I have to say I really enjoyed this video. It got me thinking about a lot of stuff. I have to say I’m an advance seamstress, because I’ve been sewing for over 45 years and there’s nothing I haven’t made (except a bra, but I have no interest yet 😂). But I have to say when I was learning nothing was off-limits for me. So when people say beginners, I feel like all patterns beginners should try if that is what they want to make. My mother never told me I couldn’t try a pattern because it wasn’t for beginners, she only said it’s gonna require work . When I did sew a patterns that had more details I always based stitch the seam to see how things turned out first. Base stitching and a seam ripper are your friends when you’re learning to sew something new. Also, when I was learning to sew I also never sewed with knits. 😂
You also mentioned sew alongs and I know a lot of people love them. I personally don’t watch sew alongs because I don’t like to watch other people sew. I do enjoy sewing and feel it is a gift and a talent. My mother, my grandmother and my aunts sewed. I now make all my clothing, don’t buy ready to wear well I have it in years except for bras and socks. I love seeing so many people sewing 😊
I’m glad I found you, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Sorry I got a little long-winded. 😂

Well hey MsTonie! Thank you! I am glad you are here! You are free to get as winded as you like! 😎45 years…now you've got me to thinking 🤔- I sure I'm right up there with you. We have a lot in common. I've always believed in making what you want whatever sewing experience you have. It's how we learn! My mom was the same. She never discouraged me from making whatever I wanted regardless of the pattern category but did instill good sewing habits to ensure a well made, good looking garment. That was the most important thing in her book. No interest in bra making either! 😀Baste stitching is a girl's best friend for real! I always say - don't wait until the pattern tells you to do so! Just Do It! Gotta have multiple seam rippers FOR SURE! Sewing is definitely a gift AND a talent! 🙏 I have one aunt that I know used to sew and my maternal grandmother knitted and crocheted, so my mom was it for me. I am so glad you stopped by! Keep sewing! Take care!

I think the shift from beginner to whatever is next is about confidence. I have learned exclusively from the internet; TH-cam, Instagram, Blogs. I absorb what everyone says and shows then I try it out. I think I've moved to whatever is next by lots of practice making lots of different garments. I think if you are a beginner, it's very important to get into acceptance that there will be mistakes made, and that it's ok. It's all part of the process. It's important to just keep sewing.

Hey sewonsister!…LOVE that handle by the way. Thanks for commenting! I agree confidence is one of the main ingredients as well as not being afraid to learn (from others) and embracing the mistakes. "It's all part of the process" indeed. Thanks for tuning in and yes…"just keep sewing"! ☺🤓😎

Love your personality! I had this pattern in my Etsy cart for a minute and decided to order it. Love the pants and love that short sleeve top version. I also like the long sleeve for the fall. I am a Seasoned Advanced Beginner and proud of it😂😂😂😂😂😂. I do not and never have liked detailed patterns with a lot of pieces! At 66 years young, and I have been sewing since I was 11, it is still the instant gratification for me. I retired back in 2020 and my style is still simple. A pair of slacks and a nice top, a simple dress. I love a nice maxi dress, just simple!

Hi Beverly. Thank you!..."and proud of it". I LOVE that! I hear you and I agree. Embrace where we are. I retired in 2022 and "simple" is the name of the game these days. Thanks for tuning in!

Hi, Terri, great vlog! This pattern is so cute and I cut it out when it was released but never made it. As a lover of Vogue patterns, I have a hard time with the labels because I will tackle any pattern😂. I retired in 2018 and sew things that are comfortable and looks great on my body now. This pattern is such a great one for all the reasons you mentioned and would be fun to “hack”! Your videos are so much fun to watch and girl those dance moves…. I’ve got to up my game😂😂😂. Thanks for sharing and reminding those of us that have sat in this pattern since forever. ✂️🪡🧵❤😊

Thank you! Good timing! I used to be a fairly accomplished seamstress, but it's been years since I sewed clothes so I almost feel like I need to go back to a beginner project to get my skills back up. I hesitate to get a pattern that calls itself "beginner" or "easy" because sometimes that means "looks homemade," and not in a good way. This pattern may be just the thing to feel my way back into sewing. Need some new clothes, but I don't like the fabrics used in most store-bought things. So, thanks!

Hey there! You are welcome and my pleasure. Once accomplished always accomplished no?! 😜I agree store-bought doesn't appeal to me as much as it once did. Lord knows I have enough fabric to make whatever I need or even want. Work your way back in there! You'll be glad you did...and I will too! 😊. Thanks for tuning in! Take care!

Good timing! I used to be a pretty good seamstress but it's been quite a few years since I sewed clothing. Need some new clothes, simple ones, but I often don't like the fabrics used in store-bought stuff. This may be just right to revive my dormant skills and get something new to wear. Thanks!

You made excellent points in this video. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Not sewing related, but I really love the necklace you are wearing. Anyway, I see a pattern like yours as a palate cleanser for sewing. It is helpful for me to work through a relatively challenging pattern, then turn around and do something that makes a worthwhile project without doing my head in. Take care! I always enjoy your videos.

I thought I was a beginner… but I have tackled things that are complex in my book (Styla Salla hoodie, a cabin bag for my son, a ride-in saddle cover for my son which was my first project and I patterned it myself by draping on his actual eventing saddle with little to no knowledge of what I was doing. It needed welt pocket openings to put the stirrup learners through. That was hard for me; I had to watch a heap of videos to get it to make sense. But I did it!). I’ve now made a few tees and sweatshirts as well, and 3 pairs of Greenstyle Sundial leggings. The Styla Salla was complicated also for me, but once again, I did it. I don’t think of myself as a beginner now, as I keep pushing the envelope out of the easy. I’m now making the Wayfarer Sling backpack. Is it tricky, yes! Am I making it work? Also, yes! I can sew in a zip well now, topstitch like a champ, my lines are straight and - most important of all - I’m having fun! I have no experience sewing woven clothing yet. This might be a good option. Love your video, thank you for the effort you put into sharing.

Hey there! Thank you for such a GREAT comment! Sounds like determination plays an important role too!. I can only imagine how good it felt to take on those projects AND complete them. BRAVO! 👏 Gotta "make it work"…I definitely agree! Thanks for tuning! Definitely have fun and keep creating! 😎

I always enjoy your videos. I am 71 and learned to sew in 9th grade Home Economics class. I mostly make quilts nowadays but I occasionally go back to apparel sewing. Each time I go to make a garment, I feel like a goose in a new world even though I made all of my clothes for years and all of my two daughters’ clothes until they started elementary school. I suppose I would rate myself as somewhere between confident beginner and advanced, depending on what I am making….

Hi Linda! Thank you, I appreciate that! Home Economics! I loved that course. Quilting is something that I'd like to try at some point. I'd love to complete at least one quilt. I would definitely agree that a rating could change depending on what one is making! Thanks for tuning in! Happy Quilting! ☺

I feel like I am a confident beginner, but sometimes I will tackle an intermediate pattern. Now, have I made the blazer pattern I bought years ago? Nope. I’m not THAT confident! 😂😂😂
