Glad I could help! I think there might be a plastic piece which breaks off on the right side of the carriage, causing it to be loose. It meshes with the big gear.
People like myself does the same thing what you do cleaning out mode switches in VCR players when I get them offline and come in my house I clean out mode switch in it

Great presentation. I might try to fix my VCR that has exactly the same problem, the eject mechanism stoped working and casette is stuck inside.
