- Welcome Gardeners! I’m staying cool in the shade today and sprucing up the chicken coop! We’ve got wreaths, shade containers, and solar lights! The coop is really coming together nicely and I think the girls are pretty happy about it! 🐥 Enjoy!

I would just think about your chickens seeing any light through the night might throw them off their rhythm. My solar lights stay on all through the night. Just a thought!

Yes I was just going to say that. Can cause them stress. They know when to roost whe. It gets dark.
These solar lights have an on/off switch. So they will only be on when I want them to! 💗
That’s a perfect idea Janey for the solar lights, as long as there off during dark hours your chickens will be happy
I have solar lights on my coop. It’s never been a problem. I’ve had chickens for four years. Your coop/run is GORGEOUS!

Poor Monty, so curious about the chicks! Perhaps they can meet and grow up together and become besties!!! They can free-range on the property, keep the bugs under control; Monty can watch over them and coral them back to their coop for the evening! (Repeat, tomorrow...).
The more herbs you plant around your chickens the better. Mint basil. Keep pests disease and smell down and great for your chickens
A shade garden with a bunch of different coral bells/astilbe/& hostas would look gorgeous back there.

Janie I saw someone on TH-cam paint.their hardware cloth black and it made the hardware cloth disappear. Just a small roller so much of an improvement.

Both my daughters played in orchestra. Violin and viola, I remember -when they played twinkle twinkle.✨ after years of playing it is worth the effort 🌼🐝
The paver patio in front of the chicken coop would look good if it were the same as the floor in the greenhouse and the pathway in the front of your house. Yes? Love everything Janey!!

I just love the combination of plants you used in your pots! You always do such a great job.
I think that the voiceover is great! I prefer that with the video of the tasks shown at normal speed to a lengthy description on camera followed by a super sped-up video!
The pots look great in front of the coop. I noticed the one on the left is on a bit of a slant. You might want to level it out a bit by putting a little bit of mulch on the left side under the pot to make it level. Everything looks great.

A tug at my heart strings. My kids were all in band and orchestra also. Hearing the concert took me back 26 years when we attended their concerts. Janey and Jason, I know everyone says it, and it's true - it goes too fast. Enjoy each stage of your girls' lives. The fancy chickens have a fancy coop - so adorable.

If that solar panel isn’t getting enough sun you can always put it on the roof and just feed the wire through the hardware cloth.
Love the patio lights in the coop, and can’t wait to see how they light up the place :) I agree, a paver patio across the front of the coop would look (and feel) great!
Chickens need at least 14 hours of light a day to produce eggs so the lights will be handy in the wintertime when the daylight hours are less. We turn a light on in our coop in the morning and in the evening to help add to those light hours that are needed. They still go back to the coop to roost even with the light on and then we turn the light off when we do our final rounds to check on them at night.

Hi Janey, I was wondering if you plan to put an outdoor camera up in a corner of your chicken coup. It sure would be handy to have so you can check on them if you hear a ruckus coming from them to see if a predator is trying to get into their coup. It would give me peace of mind knowing I could check in on them anytime without having to go out in the middle of the night needlessly.

You should ask your girls to design and paint a cute picture on your metal trash can infront of the coop. The pot came out beautiful!
Bravo to Sadie playing the viola! The chicken coop is coming along nicely. I like the idea of the pathway leading to the coop door. I noticed all of the rocks that you have in your back yard. I would suggest using the rocks to create a "half circle" around the two potted plants to make a mini-garden area on the side of the coop door. I think I would also use the bench and put it on an angle in front of where the coop and the garage meet, angled towards the coop. You could even incorporate a pathway to the bench to create a little sitting area. Well done, Janey. You have great style!
Even though it was an unexpected scramble and stress to get it done in time, it must be so satisfying to have the run and coop come together so incredibly fast! Now you can do the projects around it and make it even more beautiful 💕

Awww… this was so sweet. Especially the concert at the end. I started playing the violin when I was 3 and these beautiful kiddo concerts always give me the chills… it’s so beautiful. 💕
Costco has solar string garden lights that are fabulous. I paid $27 and they are bright and last a long time late into the night. I bought one last summer and they were up all year and are 😊still going strong.
Definitely check with poultry providers about night lights. Already mentioned by someone that laying rhythm may get messed up.
I love your chicken coop, very cute! I would put the same paver as you have throughout your garden in front of it and maybe center the pots so that it’s cometic on both sides. Love aqua pots, I don’t have any yet, but hope to add them to my garden areas too. Hugs from Texas! Love y’all!

Do you need a fan mounted up high to help. With the heat? Laura has one in her Coup so just wanted to make sure your babies don't have heat stroke later.

Silkies are so cute! We had a gorgeous black Silkie named Rico Suave and when he died we were so sad. He was all of our favorite ❤️ Last year we got some Lavender chicks, they’re full grown now and they’re absolutely beautiful!😍

If no one else has mentioned it to you- get some freeze dried meal worms for your chickens. We call it chicken candy. They love it and it will take care of their shyness. Whenever you take it totem say something like ‘chick,chick,chick,’ and it will teach them to come when you call them.

You can probably overwinter all those plants in your greehouse for year-round enjoyment. I think solar pathlights would look fabulous dotted throughout the front garden. Erin from "Impatient Gardener" & Jenny from "Creekside" have some from Hoselink.

Hi Janey, did you know that sunflowers are allelopathic......that they suppress some plants growing around them.? Very curious! .....Have you noticed if the flowers surrounding them seem to be affected by them? They may not affect your others flowers as they are planted some ways away ...but I have seen a garden bed planted tightly with onions and sunflowers ... the nearer the onion plants were to the sunflower , the worst they looked, very feeble, yellowish plants..😳
I’ve had chickens for all my life… never had a “cuddly” one. I’ve had favorites that follow me around but not sure you can turn a chicken into a pet that way 🤔
