- How to tell if a motorcycle battery needs replacing or just recharging. Don't buy a new motorcycle battery before you try these two methods of how to tell if motorcycle battery needs replacing. You'd be surprised what you discover!
There are lot of reasons why your motorcycle battery could die. Sometimes your battery doesn't need to be replaced. Other times, you might think the problem is with your battery, but it could simply be a wiring or electrical problem. So I’m gonna show you two simple ways to test your motorcycle battery.

This battery reconditioning program exceeded my presumptions. It worked on any drill battery, several AA and AAA batteries batery.repair and any camera battery. The steps are simple and the act itself is exciting to do. No matter what type of battery you`ve got, it is sure to function again!

Thanks for the video! I have been buying sealed batteries for well over 20 years now. I leave them on a battery tender 24/7 and they "always" last at least 4 years and usually 5. I routinely check the tightness of the terminals. I ride a Harley and I believe the vibration causes the connections to loosen and even a little is enough to kill a battery.

Hey there, EXCELLENT video. This is the best most and most informative video I've found. Will definitely be subbing.
I've been having strange battery problems. I use a battery conditioner at least once every two weeks to keep the bike in good condition when not using the bike regularly.
My battery conditioner shows GREEN light within an hour of being plugged in, suggesting the battery is fine but I got stranded when it died on me. I returned home, plugged the bike into the conditioner which is supposes to tell me the condition of the battery, and the battery conditioner is showing GREEN lights again suggesting the battery is healthy.
Any advice? Many thanks.
I'm assuming you mean a battery charger? Is it a motorcycle-specific battery charger? Have you tested or had your battery tested?
@@YouMotorcycle hi its called a battery tender or conditioner. Its an Optimate 4 and is for motorcycles and supposed to be very highly rated. Its designed to keep the motorcycle battery fully charged when not riding for extended periods of time, and to protect the battery from cold weather in the winter by regularly checking the charge every one hour and charging if necessary. Its really annoying it shows GREEN lights, yet my motorcycle died on me yesterday while out riding.
I've not tested the battery yet, but I'm going to buy a multi meter as you suggested and test the battery first and then the motorcycles charging system as per your video.
@@darkknight17 Time to test your motorcycle battery to see if you have an issue with your motorcycle (the stuff I describe in the first 20 seconds). I'd recommend buying a multimeter and/or a battery tester. Let me know if you need any help / have any questions.

Very informative, thank you. Also, check your battery terminal connections. Have missed this simple, free test a couple of times in my life and wasted a lot of time trying to diagnose a problem that didn’t exist. Just a loose connection.

I have my stock battery specs at 12v 7Ah but due to difficulties finding the same exact size and specs I found one that matches the same dimensions of my battery but the specs is 12v 9Ah? Will that be okay if I put an additional 2Ah in the battery?
That isn't the battery type you need. You need a battery type like YTX12-BS. If you aren't sure, go to yuasa's website and put your year make and model in and they will tell you what battery you need
What if ur battery voltage drops to around 8v when the ignition is turned on. Probably needs to be replaced? If I do recharge it how long should I charge it/ what voltage should I charge it up 2?
If it's dropping that low I would say that battery is done. Battery chargers should know when to stop charging your battery already.
Hi , my bike hasn’t been used much so I have put in on charge , it says 12.6 v but 0 amps , any thoughts ?
What happens when you try to turn on the bike?
It tries its best but not quite enough go to start , I think I will try a new battery , the bike has a data tool alarm and hadn’t been used much in the last month
Everymorning if i start my moped it cranks but it has not enough power to start it every time i need to kick start it but when i drive and it charge the battery and i shut it off it starts good. next day it has not enough power to start do i need to replace
Sounds like your battery is having a hard time holding a charge. But it's cheaper to buy or borrow tools to test it than it is to replace the battery and find out it was something else, so I would test it first
So if my Atv was hot wired a few times for like 3 days straight would that Drain the battery fast?

Every household should have an inexpensive, but reliable, digital multi-tester.

What's Ideal time to charge 12v bike battery to full, it's showing 8v
Ideal is to charge before it ever gets that low. How long it will take is going to depend on how fast your charger is and how big your battery is. Remember that you should only use a motorcycle charger on motorcycle batteries. If you use a car battery charger it can be way too powerful and damage your small motorcycle battery. Your charger should say what rate it charges at in amp hrs, and your battery should say on it what rate it can be charged at.

Had my battery for 2 years about and everytime I ride to the gas station and refill my bike don't start I have to sometimes wait 2-3 day's then it will start.. Is that possible a bad battery.. Tbh I take short rides I never take long ones someone chime in... 🤔🤔

What if at first click on it spikes down dramatically instead of just a little. Brights horn everything functioning but no sounds motions or whatnot when pushing ignition
Was the battery fully charged before doing this? If so, weak battery. If it wasn't, first charge battery then try
@@YouMotorcycle charged it overnight at work and it clicked the dash on real quick actually but no longer makes any clicking at all. Only lights horn dash are functioning.

Lights, dash, and a weak horn but no starter are usually signs of a bad battery. When was the last time you took the bike out for a good ride or charged it before it started giving you problems?
It looks like that type of 'dumb' battery tester you use will also 'fail' your battery if you just forgot to charge it for a while? Since the battery in your bike seems ok, you have some funds left to improve the audio(for this type of video a rode smartlav+ for wireless or a Audio Technica ATR 3350 to connect to your cam) ;)
Hahaha. Thanks for leaving a comment. I love it because.... (I wish I could attach an image to this)... I HAVE AN ATR3350 going into my Tascam DR-05, BUT my tascam batteries were dead, and I wanted to get back on the road ASAP, so I decided to start shooting without it... Lesson learned!
Re: your question, I probably should have mentioned in the video, but it's a good idea to try to charge the battery first... some batteries will recharge but won't really hold it up, the load tester ("dumb battery tester) will reveal that. Hope this clears that up.

However the weak battery was barely taking a charge. That battery came from a neglected bike that I bought to fix up and now just stays around the shop mostly as a tool and for demonstration. The Ctek took multiple rounds to it but there was no bringing it back

My bike was in the shed for 11 months lol, the battery is well and truly cooked
Leave it on a trickle charger next time! I've had a semi retired bike parked for two years. The battery is 7 years old. I keep it on a trickle charger. Fires up every time. Trickle charger will pay for itself :)

Yes. Leave it on a trickle charger next time and it will be fine :) I've had the same battery on a charger for 7 years and it still fires up :)

Could be. Could be a few things. What does the battery tell you when you test it?

A battery is 35 I’m still deciding if I should just get the battery. I purchased a bike and the previous owner said he wasn’t able to charge it during the winter. It sometimes struggles to turn on if I don’t turn it on for 2 days. My previous bike will turn on after a week of no use just fine. Both are 2014.
Purchase a quality Yuasa battery. That's my vote. I have customers bikes with cheap batteries that won't last more than two years, and if you don't charge them for a whole winter, they never come back to life. I have had many trouble free Yuasa batteries that have been super reliable. The longest running is one a girlfriend bought me eight years ago. She's had a couple long term relationships since then, married one of the guys, but her battery is still firing up my bike every time. You'll pay a little extra, but if you plan on keeping the bike, it's worth it. Your battery sounds like it's going to leave you stranded and the battery will pay for itself in what you'll save not having to get a tow truck.

Went from 12.6 down to 10.4 when dash was on what’s a recommendation m8 the rest of TH-cam hasn’t been much of a source still for this specifically. (05 600rr)
Think of it like you would a person. If a person can't pick up a light load, it's probably a weak person. The question is, does it just need a rest and recharge, or is it just weak and old?
