Excellent, same way I was taught as an apprentice, use old seal to settle new seal and line clutch up by eye too, managed a twin plate one that way once too, however I preferred an old primary shaft for lining up twin plates, a lot to be said for serving apprenticeship in a place that was tighter than 2 coats of paint 😉

Hi Chris, I know it’s 10 month down the line but I just watched your video there and something that one of my old gaffer lad did was made up clutch alignment tools out of flat steel plate, just cut the plate diameter of the inside of the spigot and same with the inside of the clutch plate, seemed to work ok. was laughing at the video of the one you were on with the crane not starting 😂 some man 👍🏻

Great video's ! Only watching a few days. As a Agricultural mechanic I know the story with that s..t! For putting those seals in lower than the housing I do put 2 nut's up a bolt, use one nut to measure how far seal is sitting and run other one up against the first nut. Use the head of the bolt to tap seal in to an equal depth.👌

have you heard of a guy called reg bedford chris your dad may have,he was my mentor for 6 years,he made clutch dollies out of wood and they worked great,he had an old morris oxford with 200k + miles on it,he never changed the oil in ten years he just put a can of molyslip in twice a year,swearing ! ! i like it chris its bringing back memories for me of a true garage crack.
It would be great to have some seal tools and clutch alignment tools but as soon as i get one they come out with a different style . Keep up the good work.

Was a mechanic from 1959 to 2015 used a torque wrench in the beginning but favored that's good method. You get a feel for it, not saying you do everything that way. As for calibration if you don't torque exactly as specified what have you gained. When I worked for Cat there were multiple torque specs. Amazing going from clean dry threads to lubricated or dirty threads how much torque is affected then you have bolt stretch method don't forget the multiple torque loosen an retorque pulse torque with degree method lol brings me back to the feel method. Tough business being a struggler. Just having fun take care an be safe
Fit the new seal with the aid of the old seal, that separates a technician from a Journeyman mechanic 👍. Great work, and nice clear photography, lot cleaner than the trucks. Thanks for sharing and stay safe all in 2022.

Go to your breakers or your local gear box repair man an ask for a selection of wrecked spigots and cut then down ,iv 5 or 6 in work ,makes life easier lining clutchs
Great job, anything I’ve changed a box for a second hand one the grinder was out, ive recently discovered that a Subaru input shaft is identical to Mk6 and 7 2.2 and 2.4 transits lol

You on the other are amazingly interesting 😆 I hope you don't stop "saying naughty words" and you keep carrying on the way you like, it's part of your charm. TH-cam has a way of softening content creators. All the sudden they speak proper quit smoking and start wearing their seat belts 😆 🤣
It's interesting tbh when you think about tools that can save you some time and money like you said about that Sealey aligning tool thing. One thing that changed the game for me when working on cars or tractors because i work on a farm was a 1/2 impact wrench a high torque one, saves my back and time. If I worked more on the bigger tractors I would probably get that new Makita 3/4 40v one, or the Milwaukee 3/4 as it's a bit cheaper but also not as powerful. And a head torch, a rechargeable one specifically tbh. Hope you have a good new year Chris and the family.
Going to have a look at that sealey tool I do your method or sockets and tape these big astronaut boxes on small splines do like to be spot on to line with the spigot bearing and are no fun in coaches
What a coincidence I've been on a road trip to Wales my voltage regulator on the alternator packed up so I have no lights so I'm in a lay-by on the 617 just outside newark until daylight then im off to Hamilton way to get a new one from a very helpful auto electrician. "You can't get it in the wrong place" 😂 It's been done in our shop. Gunned up in wrong place then wondered why it wouldn't start. The culprit mushroomed the locating pin, bloody buffoon.
Top channel mate, had a re=maned gearbox replaced my fuck one. While replacing gearbox told shop may as well sort it all, clutch, flywheel what needed doing. Didn't want to be removing gearbox 3/6 months down the road. Shop did clutch, got flywheel machined, re-maned gearbox also replaced bell housing....... Didn't replace seal .(crank seal, I think) 3 days later oil leaking out between engine & bell housing. Should seal have been replaced ???? Of course shop says "not our fault " . People I've spoken to have said yes shop fault. I'm not a mechanic, just a driver trying not to go bust. 26 grand Bill N.Z. any info would be great. Supporter...Del
Is that Iveco got the 2.3 or the 3 L and have you had any electric issues, our 2.3 shit the wiper motor and the indicator stalk was acting up for a while.

If you didn't have to return the old flywheel as a core you could of burnt the centre out of the old flywheel and used that to draw the new seal in straight then once flywheel was drawn right up to crank then you could just tap it in that little bit further with old seal so the new flywheel didn't rub on the face of the new seal
I had lost gear syndrome years ago, could i hell find a pair of molegrips. Took the wagon in for an mot and the tester say's are these molegrips on the track rod for any reason?. Rusted to hell they were.
I got used to using those dummy spiggot ,clutch aligning tools.So when I was freelance and low budget I improvised with a nice chunky rod (actually a fat phillips in my tool box and electrical insul tape positioned and wound on as a dummy spigot and the spline bit.It was a bit loose but gave me a better way of centering quicker.It worked for me on loads of jobs and I never bought the tool. I was brought up punished for swearing ,then went into engineering up North Every second word was Fuck, a bastard or the other one that upsets the feminists.I still like a good swear...
Chris that's heavy work on your own used to be a hgv mechanic here in republic of Ireland retired now how do you have the patience to make videos and do the job at the same time keep the clips coming looking forward to them 👍
Yeah it can be a struggle on your own, you know what it’s like sometimes you just need a spanner holding but instead I have to mole grip it or wedge a spanner up! The recordings no problem really, just sit the camera down and carry on working as normal! Cheers for the comment James 👍

Look into Milwaukee gear when you upgrade, the lights they do are fantastic, turns night to day. Not cheap but well worth it

I remember two mates putting a diff in a F88, and one lost a tip of his finger amd said we aint taking that diff out again, so somewhere there is a F88 with a finger tip in its axle

Top channel mate, had a re=maned gearbox replaced my fuck one. While replacing gearbox told shop may as well sort it all, clutch, flywheel what needed doing. Didn't want to be removing gearbox 3/6 months down the road. Shop did clutch, got flywheel machined, re-maned gearbox also replaced bell housing....... Didn't replace seal .(crank seal, I think) 3 days later oil leaking out between engine & bell housing. Should seal have been replaced ???? Of course shop says "not our fault " . People I've spoken to have said yes shop fault. I'm not a mechanic, just a driver trying not to go bust. 26 grand Bill N.Z. any info would be great. Supporter...Del

If you didn't have to return the old flywheel as a core you could of burnt the centre out of the old flywheel and used that to draw the new seal in straight then once flywheel was drawn right up to crank then you could just tap it in that little bit further with old seal so the new flywheel didn't rub on the face of the new seal

I had lost gear syndrome years ago, could i hell find a pair of molegrips.
Took the wagon in for an mot and the tester say's are these molegrips on the track rod for any reason?. Rusted to hell they were.

I got used to using those dummy spiggot ,clutch aligning tools.So when I was freelance and low budget I improvised with a nice chunky rod (actually a fat phillips in my tool box and electrical insul tape positioned and wound on as a dummy spigot and the spline bit.It was a bit loose but gave me a better way of centering quicker.It worked for me on loads of jobs and I never bought the tool.
I was brought up punished for swearing ,then went into engineering up North Every second word was Fuck, a bastard or the other one that upsets the feminists.I still like a good swear...

Chris that's heavy work on your own used to be a hgv mechanic here in republic of Ireland retired now how do you have the patience to make videos and do the job at the same time keep the clips coming looking forward to them 👍
Yeah it can be a struggle on your own, you know what it’s like sometimes you just need a spanner holding but instead I have to mole grip it or wedge a spanner up! The recordings no problem really, just sit the camera down and carry on working as normal! Cheers for the comment James 👍
