    A tip for when buying 3D printed parts for figures is that if the part is really small, make sure the printer used to make it is an SLA printer as opposed to the PLA printer your parts were printed on. PLA are basic printers that heat plastic and form into a shape layer by layer, which are great for making stuff for engineering projects, or big diorama pieces but they suck at fine details. SLA printers flash harden liquid resin with UV lights and are able to maintain much higher precision details with much finer and easier to deal with layer lines. I’ve been using an SLA printer for a few months and it’s great. Honestly, all I need to remove layer lines completely is a bit of fine sand paper and a hit of primer.

      I just bought a female maul commando jet pack and the guy had the same printer, a little disappointing because of how rough it looks but still excited to add to the mandos.

    Great build. For future reference when you're working with 3D printed pieces. There are a couple of methods you can try to smooth out the pieces. The first way is sanding as you were doing, but you also need to work in some type of filler to fill in the gaps. So you would sand down, work in the filler, sand it down and repeat the process till it smooths out. The other method is to use acetone. Basically, you have to place the 3D piece in a sealed container with a ball of cotton that's been soaked in acetone and leave them there for a period of time until you reach the desired smoothness you're looking for. There are several TH-cam guides out there.

    I just picked up the target exclusive yesterday, and yours looks amazing. I told myself that if I wasn’t to get any of these exclusive I would either make own(Jedi, and officers) or pay customs (clones, that white paint is hard to recreate) instead of paying scalper prices. Your vid is a great road map for the obi custom.

      Thanks! I just wish I had had more experience working with 3d printed parts when I was working on this build. Might've turned out a lot nicer. I actually did an update to the build a few weeks ago with a new lower robe I took from Mace Windu, and it looks a lot nicer. You can see it side by side in our newest review of the TCW wave.

    Awesome custom and one of my favorite looks for Obi-wan! I think you just got a bad piece when it comes to the chest armor. Still it came out great overall.

    John walker customs is one of the best guys to get parts and you might want to check out wattos scrapyard and kamino facility too

    A light wet sanding with a scotch bright pad and a few light coats of automotive primer (duplicolor vinyl/fabric) works well for me on 3D printed parts. Though I haven’t tried anything 3D printed on this scale. Well done.

    If you look at pictures of clone wars general kenobi, the black undersuit in the pants area is covered entirely by the jedi robes tunic that he wears, so honestly i have no idea where you could even get something like that unless you cut out some soft goods fabric for a tunic or something. And personally I would’ve used the clone commander Obi Wan head or a head cast with shorter hair like from revenge of the sith just so it looks more accurate to how he looked in the clone wars show, but i really like this custom overall.

    • @gnarkillguch
      @gnarkillguch  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I actually did some tweaking to this one recently. Kept the same head, but found a longer tunic that covers a lot further down. I think I posted a pic of it on our instagram.

    When sanding 3-D printed items.. don’t use a rough sandpaper.. I start with 1500 grit to 2000 grit to 3000 grit using automotive sandpaper and I wet sand.. never dry sand.. take your time and don’t push hard on the print.. let the water and sandpaper do the job for you..

    I love it, but the armor is massively oversized, I think either printing it yourself, or sculpting it yourself, would help a lot. I think that'd what I'll try when I inevitably make my own. ❤

      Yea it is a bit large. It's was mostly just one big experiment and my first time trying 3d printed stuff.

      @@gnarkillguch I think two suns castings has general kenobi and skywalker torsos. It's a cast of the black series bodies, but molded with the armor. I might try it out, but I want to make soft goods figs, rather than full plastic

      @@gnarkillguch Don't get too excited. It's archive, probably the same body. MAYBE a different head. Also, the 501st trooper is in the wave too, probably on the old phase-2 mold.

    those 3d prints werent great they should have been printed at a smaller layer for smaller lines/better detail and the spear should have been much cleaner. when i sell prints i always mail in a box and they are much cleaner than what you were sold, and printed with pla plus which is tougher and lasts longer..
