    Hi Leon. I found your channel while researching how to properly care for tomato plants. I. Have been in Texas since 04/21. My father passed away from coronavirus on 04/19. He was an Army Vet, retired railroad machinist, and PROUD GARDENER... I have been tending to his garden since he passed and have been researching plant care- specifically tomato plant care. The smell of the leaves remind me of dad... it’s important to me to keep them alive because my daddy was so proud of his garden. Your videos have helped me so much. Thank you for sharing all of your tomato plant care and information. Have a blessed day.

    Leon. My Uncle Earl always told me you needed to wrap a potato in newspaper before planting. When I asked him why? He said, “ it keeps the dirt from getting in that poor potato’s eyes. “

    I remember as a kid (hate to admit that we are talking over 60 years and more) that my grandmother, as spring got closer, would take a baking potato or sweet potato and place it in a clear jar of water to let it sprout roots. She was raised on a farm in North Carolina and could grow almost anything. I on the other hand, need Leons help so everything I touch will FINALLY stop dying on me ....lol.

      There are so many videos for every type of gardening, every type of crop, and all sorts of hacks and shortcuts. But there's nothing like hearing "how to" from the farmers who have been doing it for years... and now with TH-cam, most will likely be available to watch for years. We are truly blessed!

    I found new potatoes growing already this year from potatoes I planted last year in my no till garden. They were ones I must have missed. They're mixed in with my garlic I planted last November 2019. My husband planted 72 potatoes this year.

    What is that black cover you have over the tubs? It looks thick. 🍅🍅🍅
    The last two bags of organic Yukon Gold potatoes I have bought over the last month or so have potatoes with chits 🌱, growing eye sockets, or roots. 😆 Those babies are all being planted because I'm not wasting them. I just wish I could get my hands on some of those tubs. In the meantime, I looked back in your videos and found your tutorials on self wicking grow bags. Yowza!

    Grocery store potatoes are often sprayed with sprout inhibitor and they will not sprout so they have a longer shelf life that’s why it is not advisable to use grocery store potatoes but use actual seat potatoes.

    All the seed potatoes are sold out everywhere. I'm planting store bought potatoes, that are non organic because that is all I could get, and they are sprouting. I am going to try to prove that the "seed potato" idea is a partly myth. I tried to sprout some red Norlands that were grown in Idaho and they did not sprout, but the russets I bought that were grown in the Texas panhandle have sprouts all over them, so maybe the red Norlands were treated the the russets weren't, I don't know. Thank you for this video Leon. It was very timely for me and greetings from south central Texas.

      I've never had a problem. If you can get the organic, that's what I prefer. But even the ones that aren't, they still start to grow those eyes. Thats usually when someone would they're them away. The only potatoes that I've not seen grow eyes are the purple/black potatoes. Haven't figured those out. It's all an experiment any way. • @JohnJordan78
    @JohnJordan78 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok I've looked through some of your videos but don't see anything mentioning this: root rot. I've got a whole lot of tubs from Menards ready for tomatoes and other vegetables. I've already made 2 wicking tubs already with carrots and radishes/onions going and they seem to be doing well so far. Since I've already lost some young tomato plants under lights indoors to root rot, I'm getting nervous about moving them to the tubs here in a couple weeks (southern IN). Should I put less water in them until I get to the warmer months? Maybe even just water them from the top for now and wait until mid June to water down the tube?
    Also, what plants would not do well in wicking tubs? So far I've figured that I'll put my bell pepper and habanero plants in 5 gallon buckets with regular drain holes on the bottom since they don't require as much water.

      Try to find a local cattle archer in ur area that feeds food and minerals in tubs to his cows. Go to a feed store and ask them if they know where u can get some if they have a board to post on at store. Post on it what ur looking for with ur contact #.

    Great Video. Can I grow sweet potatoes the same way? And what about watering the potatoes in the wicking tub?
