Mr. Leon, your channel is a godsend to all us viewers. I have told all of my folks at the local Garden club about your channel. We all watch and learn from every video you produce. I praise you for sharing all of your knowledge in quick, easy to understand and informative videos. God Bless you sir and your entire family and employees.
I'm so grateful for Arms Family Homestead here on TH-cam for connecting me with Leon! I am still learning from both of these great sites! Give them a follow 👆 👌😘👍. They are a wonderful family with lots of funny things!!!!! Houston runs the show 😂
These videos gardening with Leon have changed my life. I am so excited to start the self watering tubs. I am originaly from Hugo Okla. got transplanted to Calif. solid rocky boulder ground, Cannot dig a hole. Leon has saved my life. The Depression is over.I know exactly where Kingston is, fished for Catfish around there many times.Thank you Leon more than words can express, I am excited for the first time in a long time !
Dear Sir, I wish to thank you for getting me back into gardening after a back breaking accident. Raising your buckets to my height has alleviated the pain I would get from long hours of gardening. Truly a God send for me. Thank you Mr. Leon, Dean
This makes so much more sense to me. I live in south Alabama. In the hot summer, I have to water every 2 days to keep things going. Even using something underneath, I might get to 3 days. As you know, life happens, and sometimes watering doesn't happen like it should. For my larger pots, this makes such good sense. Thank you so much!
New subscriber here! I cannot get enough of this channel! I’m learning so much! I’m going to grab pen and paper and take notes/draw pictures. My favorite thing about your channel is that you share the Word. I’m very inspired and grateful for all the knowledge I’m learning from you. Thanks for taking time from your day to share what you’ve learned with people like me. God bless. ✝️😊💦☀️🌱
I haven't had a chance to watch the Bible study videos, but I have them flagged for later. Nice to see people sharing their faith on TH-cam, especially in this crazy season we are in. Arms Family Homestead is another good channel, who are friends of Leon's, and they are believers as well. They have a lot of info too, but broader topics. Hollis & Nancy's Homestead is a good channel too. Anyways, just a fellow Christian that related and appreciated your comment. Take care, and may You see God's provision and protection during this time. Stay Safe!
I love your patience in taking the time to explain the principles behind how to make these wicking pots and why. This understanding sets me free to adapt it to gardening here in NZ. Thanks so much!
Can I PLEASE call you PawPaw? I think 😍 I love you wisdom sharing. You care to share for no reason and benefit. You will live long after you depart this realm. I have taught my granddaughter your previous methods, now I will teach her this one. Thank you kindly!
This is exactly what I need for my deck vegetable garden here in Texas (the face of the Sun). Some times in the summer months I have to water my plants almost daily just to keep up. So since I'm lazy... this would make it easier for me.
Still trying to get my head around this air space between the water and the soil. Sometimes it is important however in this video not mentioned. Also Leon I am in Australia a country consumed by fire and drought as you no doubt have seen on TV. You have to understand that you are an international star. All the stuff you suggest to use, may be easy to get in south OK not so easy in Melbourne. However still the original and the best Thank you.
I'm 54, disabled, on a limited income. Fresh food - especially berries - is expensive. I've never grown anything. Your videos, your method and your encouragement have convinced me to give it a try. Thank you for sharing your experience and wisdom for free. God bless you Leon.
Hi Leon. Just stumbled across your videos. So grateful that you are sharing your vast experience worldwide. I live in beautiful New Zealand on a small section and have struggled these past 15 years to improve the clay soil and avoid competing tree roots. Also have had drought conditions lately with water restrictions. Your wicking pots are the answer for me. Can't wait to put your ideas to work in my own garden. At 71 years young I try to avoid digging as much as possible and have been seeking ways to reduce the toil generally in gardening so I can continue to enjoy the fruits of my labour. Indeed these are the Last Days and this is one of the many ways we can prepare ourselves for the coming of the Lord. May God bless and inspire you as you continue to serve His children with your talent in this area.
This is such an amazing idea Sir. I have been gardening since 2014 but every time we came home from vacation my peppers and cucumbers are all dying. I do not install drip irrigation as I could not afford it. I will definitely try it this season. I am so excited. Lots of love from a home gardener in France.
i really enjoy your videos sir,i live in dallas, and i plan on visiting your place on a sunday, sometime this spring, you make me wish i had payed more attention to my grand father, who had a big garden every year
Leon, I can get the tall tubs from local farmers, but where do you get the short tubs from? I am wondering if you could order them from the manufacturer.
The 5 gal pot below could be crushed by the weight of soil and plants. How about putting some 4” pvc pipes standing up to support Weight of upper tub? Thanks for all the tips Leon.
Hey there! I love the videos. How do you deal with freezing weather in the offseason for outside planters? I have some evergreens I wanted to do your wicking pots on, but I wanted to see how I should plan for rain followed by freezes. Thanks
We've been using a similar setup to this with IBC totes for years, and we use sand in the center wick. Goes down into the center well, then comes up about 1" above the water line, then a layer of mulch, then the soil.
Anaerobic...... what in the world is that.... .? May you enlighten me please ? Help Mr Leon somebody give a little help here .... don’t need that.... doesn’t sound healthy ....
Shared far and wide Leon. Would love to work a week or 2 with you. I've been promoting the commercial Earthboxes for years. I like your designs as well on a larger scale. Thank you for your efforts. Hope all is well. Have not seen any recent videos from you in about a year.
Hello I have been obsessively watching your videos over the weekend and love how you have made wicking so accessible. Can anyone please let me know if the containers being used need to be opaque or can we also use the transparent plastic kind if that's all I have available? Thanks in advance
Thank you for all the information. I believe the top bucket needs to have some small holes for the air to get in the soil, otherwise I can’t see the point of the trapped air.
I was thinking of using shade cloth instead of landscape fabric to cover the reservoirs on a regular wick tub. Any idea how long before I'd have to replace the shade cloth? I mean, it's plastic so I'm thinking it would last a lot longer than landscape fabric and definitely be more porous. Thanks for the vids Leon!
Hi Leon, I like all your videos. Are you the original inventor of the wicking bucket? I see so many videos on TH-cam of the same design. Some people give you credit while sadly others do not. Keep up the great work. I shared your video to a coworker other day and she thinks you’re great. I love your oodles of knowledge about gardening. You should have an easy to follow book of your gardening knowledge. 👍
I don’t travel or anything but I’m disabled and this will be perfect so that I don’t have to water as much. Thank you. How much fertilizer would I add when I do water?
Mr.Leon don’t really know how to say this without offending your camera guy needs some instructions on how to point the camera @ the subject your talking about .... if he can’t be trained a little better .... well I beleive I could be available for employment .... I know you can handle that ... your a blessing to society... In other videos he goes into detail about how many depending on if you are using determinate or indeterminate breeds of tomatoes. 1 - 4 depending. Also on how you are going to train them, caged or spill over etc..
He lives in the southern part of Oklahoma. I went to his farm yesterday to get supplies, unfortunately we didn't get to see him. He's home due to a recent car wreck. Let's keep him in our prayers.
They are cattle protein lick tubs. From ranchers. New they are filled with molasses and protein. Cows on grass lick the tub to get some protein to go with their dry grass in the winter
The pucks would work. Alternative. If you can get a really good seal around the rim first. Then a wad of steel wool in the overflow hole to prevent the bugs getting in.

Ps seems the camera man needs more direction on the camera. He didnt show us the bottom screen instead he showed the bottom of the bucket🙂

You are amazing--a genius in coveralls
Just found your soil pile video. Thank you for all the gardening information.

This is a great improvement. Who doesn't want to go on vacation sometime?

Leon thank you for your experience. It’s worth gold
I need some of those buckets! Thank you Leon, have a day.
Leon you got this stuff figured out! For real 😁. Excellent video!

Another great idea Leon. I have access to 55gl drums so I will probably go that route.
I am 72 getting so I can’t work so hard in heat. I am in Ky. So thankful for you.
Thank you Mr. Leon.

What kind of bucket are you using? The typical Loews or HomeDepot, empty, I have used as a step and I am 250#.
Always learning something new! Thank you very much!
I read that as "Thank you very mulch!" LOL!!!!!!
Hey there! I love the videos.
How do you deal with freezing weather in the offseason for outside planters? I have some evergreens I wanted to do your wicking pots on, but I wanted to see how I should plan for rain followed by freezes. Thanks
Mr. Leon , great information..
Have a nice week..
Does the soil sitting in the water ever start to smell really bad over time? If so what do you recommend that won’t put off an odor?
Thank you so much. This is another thing I have learned from you.
I wonder if the lower bucket should be filled with perlite instead, so all that wet compacted soil doesn't go anaerobic. What do you think Leon?
We've been using a similar setup to this with IBC totes for years, and we use sand in the center wick. Goes down into the center well, then comes up about 1" above the water line, then a layer of mulch, then the soil.

Transparent light will accelerate algae growth.
Thank you for all the information. I believe the top bucket needs to have some small holes for the air to get in the soil, otherwise I can’t see the point of the trapped air.
I am experimenting with putting a little hay or coconut fiber along the inside of top container for "air pruned roots".
You are epic, just epic. Thank You!!!!

Love this idea. But if the soil is sitting in water, won't it become anoxic?
I don’t travel or anything but I’m disabled and this will be perfect so that I don’t have to water as much. Thank you. How much fertilizer would I add when I do water?

Is the hole above or below the five gallon bucket? Love watching your videos from Australia . Learning so much thank you. Best regards Adam.
What is the coast per bucket with soil, fertilizer, bucket, pipe, cloth ans plants? Thanks
so... the roots of the flowers will stretch all the way down and grab water from the reserve below?
Awesome
Make a barrel one. Something for us females who like it pretty.
Thank you for this great video. I’m excited to try !!
If you work a lot could you do this so you don’t have to water every day?
Thank you Sir.
What does your soil pile consist of?
Does this Container work for Blueberries?
How many tomatoes , peppers do you put per tub
1
In other videos he goes into detail about how many depending on if you are using determinate or indeterminate breeds of tomatoes. 1 - 4 depending. Also on how you are going to train them, caged or spill over etc..
Also will work for disabled people who may not be able to go outside and water often.
Love it!!! Thank you for the info!! Where do you get the 2 red buckets?
They have said from cattle/livestock feeding yards in other videos.
Does Leon have a product store to sell all he teaches on ?, if so what is his website.
In other videos he gives the phone number. They sell all kinds of gardening stuff. Look earlier in the series.
Love it!
where do you buy the large tubs?
Can I was the master blend hydroponic solution for the wicking tub? Thanks
Yes !
Hello Leon, I made the 600th like. Love your gardening show! Where are you located?
He lives in the southern part of Oklahoma. I went to his farm yesterday to get supplies, unfortunately we didn't get to see him. He's home due to a recent car wreck. Let's keep him in our prayers.
Where can I buy these pots? Is there a name to ask for at the garden center or to Google? Thanks
They are cattle protein lick tubs. From ranchers. New they are filled with molasses and protein. Cows on grass lick the tub to get some protein to go with their dry grass in the winter
Thank you
Can I use house rap instead land scape cloth
You didn't mention that you need 4 men and a boy to move that container LOL
This would have been perfect last year when a part of Kentucky was in a drought.
Thanks Mr Leon!!!!!!
🥰
Maybe put mosquito pucks or whatever they are called in that reservoir?
The pucks would work. Alternative. If you can get a really good seal around the rim first. Then a wad of steel wool in the overflow hole to prevent the bugs getting in.
Video has no sound now
I have tried this but the water left in the bottom smell very bad, like a lot of bacteria an virus living in there
add salt and cinnamon powder in it...it helps :)
no sound over here
Need a new camera man
I wish I could have gotten the sound... Your video looks very interesting but there is no audio.
The sound was fine for me.
