- I recently visited Botswana where I took a walk in Gaborone's oldest shopping district/street called Main Mall. The area is home to lots of informal shops selling music, clothes, arts & crafts and traditional food. The area is also home to businesses, banks, supermarkets, many printing shops and internet cafes. In the past this was the most important shopping district in Gaborone, today Gaborone has many large shopping malls that are more important. The Botswana Parliament building and the National Musuem are also in the area.

it sounds like its very quiet there
@@Augfordpdoggie Hey, it's actually quite busy and lively in this part of town.
Brings memories I lived in that city 32 years very emotional 😭 tears 😢
هنيئا لك أخي .ولماذا فارقت هدا البلد الجميل .انا مغربي وهده مدة سنوات وانا احلم بزيارتها او العيش فيها ولم أتمكن..انها بلد جد جد رائع
Always Gaborone is my best town in Botswana
So many beautiful memories. Grew up in Gabs from 1982 to 1997. Went to Thornhill and MAP. Remember going shopping to Spar which appears in the video. My dad used to work for the Botswana government in buildings dept which had an office in that mall. ❤
beautiful and clean country !!
Gaborone is the heart of our nation. I love Bw🇧🇼❤🇧🇼💖🇧🇼❤🇧🇼💖🇧🇼❤🇧🇼. ✌🇧🇼👏
That straight walk actually connects the Government parliament building with the caborone City council. In between them is this Mall, main mall.
Memlriea.. i walked this pathways unaccountable number of times especially as a University of Botswana Students or at rimes when i was just staying in Gabs, the university is not that far away from this straight walk as well , it's a walking distance to the University and national stadium.
It's looking good a lot better than it did when I was there 18 years ago
Nice, I'm sure it has changed a lot since then! What I like is that it looks very vibrant and busy now.
Ke tlhwaafaletse gae,am staying in SA but ketswa Botswana 🇧🇼

Thanks very much from Kenya! I'll keep pushing.
Thanks for the video. Love how the place is clean. What i dont understand... where is the "Mall"? Isnt a Mall a large building with many shops under the one roof? What i saw was street vendors alongside the roadway.
Hi, thanks for watching! I get where you are coming from, it doesn't look like a traditional mall. So I would try to answer by saying that it is more of an open air mall, with a walk way for pedestrians. So it is not under one roof but it has similar shops that you would find in any new mall in Gaborone such as banks, business offices, super markets, bookstores, hair salons, internet cafes, take aways etc. It was one of the first shopping areas/malls built in the city and it has kept its original look.
Ok. I understand. Thanks for taking the time to explain.
The mall, in this case, refers to the strip that connects the civic centre and the parliament!! pretty much the same concept as the mall that connects the queen's residence to the parliament square and surroundings in London. That is why it is a giant red carpet if you have noticed!!
why I see no motorcycles in the city?
Batswana are not motorcycle lovers, they prefer cars. You’ll see 1 or 2 motorcycles here and there mostly ridden by enthusiasts and delivery drivers.
@@fimmyk thanks. So it seems it’s not forbidden per se
Motorcycles are mostly common in the densely populated cities in East Africa where it's almost impossible to drive a car, I think
india 🇮🇳 ❤ se ok
The place now should called Old mall because there are better and new malls now
I agree 😅, Gaborone is full of many new malls now.
There is a reason it's called that.
But seriously what’s this hype about Gaborone and Botswana, really? Why compare it with Zim for e.g. I love their traditional music no doubt . Fullstop
They like comparisons
Because Zimbabweans are allover and refuse to go back to their better country.
Because we did not inherit colonial infrastructure.
