  • The latest version of the G-Class has completely ditched traditional engines in favor of an all-electric setup. Instead of a conventional combustion engine, this new Geländewagen is equipped with four electric motors, one for each wheel, enhancing its off-road capabilities. This electric variant is even more adept at navigating rugged terrains compared to its gasoline-fueled counterparts.
Visually, the electric G-Class maintains the iconic design of its predecessors but incorporates significant technological advancements under the hood. The quartet of motors delivers a whopping 579 horsepower and an impressive 859 pound-feet of torque, surpassing the AMG G63 in power output. This electric powerhouse demonstrates its strength immediately with torque available on demand, a characteristic of electric vehicles.
Performance-wise, the electric G-Class can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. Its top speed is limited to 112 mph, not typically a selling point for an off-road vehicle. What stands out is its enhanced off-road functionality. It boasts a maximum water fording depth of 33.5 inches and can tackle slopes angled up to 35 degrees. Its ground clearance and angular measurements are configured to handle severe off-road conditions.
This model includes advanced features such as a low-range gear setting, a crawl mode for navigating tough terrains, and a unique "G-Turn" ability, which allows the vehicle to pivot in place. Additionally, it utilizes virtual differential locks and torque vectoring to improve traction, along with adaptive dampers and a specialized steering function to help maneuver in tight spots.
Underneath, the G580 with EQ Technology is built with a robust frame that houses a large 116.0-kilowatt-hour battery, protected by a combination of carbon and other durable materials. While the exact range of the vehicle remains unspecified, it supports rapid charging up to 200 kilowatts, allowing for a substantial charge in just over half an hour.
The exterior of the electric G-Class keeps the boxy, robust aesthetic of the traditional model but with a solid, light-emitting grille and optional modifications like a storage box in place of the rear-mounted spare tire. This box is designed to hold essentials such as the charging cable and tools, providing practicality without compromising on weight.
Interior features draw heavily from the classic G-Class design, including dual 12.3-inch screens and a passenger-side dashboard grab handle. The "transparent hood" feature, enhanced by a 360-degree camera, allows drivers to see the terrain under the front of the vehicle, improving visibility and safety.
For its 2025 debut in the U.S., the electric G-Class will be available as the Edition One in exclusive colors and with distinctive blue accents. The model also introduces a synthetic engine noise feature, "G-Roar," which emulates the sound of a traditional engine to retain some of the classic G-Class experience.
Mercedes hints at a premium price for this electric version, reflecting its advanced features and capabilities. Additionally, an upgrade to the battery system is expected within a year of its launch, promising a significant increase in range due to improved battery technology.
This transformation of the G-Class into an electric vehicle represents a bold step forward in combining traditional luxury and rugged capability with modern, environmentally friendly technology.

Mercedes, what are you doing?!?! BYD U8 is in some ways more interesting than chariot. Could you install a gasoline generator or add a battery weighing from a four- to six-cylinder engine to the hood?! It's a little behind
