One time I fly with 1 airline from Osaka to Jakarta (roundtrip), the 1st flight went OK. Since I always drink warm milk in the morning, I requested it to the flight attendant and she served what i've asked for even it took quite time (yes I know about it since they need to warm it separately and I have quite a lot experiences in ordering warm milk already and I dont mind).
But, during the 2nd flight, the flight attendant just refused my request with flat face by saying "we dont serve that". His reply was fast, short and cold.
When I heard that, first that was non sense. He has a carton of milk in his cart (I ended got the cold one). Second, that was not polite. I know he's busy or so (they always been) but he could deliver a better refusal word to the passenger with better attitude as well. Third, the way he refused my order literally worsen my entire flight experience. Since my seat was his working area, I practically saw him a lot and I hate it and it brought my mood to the lowest level.
I usually saying thank you to the flight staffs after landed and about to leave the aircraft. But that time, not to him.
So, YES I think it is very essential to have a flight attendant with bright personality like jennie no matter how bad her/his mood or devastated her/his life during her/his duty. Her/his entire mood will affect the passengers as well.
Ps : i didnt mention the airlines name but it was one of the top list airlines company and still... i think they never leave the big 5 even until now.

This is so weird - I work for a company in the middle east and when they interviewed me (IT position) in US, it was absolutely the most weirdest interview I ever experienced. Just like your situation, a large portion was a stress interview. The waiting room was jam packed, and this was a very large conference room with a stage. People were there suited and booted with briefcases filled with their previous work examples and I was there with slacks and shirt and had just my resume - resume they already had. When we were all waiting in the room, people would come out of the interview room completely disheveled. One guy came out and it seemed like he went into the restroom and splashed water all over his head.
My turn came, and there were three interviewers, very cold, one sternly stared at me without providing any facial gestures to my answers. They kept interrupting me with random questions, throwing me off my train of thought. "Why wasn't it done that way" "You dont have this on your resume, why?". They were also condescending to all my comments, like "oh thats an old technology" or "we dont do it that way at all". One interviewer left in the middle of the interview, came back later. Very very cold. I tried to complement some things I found on google about their company (to show Ive some some homework on their company) and they first pretended they didnt know what I was talking about, then said, oh that, that was so long ago, we dont even do that any more. Just completely blew me off. The key was patience! Patience! Patience!
I hated that interview but kept my professionalism and by the end, I was sure I didnt get the job. At the end, they abruptly said, "okay, were done, thanks for coming". I went outside to wait for the secretary to walk me out and interviewers took a break; when they came out, it was absolutely 180 degree change. Very cordial and weirdest part, the stern looking guy being the friendliest. They asked my hobbies, how I enjoyed my previous visits to the middle east, asked if I had any friends there. I was just like what the F is wrong with these people! I never went through this type of interview before. One guy sat in a couch next to me, I told him I don't think I did a good job, and he goes, don't worry about it.
The secretary walked me out and at this time, I couldn't wait to get back on the plane and go back to my life. She asked me how I did and I said, I dont think I'm going to make it. She said, she had a rough interview and didnt think she would get the job but they called her.
2 - 3 weeks later I get the call and... life has never been the same - in every way. 7 years now and counting. The interviewers are some of my good friends at work.
I guess this stress interview is something prevalent here?

Fahed thank you for posting your comment. I thought it was very interesting! The rest of this reply is not a criticism nor am I finding fault with your comment. It would have been wonderful if you could have provided additional insight as to what was happening behind the scene and further explanations into the interviewer's thought processes. For example, explaining why they were condescending to all your comments and why they were pretending they did not know what you were talking about when you complemented the things you learned about their company. What was the purpose of the behavior they exhibited and you described? Again congratulations on doing so well and being chosen! Do you know why you were chosen and what traits you possess that make you so valuable to them as your employer. I was born and raised in the Middle East and find these cultural interactions/differences fascinating! Thank you again for a very interesting reply you posted regarding this video- Respectfully....

They do that in the US too though. For my first job out of nursing school, I flew to another city and went to the interview and there was 12 ICU managers in a dark uninviting office, they asked questions and also seemed uninterested, no laughter when I told jokes, very serious and stressful and I was so mad that I flew all the way out to salt lake and failed, then I got the job! I had other interviews back in Denver where we all talked and laughed and seemed to be best friends and for those ones I didn't get the job. Nursing school was also a similar situation. They just do it to weed out the applicants and find people who don't crack under stress, especially if they are gonna invest with a bunch of training.

The language boost is real. I remember applying for the same IT position as another girl with very similar experience and because she knew Spanish and there were a lot of customers who spoke Spanish in the area, she got the job over me. I ended up getting a different position and I realized a lot of the people who worked at the service desk knew different languages. One guy was actually from Russia, another guy was fluent in German... it doesn’t come up every day but when it does, it matters.
That’s not why I learn languages, but it’s just another perk.

I used to be a flight attendant years ago, and I’m so relieved that your airline is smart enough to do personality surveys and put applicants through some paces before they hire them. The long and stressful interview day is also very smart, since cabin crews can work long hours and this alone is a good test of personality and stamina. My airline didn’t do any of that and so they lost a lot of people during training or within the first year of flying. They hired some introverted people who naturally found the job emotionally draining. It was disappointing for the person, but also expensive for the airline. Thankfully, I loved flying. Good luck, everyone!

    @junenam145 3 ปีที่แล้ว +331

I’m a flight attendant with Delta (class of 2019!) and I remember being so stressed (and excited!) for my F2F interview in Atlanta! It was in a group setting as well, lots of problem solving and teamwork type format like you mentioned, but the one on one was super chill. They said that they changed it up a bit for the year I was hired, and made it very casual, barely asked any interview type questions (we had already done like 3 previous interviews online/phone call/Skype type, so they had a basic sense of how we would answer typical interview q’s) and instead asked if I had any questions for them. So I think I ended up asking more questions than I was asked lol
I could tell that they were trying to gauge if I was someone they would enjoy working with, if I was easy to get along with, etc. It’s interesting that Emirates kind of does a different thing with their one on one where they want to gauge whether you would be able to handle difficult situations and passengers. Maybe it’s the different market we have and different expectations of service, ie.small talking, friendly Americans vs elite Middle Eastern travelers who expect utmost professionalism.
    Thanks for the video!
