    Just a heads up everyone for trouble shooting -- as I saw a question come through relating to the transformation. Make sure the ENTIRE GROUPED pattern layer group is selected. NOT the individual elements when you are doing the save and load action and then clicking on transform to flip vertical and horizontal. Hope that helps!

    This video is incredibly useful! Your instructions were clear and easy to follow. I wish there was an easier way to do things as this is still a very complex process, but you’ve provided one of the best solutions for creating half drop repeat patterns on the iPad currently. Hopefully the apps continue to make the process of making half drop seamless repeat patterns easier for all of us in the near future. Thank you for sharing this!

    If you are designing for a specific item like fabric, how many repeats do you need to provide? Do you need to have the equivalent of the full width of the fabric or wallpaper, etc.?

    • @TheCreativeStudio1
      @TheCreativeStudio1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! You’ll need to ask your manufacturer what their requirements are but essentially you would just send your repeat tile - for example if you created a 4000x4000 file you would send that completed exported jpeg or PNG. For a place like spoonflower - it’s as simple as uploading that final tile. Some manufacturers work the same but it’s always safer to ask them what their file requirements are first. Hope that helps!

By watching your multiple-step run-throughs I found myself able to anticipate your next step on my own! Fantastic teaching/learning strategy!

    • @TheCreativeStudio1
      @TheCreativeStudio1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Jeanne! Glad you were able to follow along and thanks for your kind words. My suggestion to reuse the template - would be to copy the entire file in procreate - just duplicate and create a new set of grouped pattern layers that you can draw your new design on to. You can also reuse the same file by just creating another set of grouped layers and turning off the old layers with the older design on it. But for sake of access to layers i suggest that you duplicate the entire procreate project (swipe left on the file in gallery view and select duplicate) and then go into the new copy and delete old layers you won’t need. Let me know if that makes sense :)!

    It’s so cool how we can do this on procreate when I had to use u4ia or NedGraphics to do the same thing. Granted those programs do it seamlessly with no effort but this is so cool. No need to have Illustrator either. Great tutorial. Super great!!

    • @TheCreativeStudio1
      @TheCreativeStudio1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! The CAD software was definitely a requirement back in the day - glad that the design process is becoming a bit more accessible - Procreate for sure is easiest to access if you have an ipad - -and yes don’t absolutely need illustrator, I actually use the Affinity products and have some tutorials that show my process with them on the channel too :) Thanks for the comment and sharing your thoughts and watching :)!!

    someone please help! when i get to the step when you select the pattern tile group and press the transform tool, I get a popup that tells me "You curently have a group selected. Would you like to cancel or open layers?" If i select open layers it just opens the layers back up. Its like it will not allow me to select the group and transform. What am I doing wrong?

    • @TheCreativeStudio1
      @TheCreativeStudio1  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Renee check out the pinned comment I have that trouble shoots this - you need to make sure the entire group itself is selected not the individual elements of the group separated out selected - that should make the difference. Let me know if that helps!

    Love your video. Very new to this all. I am trying to figure out how you saved your templates into your layers. You lost me at 14.00 in your video. How did you save your guides you just created into your layers?

    • @TheCreativeStudio1
      @TheCreativeStudio1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kay - I just drew those guides on a new layer to better explain what I do in the following steps beginning at 14. You can just quickly draw them on a new layer using whatever brush you want. You can turn them on and off by tapping on the little circles in the layer menu (when you open the layer you will see the toggle to the right). You don’t Need to add them but I have them to help you as I walk you through the process. Also, you don’t have to save in the app - it auto saves as you work. Hope that makes sense! If you haven’t watched beyond the 14 min mark, keep watching then you can go back and start where you left off once you see me go through the whole process.

    Hi there wondering how you use the Pattern tile after you save it ? because it is a half drop when imprinting into illustrator as a watch it doesn't line up ? It only lines up if you import the test one and not the tile ?

    • @TheCreativeStudio1
      @TheCreativeStudio1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there - when working in illustrator you will need to change your settings so your tiling doesn’t do the basic repeat which is why it won’t line up. I believe there is a setting when applying a swatch that allows you to change the tiling format to half drop or brick but I haven’t looked at the software in a bit. If you load your tile to something like spoonflower then select the tiling options - select half drop you will see the tile works / there should be a similar swatch setting in illustrator - I believe this video from Adobe should show those settings: helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/how-to/create-pattern.html - hope that helps!

    • @TheCreativeStudio1
      @TheCreativeStudio1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Angela! To add the number guides I have, you just need to add a new layer in your layers options and you can draw the guides on that new layer with a brush of your choice -- you can turn that layer on and off by clicking the checkmark! Hope that helps - Jen

    Goodness! I would never have figured this out by myself. I guess the key here is once you've made the template, keep duplicates so it's faster the next time. And stick to a good grouping and naming scheme.

    Wow this was an awesome tutorial! I’m wondering how can the company edit the file when you merged and flattened in procreate and the flower buds and stems are in the same layer instead of separate ones?

    • @TheCreativeStudio1
      @TheCreativeStudio1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lana - they won’t be able to edit the file. Which is why you have to keep in mind what your client needs - if they require editable psd files than this would not be the process to use for that project. My other suggestion would be to make a copy of your original editable piece before the flattening process so if you needed to go back and edit you can.

    I'm just so confused with all of this. I don't seem to know how to create the templates and I think the video is just moving too fast for me. I think I'm having one of those days, I'll have to check it another day. Half drop pattern repeats are a bit tricky to get my head around. I think I'll have a break and then come back and check the video. I'm just not getting it today x

      Hi there - def pause it and attempt the steps and then restart the video as you walk through it. The template part consists of filling your artboard and transforming that shape then saving it as an action. Just take your time with it. Also I have a much more in-depth overview of how the half drop fits together in this video - th-cam.com/video/cgAEi2Qh6Sk/w-d-xo.html - hope it helps!

      Hi Shona! Sorry for the delay - yes as you said, people will want to make sure you have all of the layers selected Also - this could be another tip - In the layers panel, collapse the pattern layer group, and then keep it selected (indicated by the blue highlight). Then tap the Selection Tool. Make sure the tool is set on Freehand. If it is set to Automatic, you won’t be able to work with the entire group of layers. Thanks for watching and thanks for sharing your trouble shooting tip!!

    For those of you trying to use the swatch in illustrator -- here is some helpful info -- helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/create-edit-patterns.html -- In the example they have hex as the tile type - select the drop down and change it -- You’ll change it to brick by column and your brick offset to half and it should tile properly.

    I'm doing this in photoshop and the test tiles looks great and randomize. The problem is when I'm creating the final full-sized print file using the "pattern layer style" , the half drop repeat pattern is not there and there's a visible repetition pattern going on. How do I go about this?

    • @TheCreativeStudio1
      @TheCreativeStudio1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Irene - thanks for watching the video. I work primarily in procreate and affinity products and not Adobe. But I’ll try and trouble shoot for you. When I used to make patterns in photoshop I would typically use offset and the later style but that would only work with straight repeats - that could be where you’re running into issues - I have found a tut from a fellow TH-camr that might help though!! Check it out here: www.linda-matthews.com/how-to-make-a-half-drop-repeat-pattern-using-photoshop-elements/
