Always thought Kratos cinematic attacks on Perseus were particularly vicious (that stiff as fuck chokeslam, cracking his skull against the wall, drowning him etc, really dark stuff), it's as though Perseus beautiful appearance seems to bring about even more wrath from Kratos, and listen to that agonised gurgle when he becomes impaled on the hook. David Jaffe was clearly in a bad mood when coming up with this scene!
Reminds me of when Ed Norton's character beats up Jared Leto's character in Fight Club, and when asked why he did it, says "I wanted to destroy something beautiful."
I think it is something like that, Kratos rage and hatred growing to consume everything around him, hideous and beautiful alike.
Not to mention getting stabbed through the chest and still fighting on.

Perseus could’ve just climbed through the back of the building. And he could wear that helmet and that way avoid confrontation. But no he had to fight the main character.

The pillars are high up, he would've broken his legs from the fall. Even when kratos has to get down himself, he has to use the chain that Perseus's body is weighing down. It was too high up before.

@@godzillavkk he tried reasoning with theseus and hercules. he is somewhat reasonable and directly kills those he needs to kill. he told theseus to tell him how to get to the sisters of fate and warned him. he tried to convince hercules that gaining the status of a god wasn't worth it. preseus was dead set on trying to kill kratos and kratos didn't say one towards perseus.

I’ve always loved how this is one of the few boss fights in the series in which Kratos’ opponent is clearly the underdog, and yet Perseus tries every trick he has to overcome him. Even though it’s borne of arrogance, there’s something oddly admirable about Perseus’ bravery to stand and fight when he’s clearly outmatched.

@@cheetoschrist5685 Well he can always use his first Thor movie as a reference. Remember Thor in the first movie, he was arrogant at that point. Plus Chris can always change his voice to make it fit for GOW Thor, example like Kevin Sorbo as Hercules in GOW3. Kevin's Hercules is way different than Hercules in GOW, even Kevin state it. So he change it a bit to make fit for the dark take on GOW Hercules.
This is probably the only time in this series where I can say you were more op than your opponent. Perseus just lacks the brute force and muscle to take Kratos on and once his cloaking ability was taken away then it was a solid L for perseus.
And the intelligence to fight outside the water when using said cloaking ability
Don't forget the Icarus fight where he's just hopelessly falling while you beat his ass and he doesn't fight back before finally ripping off his wings so he falls to his death

Desperation can lead to destructive outcomes. In this case here we have Perseus so desperate to escape the bath house to save Andromeda that when a potential savior to his predicament came along, he thought it was a test to gain favor from the Fates.
It's kinda like that Christian story about the man who prayed for God to save him in a Hurricane. God sent many emergency workers to save him, but he denied each one because he was so set on God saving him. But when he died and asked God, "Why didn't you save me when I prayed to you?" God simply said, "I sent many people to save you, but you denied each one from doing so"

For all of you wondering why he didn't just go through the pillars to escape, its cause the arena is too high where they are. He'd break his legs instantly or at worst fall to his death. Even after you beat him you have to use the chain to climb down. And about the chain, it was too high up so Perseus can't reach it or jump and grab it to lower himself.
In other words, Perseus death is completely on him.
He could've worked together with this warrior that carries the tools that can help him escape, but instead he lets himself drown in delusions of glory.
No wonder Kratos didn't even bother saying a single word, this dude was a lost cause.

That opening scene is pure theatre. Fantastically acted. He was the only person in the series I felt bad for killing just from that performance alone. So good they don't even let Kratos interrupt it. Harry Hamlin just fucking nailed it.

as shitty as Perseus' fighting style might be, you gotta admit that this battle has one hell of amazing score. the soundtrack still pops in my head from time to time after all these years! amazing work by the team.

You don't give Perseus enough credit. Have you read his legend, or seen any of the Clash of the Titans films? Perseus is one of Greek myth's finest heroes. Plus, he's voiced by Harry Hamlin who played Perseus in one of the Clash of the Titan movies.

Weird that Perseus's shield still has the Head of Medusa on it. I mean in the mythology, he does kill Medusa, but in the GOW series, it's actually Kratos who kills her.

One of the most under-done boss fights in the series. I know it's only meant as a small cameo/homage, but I think Kratos fighting Perseus, also a son of zeus and from Clash of the Titans no less, could have been a far more impactful boss-fight.
Perseus has a helmet that makes him go invisible, a sword, and a shield. What the hell do you expect them to do

Thing is, in Greek mithology Zeus was basically a pimp. He fucked every girl he wanted while cheating on his wife. He had loads of bastard children, so it's safe to say they wouldn't even know they were brothers.

I love how the introduction to this fight is nothing more than Perseus giving a dramatic monologue while Kratos just stands there all blase. He was pretty much just going through the motions.
That or he didn't take Perseus as a serious enemy, considering what an idiot he showed himself to be by calling out where he is and using his invisibility helmet whilst in shin-deep water. Perseus is literally that pathetic: he's about as dangerous in Kratos' world as a basic mook.
