if ETS) can be used with the sleeve and so can the charge pipe and IC..irs just not the preferred method if you wait too long. You can always talk to your tuner to get a base map for all your parts so you have it. This way as soon as you install your parts you can flash the new map and be confident you won't mess anything up. That's the beauty of an etune. Whoever you go with just
On the topic of FMIC thickness, what is your opinion on cooling issues? Whether it is oil temp or coolant temp. The FA20s definitely run hotter with a FMIC. We autocross our '22 currently with an ETS top mount. Intake temps and oil temps are a concern.
On the issue of dealers and mods, just be honest and up front. Modding heavily, breaking the car and blaming Subaru for not honoring warranty is just theft from the rest of us. Subaru passes on those costs to future buyers. If you are honest and up front, they won't suspect you are hiding something and will work with you to resolve any warranty claims, within reason. JB4s are traceable. Having a blown engine with an ECU record of heavily pulled timing, ultra-high EGTs and weird fueling maps per speed of car are dead giveaways. My dealer said that any thing was OK, except intake/tune. That would void any engine warranty for failure, but not for engine parts not related to power (bad PCV, bad coil pack, etc.).
Thought of another question... is any one intake that's available currently (AEM, BMS, ETS) proving to provide more whp than the others? I see alot just mentioning ETS (I am hesitant to buy from them as the whole 'no tune needed fiasco'), but have read the BMS provided more...nothing on AEM yet. Im sure cobb and perrin will release one in time as well...might just need more time
From what I was told the burger intake and ETS intake are performing very similarly. That's definitely a good question. I'll see what the tuners have to say.
Yea the O2 sensor doesn't detect what it needs to properly so it throws a CEL. Once that happens it turns off safety features to force you to resolve the issue. Cobb AP does allow you clear codes but it's best to figure out the issue.
So i tend to drive my car sort of hard everyday. Not redline but I do drive spirited with it , so it sees 4K-4.5K rpm’s a lot. Does that mean I should use 5w-30 instead of 0w-20? My car has not burned any oil in its 3K mile changes and is always at full.
Because we have 93 in most areas here that's the main tune I have. We have 91 as well and could get a tune based on that, just Incase I drove through a state that didn't have 93.
