Seems the most useful video I've seen so far about this. Other clips seem to be all about removing all the concrete as well & restarting from scratch.

Interested to see this video having struggled with lump hammer and cold chisel numerous times recently so may invest in 1500w breaker - thanks for the tip! One thing I do take issue with is your comment at 4:17 "Put your pile of earth back in..." Earth in contact with the wood is the CAUSE of the wet rot in the first place! Far better to have the concrete protrude ABOVE the earth, especially if trowelled off as a truncated pyramid, to make a water run-off. Concrete isn't pretty but it will keep the above ground/below ground interface predominantly dry.

There is a better way to lift out these out. Bore out the wooden stump. Use an ibeam as a lever. Set the fulcrum on one end of ibeam and a hydraulic car jack on the other end with a chain securely fitted to the post and ibeam. Now jack the post out of the ground. Found this the best method on getting a washing line concrete base out. It should work for fence posts.

yep ive been using a chisel and sledge hammer, it sucks. I dont think i can even use a jack hammer not enough room in the hole to reach the bottom with it.

Concrete does make it very difficult to get an old post out. I'm just going to bang in a metal spike with a place to put the new post.

You are joking just wiggle it! I have just spent 3 hours trying to get a post stump out of concrete, it's still waiting for me to have another go tomorrow.

You got lucky with pulling that post out. And I wouldn’t just place my new post back in the square hole it won’t hold up

That’s no typical. Most concrete embedded posts are deep

Why on earth did the guy before put so much postcrete in?
The posts rot, you don't want to make them too difficult to remove.
