    No clips for the gudgeon pins? He failed to clip the piston pins in to position.

    I see that you torque the 1/2 inch nuts in a diagonal crisscross pattern. My 1974 Direct Drive Manual shows a circular pattern. Has Lycoming revised this. I like your improvised torque plates!

    I used to work at a shop called Mattituck Aviation. I was responsible for cylinder overhauls on Continental and Lycoming cylinders.

    Good morning and congratulations on the video, when you saw the installation of the cylinder heads and saw that they did not place the piston bolt locks, check other comments and many of them had the same thing that happened to me and do not ask about this, in more than Fifty years repairing automobile engines I have never seen anything automatic in the installation of piston pins, I will try to get information on this system, thank you very much and greetings from Buenos Aires.

    The OH manual and SI 1029
    says lube the through stud threads, but doesn't specifically mention the deck stud threads. I can't tell what you guys did. Every shop i've called says lube all threads liberally. Lycoming will give you two different answers, depending on who you talk to.

      Yes you’re right, it’s a bit vague. At our shop we have always put oil on all of the cylinder base threads. 👍🏻

      @@akcylinders Interesting ly enough, the 0-360 MM Says to lube all threads with food grade anti-seize. What the hell!

    I note that you only installed torque plates on one side of the engine. Is that because this crankcase uses studs threaded into the other half of the crankcases? A bit misleading as you don't show the wrist pin buttons being installed onto the wrist pins prior to shoving the cylinder down.

    What keeps the piston pins/gudgeon pins from pulling out and damaging the cylinder wall.

      Nothing! The pins have aluminum or bronze plugs on the ends to protect the cylinder wall. But they just float in there 😄

    Great videos! In the process of rebuilding my O-540 cylinder (just 1 cylinder). Had leakage thru the exhaust valve. It appears some carbon was holding the valve up and also the ex. guide is worn. My question is, can you do a video on replacing the guides and reaming to the proper size, etc. Thanks!

    Great vid..I didn't notice piston pin plugs going on?...is it different than my io 320?

      Good eye! We installed Superior Air Parts piston pins, which have pin plugs pressed into the ends rather than the OEM Lycoming pins which use a removable plug on the ends. 👍🏻

      Thank you! We use a mixture of engine oil and lubriplate #105

    Irritating note in the lycoming manuals state to torque 1/2 and 3/8" nuts........the nuts are actually 9/16 and 3/4" I believe. I assume they mean the studs are 1/2 and 3/8"

      It is misleading and annoying but that actually is the correct way to say it. 1/2” nut or 3/8” nut refers to the thread size, not the size socket it uses. Might also see 1/2-20 or 3/8-24 giving the the thread diameter AND thread pitch.
      You are correct on socket sizes though! They use 3/4” and 9/16” socket 👍🏻

    sir is that ok millennium cylinder as replacement alternate to lycoming cylinder? but my engine block is Lycoming...

      Superior cylinders are an FAA approved replacement for Lycoming cylinders 👍🏻 they’ll fit right on to the Lycoming crank case

    I would also add that the torque pattern used is not consistent with Lycoming's documentation. More concerning is that no lubricant appears to be applied to the stud and through bolt threads, nor to the cylinder base plate area. The lack of lubricity will result in inadequate preload being reached during the torquing operation. Lubrication of the fasteners is clearly called out in Lycoming's documentation and has been standard practice for eternity. Please do NOT dry torque these fasteners if you're doing your own cylinder work, you will not achieve the appropriate clamping pressure on the crank bearing, or reach proper fastener preload, which may result in a cylinder departure from the case or a spun crank bearing and subsequent oil starvation.

    Nuts are supposed to be wet torqued. Didn't see you lubing the bolts and nuts.

    Have you lost your mind I don't see any lubricant on the nuts or the studs you should be ashamed of yourself
