The Tx and Rx antennas should be facing the same way or you will lose power and distance because electromagnetic waves are polarized. So if the remote has the antenna sticking straight up and down from the top, the transmit antenna should also be up and down, not sideways like you had it there. It's like how everyone holds their radios sideways in movies to look cool but in real life you'll get yelled at if you have a real job that requires radios for safety because you are losing a lot of connection between the Tx and Rx when you do that. I know it'll still work for short distances, but you're giving up potential needlessly
