That whole "permanent upgrade" mechanic has even found it's way into manga and anime. Been binge reading one about a Skeleton that ends up dying (or dying again, whatever) but is somehow returned to an earlier point in time. He does this a bit but begins to realize that the skills he had are still there. He doesn't retain equipment, but abilities carry. His "respawn" point even changes a few time (although it's unclear how or why).
I’d replace Tunic with Strange Horticulture. I’ve been hearing about Tunic from everywhere, but nobody talks about how great Strange Horticulture is. Try it, it’s amazing.
ghostwire tokyo needs to be on this list. it came out at about the same time as elden ring, and was completely forgotten about by most players. it got mediocre reviews from reviewers who did not really understand the game. for fans of japanese horror, mythology, urban legends, and creepypastas, the game is absolutely LOADED with references to other stories etc. most of these references go RIGHT over the head of a lot of players, and i really feel like they are missing out on a lot of what makes the game special. almost every single enemy, sidequest, item, etc in the game has some kind of lore connection to other japanese horror stories. it's definitely a game that is made for a certain audience, but if you are into this type of stuff, it's absolutely incredible. it deserved way more attention than it got. elden ring basically sucked all the oxygen out of the room for 3 months and nobody talked about anything else lol
Do you know of any TH-cam videos that break down those connections? I'm interested in the game and know a decent amount of Japanese mythology but not really much of the other things you mentioned.
I bought it at full price & felt ripped off. I refunded and waited for the inevitable 50% off sale which happened as quickly as expected. This is a 20 dollar game.
I had to rewind just to make sure I wasnt hearing things in a rpg having a chance to be a OP'd chef is just what id need in my personal time after being stuck in a kitchen having to work i never thought people would fantising of kicking arse or doing whatever it is u do in that game as a chef nuts left me a bit in awe of such awsomeness respect to those guys
1:43 I’ve never heard of either game but I applaud the creators taking a chance like that with the sequel. Sequels tend to disappoint me, whether it’s movies or games or whatever sequels tend to just amplify the most memorable parts of the original and slam you over the head with them. Completely flipping the premise like this though is brilliant. I’d much rather see a company roll the dice than rehash the same thing
My dad loves the Sniper Elite series. When Sniper Elite 5 came out, he didn’t waste time getting it, and has been playing it every time he comes home every weekend after being on the road for the week.
I would like to mention Ctrl Alt Ego for this list too, it only just came out like last week but there was a lot of buzz about its demo from Steam Next Fest. Still there was barely any coverage on release. It's really fun and interesting, for people who don't know, it's a sci-fi immersive sim very stylistically similar to Portal and System Shock and mechanically similar to Watch Dogs and Deus Ex with a lot intriguing puzzles. It's fairly cheap rn on steam so do check it out
Nice to see AI: The Somnium Files - Nirvana Initiative getting some love. Both it and its predecessor are spectacular games that more people should really give a try!
Also for Rogue Legacy 2 you can find weapons in "stores" where, regardless of your class, you can change your basic one for that one, keeping your class special passive (Boxer doesnt take contact damage for example). Also you have armor sets with bonuses Each of your heirs can have unique traits like ome that makes you see enemies as black sillouetes or one where your enemies are censored, or even a pacifist one (+gold obtained but cant damage anyone). And the entire "story" is reparted in 8 loops (NG+8) each loop you can make your challenge even greater, more enemies, a bigger world, elite enemies, etc and even alternate version of bosses (that require a special thing to discover and unlock). And even a secret boss fight that people that played the first game would probably like.
One thing that's not mentioned about tunic is the soundtrack and sound that's used for the boss fights, enjoyed it so much i make the game longer just cause i get distracted by just the sound and music alone.
keeping Neon White console exclusive to the switch is one of the reasons why it was overlooked, plus not too many people have talked about the game, so I assume even if it was released on every platform while it may gonna got more exposure and more people will gonna play it but it will still gonna be underrated.
I don't own a switch and to this day would only want to play Fire Emblem 3 Houses. Never got Yuzu to work for me so I wish Nintendo would do what everyone else is doing for once in their god forsaken history and release their console exclusives on PC... but whatever. They just won't ever get my money again.
Yeah it’s not that type of game that’ll succeed just on switch. I only knew it existed last week because someone streamed it but even though I have a switch I’d rather not play it on that.
I offer up Voice of Cards: The Forsaken Maiden. It's a RPG where everything is shown through cards. It's definitely a step up from the first game. Which also means a more difficult game, as I will admit to still not having beaten the final boss. It's also one of the first games from Yoko Taro that are not linked to the overarching Nier/Drakengard narrative, but who knows. lol.
The 3 of these games I've played have been great with sniper elite and rouge legacy being great sequels. However Neon White is one of my favorite games of the year my love for that game is probably higher than it ought to be it could literally be my favorite game of the year, I at least personally love it the most.
Yes! So very, very good! The story and premise sucked me right in. I loved the different player characters and NPCs, too. I wish the original board game (and its manual) weren't so pricy...
@@dorabrooks76 You can get the Deadlands d20 and Deadlands Savage World books for not much online or ordered through your local game store. I recommend them.
I have Evil Dead: The Game, and I immensely enjoy it... except for the souls-like "campaign" which is really just a challenge mode. I was't overly fond of disconnecting every random moment either, and that wasn't always caused by my xbox live deciding to suddenly cut out.
OLLIOLLI World has definitely been my game of the year, most of my other anticipated titles have taken a backseat to it lol from King of Fighters XV, Sifu, and DNF Duel yeah...it's been bad
Dude, you do know that Forza Horizon 5 had a huge launch. Grand Tourismo 7 isn’t the only major racing game this year that people were looking forward to.
The problem with Sniper Elite is it's just been the exact same ever since v2. They are solid enough games but they don't take any risks in making them. Evil Dead suffers because it's a multiplayer only game. It would have been a lot more popular if it was a single player experience.
"rogue-like" mechanics apparently started with a single game in 1993 that didn't get repeated until Dead Rising. What is it with game reviewers forgetting to credit the infinitesimal history of the genre? I also find it hilarious that Gen Z-ers enjoy pretentiously referencing a game that started a genre that didn't become popular until decades later.
Most of these feel like they aren't designed for most people. Like, I'm not really interested in any of them at full price, and even half price or less I'm only somewhat interested in AI, and would be interested in Sniper Elite if I hadn't literally played the last 3, not even finished 4, and they weren't all the same.
I’m loving Neon White, and that’s saying a lot since I usually don’t enjoy FPS games, nor am I a speedrunner. I just got it because I’m a fan of Machine Girl who made the game’s soundtrack. But everything in the game comes together nicely. Except the dialogue. The dialogue is terrible.
I didn't even know Evil Dead and Tunic were out. Not too into licensed games, I hope it's more of a PVE game than PVP, and Tunic looks like a Zelda-for-non-Nintendo-owners, similar to Multiversus (which I fucking suck at and might uninstall).
Far lone sales was one of the most amazing games up until right before the end... Like up till then it was this really good game about recovering from my mistakes and it always felt like I was about to fail... So it really felt like I was overcoming stuff.... And then I hit a point where it you don't do it perfectly you die and have to try again.... And that completely ruined the whole overcoming and rebuilding that had made the game amazing..... Took the game from best game ever to OMG I hate this game and will rant about it every chance I get.
Blaming Grid Legends failure on Elden Rings release is absolutely nonsensical, it's a completely different audience. What it actually is it that people have have enough of Codemasters releasing a game and then multiple season add ons afterwards. EVERYONE just wants the full game which is why they have a lot of success with F1. Game comes out complete. I want to buy GL but i'll wait until the inevitable GOTY version or just a cheap all in one bundle.

The permanent upgrades in rogue legacy are what define the game as a roguelite instead of a roguelike
