Great video as always AM. I'd also like to add that if your bnb combo works through counter hit, jump in, and DI, thats a huge bonus. Less mental stack on your side when you know what combo will work in multiple scenarios. Another good bnb is a simple jab > jab > special move in the case that your opponent knows how to stay -4. I found that one big bnb and one small bnb was enough to get me to Diamond and worked on anti-airs and DI-reactions all the way to masters. I rarely ever feel "damn if i only knew the optimal combo, that would have won me the match".
I am a master level player but I find this video as an excellent short-and-sweet guide to success. All of these tips are aspects I had to learn the hard way to get where I am; glad there are people making guides like this for beginner and intermediate players out there.
Thank you! I feel like there’s a lot of combo videos out there and then the super advanced tech but hardly any beginner friendly videos for players just starting out. Hope these videos will help. I appreciate your feedback and support!
Hey man. Great to hear from you. I would pick one or two combos from this video and then build from there. Master them until you can do it all the time! SF6 Ryu Starter Guide #1 - Easy To Follow BNB Combos th-cam.com/video/5_JhJKd1TaY/w-d-xo.html
I haven't really played SF since 3rd Strike before coming onto SF6 (I did not like SF4 or SFV at all) so I wouldn't call myself a good SF player but I'm decent. I have a Master JP and took several characters who I think started in either low Plat or high Gold to Diamond 1 and 2 (I'm waiting for more content before I take all my mains to Master, so I don't feel like I'm done with the game completely) and I wanted to add/co-sign some stuff. I definitely don't worry about learning the optimal stuff when learning a character. Right now my Guile confirm is like st mp cr mp, dr cr mp cr mp target combo then flashkick. It's not flashy (no pun intended) but it's plenty of damage on an easy confirm. I'm almost to diamond 1 from plat 1 in like 4 days with basically just that combo as my damage dealer lol. I highly recommend turning on the setting in training mode that will physically flash red if the button you pressed can be canceled into a special or a drive rush and flash blue if it can be canceled into your level 3. It's a very easy way to figure out your own combos. Also and a low level player a big thing I learned is to DO LESS. Being in silver/bronze/gold all of your opponent will make a ton of mistakes. The less you're doing the more you're putting yourself in a position to capitalize on the mistake of the other person. For instance, and this is where anti air knowledge is important, opponents at lower levels might jump at you 5 times in a row........LET THEM. It'll be good AA practice.
A good way to look at fighting games and immediately get better is think about cause and effect. Most newbies "button mash" right? That's likely what you're doing. Well the issue with simply pressing buttons repeatedly and randomly is that it's not giving you a lot of information back on why the button press was successful or not. Why did it hit them, why did you miss? Try to be more deliberate with what you want to do and then figure out why it's working or it isn't. REplays are a very good resource to just watch your match and see what you could have done different. Hope this helps!
You can actually make auto combo work well for you if you learn the other mechanics of the game! Learn parry timing, when to grab, when to cmd grab, etc!
